Two things I'd like to bring in. In 2016 Portugal made it through the group stage with three ties, and they continued to do so to win the title. On the one side I think that all the favourites get through (Germany, France, Portugal and Spain). On the other side things are wide open. The closest to a lock is the Dutch but I could see Romania surprising. England should go through but they aren't locks. Austria should come out but don't write off Turkey, their talent up top could get them a lead and then they try to lock it down. Italy are a traditional power but this team isn't that Italy. Going in to this they are the underdogs here, they missed the World Cup, haven't played convincingly with the ball. Switzerland have been dangerous throughout.

I'm Italian and agree with your take. I've witnessed the Italian Renaissance from 1990-2006.
