I had 2 picks for the sprinters at this Giro. Merlier was my number one pick and I said Kooij will win 2 stages. Now that Merlier has crashed and is hurting I absolutely expect another stage win from Kooij. I saw him beat Merlier earlier this year and that was made me keep an eye on him. He's going to be a force to be reckoned with in upcoming seasons. VISMA has never been much for sprints but they will be now. They have such a strong team that they can split up their goals between GC and points classification with this lad Kooij. Brilliant bunch sprint!!! 🤘🏻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

@tychoMX
@tychoMX 10 күн бұрын
@@teacherhomieg It's faster to TT on the drops without surging. It's only faster to stand if you can accelerate and "drop" people if you haven't been giving your all for the last 5 minutes. If he could stand and sprint it would imply he wasn't giving his all for the last 3 km and saving something for the finale - but it wasn't the right thing to do here because no one else was there to share the work. He's not a sprinter per se, so probably better for him to wind up things as fast as he can and stay as low and as smooth as possible. After the run-in, probably he would have just stalled if he tried to stand up. He just gave his all... and wasn't enough. Still chapeau.
