MEP Tatjana Ždanoka spoke at a plenary session on the European Union citizenship report.
She noted that back in 2006 she drew the attention of the European Parliament that it was impossible to introduce a single European citizenship as long as there were so many non-citizens living in Latvia and Estonia. "If you think that since then the situation of mass statelessness in these two EU member states has been resolved, you are mistaken. Moreover, a substantial part of those people who changed their 'non-citizen' status to Russian citizenship, as the successor of the USSR, will soon be ordered to leave Latvia," Ždanoka said.
