Fantastic video guys! First one I've found that takes you through the complete setup from rod to fly(s), maybe I'm biased to Fly Fish Food through KZfaq algorithms, but most I've seen deal with each piece of the puzzle separately, none have put it all together in one easy to understand video. Thanks!

This video is an absolute classic. As I fish euro more and more, I keep coming back to this and get more from it. I guess I wasn’t ready for all the details until I have had some experience. Thank you!

Good effort lads. It has been a while since I have spent time on KZfaq and this is the first time I have seen this production. I've had some experience with the Euro style and I reckon you boys covered the important points really well. Hat's off to you. 👍 . . . and greetings from Oz. 🇦🇺

Modern Nymphing 1 and 2 were game changers, nay life changers for me. This approach has really helped me learn the true fundamentals of Euro nymphing, rather than just flailing with random techniques and fly of the day. When you really understand what you're trying to accomplish, everything starts making sense and falling into place. Catching far more fish than ever before in my life, and having a blast.

Good info guys, but what anglers don't realize is that a good 10' fly rod will accomplish all techniques, dry fly, nymphing, and streamer fishing MUCH better that a 9' foot fly rod. They are easier to fish as they provide much better line control and you can actually land very large fish as they also offer greater flexibility to protect light tippets. What some rod companies don't realize is that having a small fighting butt helps to balance these longer rods, PLUS makes it even easier to beat big fish quicker. Personally I haven't fished a 9' fly rod for trout for over 40 years. The popularity of using a 10' rod has been sparked by the Euro game and with that anglers are becoming aware of the advantages of using the "long" rod. Great channel......

Thanks Cheech and Lance for the great rundown! Do you have a recommendation for a simple solution for when you're nymphing and start to see rising fish and want to switch to a dry fly? Is there a 'happy medium' fly line that is thin diameter for mostly nymphing applications but has some mass to turn over a dry fly when needed?

Another great vid guys, can you do a net setup vid, Olsen has a good vid on this, I have a wooden net that I think is kinda heavy looking to simplify and get a good strong leash like the kind lance was using in his latest streamer vid. Specifically, what nets do you recommend and what keepers for the net…

Started euro nymphing this year with a 10’3weight. Most productive year ever for me. My question is what would you recommend for Great Lakes steelhead? A company makes a 10’ 5weight euro rod. Would that still be to light? Thoughts? Thanks.

Awesome video! Very informative! ..I fish the tailwater of the Navajo reservoir in New Mexico .. I have been euro nymphing for a little over a year and have alot of success with this style ! .. but up in the quality catch and release waters . The fish are alot more picky ..I figured I would be able to catch fish with the small stuff (size 22-28) on my tag fly like I am able to on a indicator rig . But haven't had any luck with that setup . Any tips? Thanks in advance!

Do you typically fish a lighter dropper fly with the heavier “anchor” fly? I am just getting into Euro Nymphing and having great success with a 14 Tungsten euro Jig fly coupled with a 14-16 dropper fly with a brass bead. Is it standard to fish two tungsten type flies? Thanks

Great videos and very helpful. As far as the sighter goes, should it be vertical above the water while fishing or partially in the water?
@FlyFishFood
@FlyFishFood 5 жыл бұрын
Joseph Ault it should be completely out of the water a few inches depending on the depth.
@BillSaltbush
@BillSaltbush 2 жыл бұрын
Above the water (in most cases) - unless you are in deeper than usual water. Vertical or angled will depend upon the flow speed of the water. In slow/slower moving water, the more vertical your line/sighter, in faster flowing water, the more angled it/they should be.

Thanks for the highly informative video. Could you share your opinion of "micro" leaders, leaders whose butt section is as light as 4x. Clearly these leaders are hard to cast, but, as I understand it, most of the high level competitive anglers are using them these days.
@Lanceeganflyfishing
@Lanceeganflyfishing 5 жыл бұрын
Alex Argyros thin leaders like the one you described are great for lessening leader sag and for fishing lighter flies at greater distances. As you mentioned, light leaders are terribly hard to cast with any accuracy. With that in mind I wouldn’t start there, but after you are comfortable handling thicker leader setups try going lighter and lighter.

This is basically what Great Lakes steelheaders have been doing with spinning rods for 30 plus years what I don't get is no one will talk about if this can be used for steelhead sure seems like it's a small trout technique only unless you go back to spinning rods or your bottom bouncing with seven weights

@@FlyFishFood easy to adjust weight, lose less flies, just the split shot slides off or breaks it's weaker line...i'll give it a try in snaggy areas
@FlyFishFood
@FlyFishFood 4 жыл бұрын
unionse7en yeah. Fair enough. It’s just really easy to adjust depth by just lifting your rod. The advantage of using a fly instead of a split shot is that they might be hugging really close to the bottom where only the split shot goes. If it’s a fly it gets eaten.

Great info, but geeeez you have to take a college credit course to learn all the different aspects of fly fishing. 3 different types of line on one setup, thousands of flies ,dozens upon dozens of rods and reels with different lengths and weights, and all this stuff isn't cheap. What if I want to use a dry fly, I need a completely different setup? I'll just stick to my ultra light rod and spin reel with one 6lb line for fishing with lures, bait, and flies.
