@@gianlucatapparello7301It's 100% allowed. The caddie is also 100% allowed to help read putts. Some even do the whole aim point thing on certain putts.

@@gianlucatapparello7301 You very much can. Yes caddies can't coach, but you need to look up what tournaments consider coaching before commenting. As long as he doesn't set anything down on the field to visualize the line of play he's technically within rules. Caddies are allowed to assist in reading the green, giving yardages, changing player gear to suit the field, and give players advice. It's really only considered coaching when you directly visualize the line. So it's a fine line to walk between assisting and coaching... But it's not hard to avoid crossing if you are just talking to a player

Fully agree with @migo799, the players face said it all and still followed the caddies dialogue 👌respect and trust in an age old tradition and sport, there are very few sports that have taught me sportsmanship but golf is definitely one of them 💯👍💙

That’s a good golfer and caddie team right there, caddie knew he was going to make a mistake and politely stopped him and apologized the player assured him it was okay calmly, caddie made a club swap suggestion, player listened and made a nice approach shot. Well done, well done gentleman.

That’s what makes a good caddie! Also big ups to trusting his caddie and not getting too arrogant. There’s old videos of even Tiger being told what to do by his caddie. If Tiger can take advice from his caddie every player should.

When it comes to club selection most players listen to their caddie. You have to think about how many decisions players have to make through a round so if they can just grab club and hit club it’s better off more energy to spend on the putt.

I honestly did not know caddies played such a pivotal role. I mean I knew they gave advice. I didn't know they would stop a pro mid-swing to give some advice and NAIL it. I friggin love golf more and more every day

They usually know the course better than the player,they go out bythemslves and get 100s of yardages,possible pin placements etc before the player ever plays the course,they have a very important role

This interaction is emblematic, Matthieu Pavon’s career has taken off since Mark “Woody” Sherwood became his caddy last yr. Won the Spanish Open, his 1st PGA tour tournament, and suddenly showing up on Major leaderboards in 2024, finishing 12th at the Masters, then 5th at the U.S. Open.

yup . . . can verify . . . actually witnessed the interaction - heard everything said between Pennyworth and Wayne . . . it was on the Par 4, 414-yard, 4th hole at the Charity Gotham Pro-Am Invitational . . . the event started late afternoon Saturday so that all the wealthy donors could sleep in after the previous Friday evening's auction-banquet . . . they played the back 9 under lights installed special for the event . . . without the artificial illumination it would've indeed been a very dark night

So im assuming from this that if hed hit the short club he'd achieve the aim of not going long. Long would be a bad result. Problem is he would probably spin back off the green if he hit it full with the shorter club. Hiting the longer club and taking something off it, If you watch he holds the club off after swing using like 70% power and wind knocks it down. Less chance of spinning back after landing. Golfer still has to hit this shot though. Caddy knows his man.

Timing of making a tough decision seemed to be a little late but the results show that it was right on time!!! This is how Golfers and their Caddies should work together and trust each other. Unfortunately, the work and importance of the Professional Caddie is overlooked and not talked about as much as they should be. I really like this video 💪🏼

Looked like he was playing a 8 iron originally and his caddy saw a change in the wind. Got his player to back off, even with an exasperating last call. Gave him a 7 iron and that was still short. A good 3/4, 6 iron probably would have been better, but its a tournament and not playing for a hundred bucks with golf buddies. I agree with previous posters, good caddy, player team.

That's more of a 3/4 7 iron and it's like 12-15' short. When over the green is a bad spot that is exactly where they want to hit it.

That’s a very confident caddy to stop a player in his backswing. And one hell of a partnership for the golfer to listen, make an adjustment, and then pull off a great shot. Us amateurs would have swung anyway, and then bitched about a bad shot and blamed it on the distraction. Even though in most cases that would have nothing to do with why we suck. 😂
