The best Swedish rock band.This song was a World wide hit back in 1986. And 1988 with the song superstitous. They took a long break from 1992 and reunited 2004. They are still going strong and has relised many new albums. Fantastic live band. Seen them many times.

Yes this is genius i know, with the special talent this band has, still love it very much. I was a kid when first came out and i felt immediately in love with the lead singer which is super sexy and talented. Thank you for the cool reaction.

D. Mont, some info on this album for you... 'The Final Countdown' by EUROPE was the band's 3rd album. The song on it's own was released, in single form, on February 14, 1986. Both the full album-length version(5 minutes & 9 seconds), and a radio-length version(4 minutes & 0 seconds) came out that day. The album this song was on, was released on May 26, 1986, starting in Sweden, the band's home nation, and spreading out to the rest of the world from there. The video version of this song(seen here) was recorded at an indoor fitness and gym facility called 'Solnahallen' in Solna, Sweden, a northwest suburb of Stockholm, EUROPE's home city. It was recorded over 2 days on May 25 & 26, 1986, of which this video uses footage shot for both concerts AND during the soundchecks before both gigs on those respective dates. The double gymnasium was used for the staging of the concerts. The song did explode on the worldwide music charts, but the band's guitar player, John Norum, was dis-satisfied with the musical direction and visual identity EUROPE took in this era, and so, with him also having major disagreements with the band's management as well, left EUROPE on Oct. 31, 1986, with a guitarist named Kee Marcello chosen to take that spot in the band. EUROPE is still a recording and touring group today, having re-united on Oct. 2, 2003, after the band name had an 11-year hiatus, minus a Dec. 31, 1999 one-off, 2 song New Year's Eve 1999 gig where BOTH John Norum AND Kee Marcello were with the rest of the group onstage, performing 'Rock The Night', and the song you reacted to here, just barely before Midnight, January 1, 2000. Sousaphone in marching band, tuba in everything else. I also played tenor and baritone sax in jazz band (saxophone was actually the first instrument I learned how to play) but it’s been forever since I picked one up.

@@dmont sounds like fun and very impressive. Brass and woodwind! I played trombone in marching band, concert band, jazz band and Dixieland band. It was so much fun and a really great experience that gave me a better appreciation for different types of music. I wouldn’t be able to play a note on a trombone anymore. I wish I would have kept it up.
