Although I am from NW Spain (Galicia) for many generations, my Y-DNA Haplogroup is I1a2, very rare in Spain. Probably, the Viking raids between 880 and 1050 and then the Catholic Viking pilgrimages to Santiago de Compostela after 1108 (Sigurd Magnusson - Sigurd I of Norway the Crusader) left male descendants to this day.

How is it R1a - Germanic DNA? It is only 16% of this dna in Germany. R1a1a is Slavic DNA. Indo-Iranian - is incorrect terminology as well. Iranian people do not have this DNA widely spread. You should call it Indo- European DNA not Indo-Iranian.

@yuliac3980 Жыл бұрын
@@papazataklaattiranimam It does bot define nationality per say but it defines that all people with R1a belong to one proto nation. Call them Indo-Aryans if you want to. Tadjik and Uzbek have also a big % of R1a. R1b - western European main DNa group but then it breaks to branches. Big chunk of Slavic ppl have R1a-Z280. Z280 indicates smaller branch. You can call it nationality code but it is not quite correct either.
@zeljkodjuric91
@zeljkodjuric91 Жыл бұрын
Germanic R1a is a different branch. There's no exclusivity of R1a haplogroup to one group of people like Slavic as many central Asians, South Asians and Middle Eastern individuals belong to one of R1a haplogroup branches. You have about 20% of Scandinavians and Scots with that haplogroup as well.
@yuliac3980
@yuliac3980 Жыл бұрын
@@zeljkodjuric91 You do not understand... The oldest skeletons of Bronze Age with R1A are native to central Russia. These are the oldest skeletons that belong to one or a couple archaeological cultures. These are Slavic ancestors just like R1b skeletons from South Siberia are ancestors of West Europeans. Because of this we can trace migrations to West Europe from Siberia looking at DNA and skeletons younger than Bronze age. R1a and R1b have have markers also that can tell how long ago this mutation accrued. R1a migrated from central Russia to India and to Central Asia not all way around. There are no skeletons of Bronze age in Central Asia or India with R1a.

Not Idea. The E is not North African. It was the first haplogroup to leave Africa, it formed in the Nile Valley or the Middle East and populated uninhabited Europe and repopulated Africa. In Europe it mixed with Neanderthals, suffered the ice ages and gave rise to the white race. In Africa (it is absolutely the majority in ALL AFRICA, especially black) it mixed with primitive hominids and gave rise to the black race E is the first European haplogroup.

@@VeiledJam I was quite surprised though because Haplogroup N exists at very low frequency amongst Han Chinese people (about 2%-6%). The vast majority (~80%) of East Asian males including the Han Chinese have Haplogroup O instead with the usual being O1a (Austronesian, Tai-Kadai; from the Liangzhu, Hemudu and Dawenkou Neolithic Cultures in Southern China), O1b (Koreanic, Japonic, Austro-Asiatic, Tai-Kadai) and O2 (Sino-Tibetan, Hmong-Mien; from the Longshan, Daxi Neolithic Cultures in Central China) so I was quite thrown off when my results came back as N1b. Haplogroup N was mainly found in the Hongshan and Xiajiadian Neolithic cultures of Northeastern China in Inner Mongolia / Manchuria, even then it is found at about 2%-6% amongst Koreans, Japanese and Han Chinese, about 10%-15% amongst Mongolians and Manchurians, 30%-40% amongst Turkic speaking people (eg Chuvash, Bashkirs, Tatars, Tuvans etc.), 60% amongst Finns but about 90% amongst certain Turkic and Uralic peoples (eg the Yakuts, Nganasan and Nenets in Siberia)

As interesting and as useful as haplogroups are (identifying population movement etc), I can't help but think people add far too much weight to them, in terms of identifying themselves. "I'm R1a" or I'm "R1b-L21". Sure, you had a male ancestor who had a particular mutation and we've given it a label. Sure, it's fascinating to see that that mutation appears in place x in year y, but to the extent that it represents something to identify with, genetically speaking - it's all slightly odd. It's a bunch of mutations amongst 99.99999% of the rest of your genetic/DNA information - which is exactly the same as everyone else's, generally speaking. Its like identifying a paternal ancestor who had a mutation for growing on average slightly longer nose-hair, which you've therefore inherited, and then announce "I'm from the slightly longer nose hair group". Well great, that's very interesting!

Got your point. But to take my own example. I'm G2a, descendant of the Neolithics from Anatolia that brought agriculture to Europe as well as white skin. You can say this is all insignificant, but it is my "tribal" heritage. All autosomal DNA will change over time, quite rapidly actually, but at least my Y line is what I can be certain about, has been my tribal origin and will be found in my descendants thousands of years from now.

I agree and I want to add that every person has 2 parents, they also have 2 parents each. So for 10 levels there are about 1024 grand...parents. Well, that's wrong due to a pedigree collapse but still there are many ancestors and "your" haplogroup is related only to 10 of them: to your father, his father etc. You can say nothing about the haplogroup of the father of your mother and thousands of other ancestors. Their haplogroups may be absolutely different. Why do we make some parents more important than others? Just because we cannot say anything about the others. I treat haplogroups like scratches on the glass - just some signs allowing us to understand more about ancient migrations.
