The Circle of Fifths transposition is really what sets the Odds apart. Nice one!

Euclidean is very reminiscent of the Dnipro Dot, which is one of my favourite things, though I think it lacks a CV to modulate density? Odds looks nicely straightforward and compact.

I really want to get Odds, this video definitely sold it to me (good work DivKid) all these featires at 4hp, but I have zero soldering or modular building skills.

Over in my Patreon community we have a series of builders that will build commissioned kits for others. It's a great way of getting DIY products built and to your door. You could look for someone to build the kit for you and then you don't have to worry about soldering.

these are awesome. I was looking at getting a larger sequencer but these two modules together would be both significantly cheaper and more generative.

Good stuff Ben! For my workflow, I had to find sequencers that fit the way my brain works in creating good melodies on modular. After buying many different types of sequencers in modular at great cost, I settled on Erica Synths Black Sequencer and Winter Modular Eloquencer as my overall favorites for melody and percussion beat making. I like these because I can see all tracks at same time, easy to change sequences for each track on the fly and similar workflow to the Elektron synths that I am familiar with before my dive into eurorack world.

I use the Eloquencer a lot and have really gelled with that one too.

Hey Ben! Love this 👌 I would die for a video showing techniques to make your vco’s sound interesting. A few years into modular now I know how to add a filter envelope and some reverb but my sounds are still “plain”. You likely do fun stuff like FM and other clever tricks to make the sounds much more alive and unique. Care to show off a number of techniques in one video? Or is this already shared in your Patreon? I must admit ive found myself reaching for modules like Surface and Rings to give me complete sounds out of the box, but I realize this is just because Im missing the knowledge of how to synthesize a range of sounds from basic vcos and other components myself.

Hi, great content! A while ago I dipped a toe into analog synth by getting a Behringer model D. I’ve enjoyed playing with it immensely, and I’ve been thinking about investing in a modest set of modules to put it into a little rack with and expand the possibilities. But it’s an overwhelming thing to research. Any suggestions?
@DivKid
@DivKid Жыл бұрын
Hi Spencer, there's so much gear out there now that I can see how things are overwhelming. What's your prior experience with the synths and music making? Is there anything from that experience you wish you could do in hardware? Is there a particular FX sound you'd like to use with the Behringer Model D? Or are you running that into other FX (software etc) anyway? Do you feel anything is missing from the Model D in terms of your approach (another LFO or that sort of thing)? I appreciate when you're starting out those questions can be hard to answer. One thing you might like to explore is an alternative sound source. So another oscillator. Something digital would offer a range of different and new tones and you could plug that into the external input on the Behringer and still use it's filter/VCA and envelopes. Alternatively something to make the patterns for you, like the module Odds here. That sequencing the Model D might be a nice thing to get music making happening. I hope that gives you a few things to explore. Feel free to come back and ask questions.

Is ODDS in functionality quite similar to Music Thing's Turing Machine, with added functionality and smaller?

Simpler, but similar ... but its quantized, which is a big difference!

how can you change the root note in odd ?
@DivKid
@DivKid Жыл бұрын
you could add a voltage to the v/oct input to transpose. Which can be fun once you start sequencing that to create longer looping patterns. Or retune the oscillator, which is always the simplest way to change how pitches/patterns are rooted across a system.
@xanuthepirate
@xanuthepirate Жыл бұрын
@@DivKid i thought the v/oct input chanch the tuning in the 5th circle..
@DivKid
@DivKid Жыл бұрын
well remembered (I can't remember every function of every module). Retuning your oscillators or sound sources is the easiest way as I said. However checking this the transpose input has changed (quote from the manual) "V/OCT INPUT. 0-5V Transposes the generated notes within the selected scale. On a regular CV keyboard you only have to use the white keys for transposing, with the exception of the chromatic mode." To hold the scale true you'd need to retune the sound sources, however if you want to play around within the selected scale the transpose input would be the best place to do that. Hope that helps.
