What an awesome video! Would have saved me a lot of purchases had this existed two years ago. I'm surprised at how much I did not like the Pittsburgh ones. MMG has incredible low end, but I much prefer the clarity of the Optomix and Lxd (the latter being my favorite and the only LPG I've kept). That other 2LPG sounds excellent though. Love the switch for tone options.

I need to build an Aperture. Damn that sounds good. That MMG you have there is not as pretty as mine. Someone messed up all your lines and made them straight and unwiggled.

@@kimabrams97 is it that good? I know it doesn't have vactrols...do you think it is different enough from the takaab to justify buying to have both? What do you like about it?
@kimabrams97
@kimabrams97 3 жыл бұрын
@@zechs5079 The thing about vactrols is that they’re kinda like vintage muscle cars. They sound awesome and perform well in their own special way but once you hit the twists they fall short. I love vactrols but when it comes to responding to the subtleties of ADSRs and fast ratcheting response they can’t keep up like the dynamix can. While the Dynamix doesn’t totally nail the truest vactrol sound, they have more than enough “pluck” for me, in fact i can get them even tighter than true vactrols, while being almost as responsive as a good VCA. While I do have three different vactrols LPGs which I adore, when I need good response and subtlety, and something that will say “How high?” when my L-1 VC ADSR says “Jump” I always go for the dynamix. But again, this is all about taste. I just feel like with the Dynamix I can have my cake and eat it too. And yes it is different enough than the Taakab, which I own and love and use frequently but is definitely a different beast all together. The thing I love about the taakab is I can just feed it gates from my clock divider without env shaping it and make super simple patches with it as a way to add different rhythms from the outs of my osc in addition to my Dynamix.

@@kimabrams97 You convinced me to get a dynamix. Just got one off eBay for less than a 100. I was going to grab an LXD but I'm hoping the takaab can fill that role once it gets delivered.

I don't get it - a ratcheting effect (that "thrill" beginning @0:43) appears when you use a low-pass gate? And it dessapears after you toggle a switch @1:06? I always thought I need a special function in sequencer for this, or a clock divider/multiplier, a VC switch etc.

It's ratcheting from the Metropolis.
@JohnSchussler
@JohnSchussler 6 жыл бұрын
The ratcheting is coming from the Metropolis. It changes in character depending on the LPG because of the speed with which the vactrol opens and closes. Faster means the ratcheting is more pronounced, slower means it goes away entirely (because the LPG doesn't have time to fully open and close within the time of the ratchet).

That's a lot of LPGs! I have NLC LPG which I really love, also MN LxD and MengQi DPLPG which are much more basic. But my favorite is RYO Aperture. Just much more versatile. Klang ping input and audio level attenuator add a lot of functionality. Cool to see someone else also has a bit of an obsession with LPGs. I did this demo of NLC LPG if anyone wants to see more of it: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h7KnarqL1KnLhac.html

That 2LPG has got to have the best performance/price ratio. Sounds absolutely great. That said, the Aperture still sounds like the most appealing option to me. Which one do you prefer yourself?

What about the LPG A-101-2 from the father of Eurorack? And maybe a more suitable audio signal would have been better. A Saw with full spectrum together with a bit static noise etc. I don't wanna hear a sequence, but the very subtil changes in sound made bei the LPGs.
