Can someone explain to me exactly how Pog got the yellow at end of 2nd stage, even though times are the same? Was it because he came 4th and Vin was 16th on 1st stage?

And another possible issue: v is in shape already, but does not have the miles in his legs. That’s a bit odd. There’s a chance, w o those long training sessions, that in heat, when v pushes himself hard, he will cramp up. It’s a normal reaction. One needs the miles or risks cramps. V thus sd still not push, not attack, just follow. Don’t exert too much, don’t try too hard. Follow. For now. Get miles in legs, for now. You push, you attack, you cd cramp up your legs, and back, and arms, and chest. Go easy as you can in this race for as long as you can. You don’t have the training miles.

I'm rooting for Pogi but this was an ominous sign. It's crazy how Jonas and Jumbo are continually underestimated, despite being the strongest team by far. Jorgenson can easily fill Kuss's shoes--he's very very good. UAE is falling into Jumbo's same trap again, letting Jonas just stay on Pogi's wheel and Pogi tiring himself out in stage after stage with small attacks until Jonas pounces mercilessly on one or two long climbs in the alps. Jumbo is disciplined, tactical, and plays the long game every time and this does not bode well for UAE.

I have to say I was a bit surprised by MVDP dropping off like he did.

Now Tadej can chill out and follow Jonas; I'm presuming neither Primoz nor Remco are yet ready to "pull a Kuss" on the multiple GC contenders. Is Jonas well enough to attack? We know he's sufficiently healed to keep up on short Cat 3 climbs 😅 but that's not like leading up the monster(s) coming Tuesday on Stage 4.

Ironic, pogacar takes yellow and is in big trouble. He, the best overall cyclist, can’t at tour beat vingegaard. P wheelhouse is shorter steep climbs. V rt there, equal to p forte. In high mtns, long climbs, v beats p routinely. In tt, v beats p routinely. P is the better overall rider. He’s gonna have to get sizable time on gravel stage, where he excels. On gravel, one thinks, both v and Remco are vulnerable. V needs a big chunk on gravel P is so good and so likeable but at tour v has his number. But sad. Look what v can do now, so early in his recovery! Stupendous! I thought v wd not be good till stage 8-10. He’s good now. Wow! As race goes on v will likely only get even better. There’s a q: perhaps covid still in a weakened p, but tiny q The worry for p: we are not even in high mtns. High mtns, x long climbs, at altitude, that has been where v has chewed p up. Likely big time gains coming for v there, if history is our guide. Esp hot days, high mtns…. But we don’t know for sure. Not yet. P lost weight this yr. He’s lighter, to battle v. And, a key for me, only a x few number of people know whether in winter p got smart and did heat training, which he needed. Did he? It’s foundational. We don’t know. After two days: big advantage v. What a splendid rider is v Poor wva today, bad luck again.
