My Player Ratings based on what performance I expected from individuals: - Pickford - 6.5/10 (Expectation 7/10) Good shot Stopper, poor distribution causing possesion loss & buildup of pressure against Spain. - Walker - 2/10 (Expectation 6/10) Doesn't overlap/underlap or make progressive passes, positionally unaware, lapses of concentration, only has recovery pace. - Stones - 6/10 (Expectation 7/10) Good-Ok defensively, showed his progressive carrying skills once in the final. - Guehi - 8/10 (Expectation 5/10) Defensively great & proactive, probably best English player in the Tournament, needs to improve on winning more aerial duels. - Konsa - 7/10 (Expectation 6/10) Came in for suspended Guehi & performed very good. - Trippier - 3/10 (Expectation 7/10) Has played many a times for England in previous tournaments/friendlies as a LB but still hasn't developed his left foot to cross or even pass. - Shaw - 6.5/10 (Expectation 7/10) Came back in the QF & provided balance to the team but lacked match fitness & faded after 55 minutes in the FInal. - Rice - 5.5/10 (Expectation 8/10) Poor in possesion, lack of progressive passes, lost some crucial challenges that led to goals, struggled until was paired up with Mainoo & had his best game against Switzerland & Slovenia. - Mainoo - 8/10 (Expectation 6/10) Great tempo dictator, progressive passer/dribbler, made the midfield look 100 times better than in the group stages, needs to work on defensive positioning when facing transition/counter. - Trent - 5/10 (Expectation 8.5/10) Struggled defensively as an out and out CM, Underutilised & criminally subbed off for Galagher. - Galagher - 3/10 (Expectation 4.5/10) Ran around tackling people & racked up Yellow cards for no reason. - Saka - 6/10 (Expectation 8.5/10) Was the only attacking threat of Foden-Kane- Saka Trio, had some clutch moments but got shut down in the 2nd half of most games. - Palmer - 8/10 (Expectation 6/10) Great Impact Sub, great attacking threat had an assist in SF & a Goal in the final as a SUB. - Foden - 3/10 (Expectation 8.5/10) Didn't create or score a single goal, unlike for Man City, was a bit better playing centrally but still no end product. (Edit - Missed Bellingham Rating) - Bellingham - 5.5/10 (Expectation 8/10) Held on to the ball too long most of the times & tried to dribble too much, had a couple of Clutch moments but failed to get involved in games & that's not an option for a player playing as a #8 or a #10. - Kane - 2/10 (Expectation 7/10) Drops deep too often, never in postion in the box for crosses, wasn't able to hold up the ball. - Watkins - 7/10 (Expectation 5/10) Scored the winning goal in SF as sub, provided energy in pressing & streched the opposition defences. - Toney - 7/10 (Expectation 5.5/10) made an impact whenever he came on, provide assist in extra time to win against Slovenia after 6 Minutes after comin on as a sub. - Southgate - 3/10 (Expectations 4/10) Slow Subs, but made some game changing subs, didn't take a backup LB, Negative tactics as usual, tried to paly all the big names & crumbled under the pressure of the media to play big names & screwed the balance of the team in the process. Disclaimer - I'm an Arsenal fan but not an England fan & tried to remove all my biases for Arsenal players & rival club palyers for an objective assesment.
