The first part of the voting for the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest, presented by Pat Kenny & Michelle Roca in Dublin, Ireland.
One of the most exciting votings in Eurovision history begins rather inauspicuously, with Celine Dion gaining an early lead for Switzerland. No sign yet of what was to come...

@gottagothatsme It's not that millenium that they mean - the city of Dublin celebrated a 1,000 years since its creation in 1988, and so the hosts took care to often remind people of this historic occasion.

Ironically, years later it emerged that Dublin got its years wrong....it was founded much earlier

As stated throughout the show that night, it was the city of Dublin's 1000th birthday that year. The whole show was nicknamed "the Millennium Eurovision" due to the host city's special year.

Awww Sweden's Top 3 are the same as my Top 3 that year, I must have similar taste with Swedes or a Scandinavian trapped in a British body! How wonderful of my country to give Norway 12, but Turkey giving 12 to that fart from UK... Really?

Jack Walker What do you mean, the United Kingdom was very good song which worked well live [apparently the studio version is awful]. It should have won over Switzerland in my opinion (I can’t deny Celine is a good singer but I don’t think the song was all that great...). However, the United Kingdom was only my third favourite in 1988, behind Israel and Denmark.
