Euro NCAP

Euro NCAP performs a series of crash and safety tests on car models:
- a frontal impact test, 50% of the width of the car is striking an oncoming deformable barrier, also travelling at 50 km/h
- a frontal impact test, the car impacts a rigid full width barrier
- a side impact test, a mobile deformable barrier impacts the driver's door
- a pole test, the tested car is propelled sideways into a rigid pole and the robustness of the centre airbag is evaluated.
A series of pedestrian tests are conducted with different impactors, adult and child head form, lower and upper leg form and whiplash tests are performed on a sled as well as AEB pedestrian and cyclist tests.
Active safety is tested based on the car’s equipment: autonomous emergency braking car-to-car scenarios, occupant status monitoring (including seatbelt reminders), lane support and speed assistance technologies.

19k starting price isn't really affordable considering that the pre facelift started at ~15k. The Polo we got for ~16k costs about 21k now.

Only in 2021 did they make it more difficult; I add the shock in motion. Also at IIHS they don't do side pole impact. And not all of them get a good score and even re-evaluated models have lost stars.

Ah so that's how the headlight is to be disassembled.. Jokes aside, I knew this already, spent 2h trying to figure this out. Question is, the pre facelift should also have the same rating right?

I'm pretty sure the pre-facelifted version will keep the 2017 rating. New ratings only apply to vehicles with the safety equipment stated in the report, unless otherwise indicated (i.e. models from the same manufacturer having the same safety equipment (like the SEAT Leon and Cupra Formentor) or from a specific VIN (like with the Tesla Model X's 2019 rating) Hope this helps btw

Very very good build quality, only the bumper and headlights gets damaged on a heavy front crash. Nothing happens to the rest of the car.

2:16 it's a fail for cycling right? And this will be same for motorcycle i assume.. Seeing the number of moto crash with fatalities this should be improve urgently with better standards in place.. So much has been done for car to car but not for moto even if it's far greater risk

Why there is no rear impact test? While at same time they test all this electronic systems, which imo aren’t that necessary to have. For me more important would be rear impact test.

It's great that they do this, but with cars getting faster and more comfortable. You would think the test would be at a higher speed? I get that more cars will fail, but safety levels will increase even further

Speed limits aren't changing though, and the majority of cars will be able to auto brake and slow most impacts by a significant amount if not entirely.

I still find it weird that VAG has been cheaping out on AEB features and pay-walling them behind expensive packages or straight out selling them as extras outside packages. You got to appreciate Asian manufacturers on this aspect.

1st time ive ever own a VW CAR .. Volkswagen Polo (5-star safety rating) The Polo isn't just a safe small car, it's one of the safest cars you can buy. Full stop. According to Euro NCAP, it scores a five-star rating, with 94 per cent for adult occupant protection, and 80 per cent for child occupant protection. realy THIS BACK TO VW HAMBURG The Polo Is one of the best small car on British roads by miles !!!!!! You can always override lane assist by pulling the wheel into the force or just by turning off lane assist altogether. I always turn it off.
