Usually release clauses are built into the contract and set pretty high so teams won't snap up young or impactful players. Real Madrid likes to set those clauses really high so the other clubs have to personally negotiate. Release clauses means the clubs don't have to go to the club and negotiate and can just pay the fee and get their player. Transfers are basically the trading system in soccer. Chelsea in the Premier league are the real spenders and its not uncommon for players to be sold for over 100 million dollars
