I'd been looking forward to this for almost a year. I decided last year that I would dedicate myself to following all things Eurovision, a contest full of love, happiness and great memories.
Little did I know what was in store over the course of the years. From the highs of the Irish national final, the Madrid, Amsterdam pre-parties, the incredible Bambie performance and a winner who I personally think was so deserving and humble and just the sweetest, loveliest person. Then we crash down to the lows of the last three days in Malmo and the disrepute of this contest (and that is not to take away from any artist, but let's face it, Eurovision was a Farce).
In this video I talk through what it was like on the ground, the hypocrisy and double standards at play, and a contest I love ultimately being marred by controversy, social media extremes, and artists, who are ultimately the reason we all tune into this spectacle, being censored while other delegations seemed to get away with murder.
My bittersweet journey through ESC 2024. I hope to whatever higher being there is that this is not the end for our beloved contest. The EBU needs to take a very hard look at itself. What happened last week is unacceptable. And I know I'm not the only content creator that felt that way. You could see the pain and the tears in the press centre when all this was going down. The Arena was hostile, particularly to the Executive Supervisor of the EBU (although ultimately he doesn't have the final say - he reports it).
Enough rambling. Watch the video. Enjot content from those who are able to be more positive than me right now and focus more on the music and the fun sides. I will get there, I just need a break for a week or so, and then I'll do a rundown of the songs and how I felt they all went. Today....I can't do that, sorry.
