This year with france I've discovered something more important than a winner (I hope they are), I've discovered a fantastic singer that I'll follow over the years, not only this eurovision, and this is way more significant than winning.

I think this is definitely a big threat to win, especially if you're considering it against Israel. I happen to love the Israeli entry and would really love to see Israel win - however, considering Israel vs. France, I think two points are really relevant, 1. Live Performance vs. Studio Cut - The hype around Israel is built large around a (breathtakingly awesome) studio cut that from the clips I've seen may not work live. It's a very difficult song to pull of live and the clips I've seen Netta seems a little out of breath by the end with all that energy. Madame Monsieur are trading primarily on a stellar live performance, not studio cuts. 2. Politics both good and bad - I hate even bringing this up but Israel has often underperformed at Eurovision even when they send good stuff, and I think part of this (although certainly not all of it) has to do with the fact that a not-insignificant chunk of the voters in certain countries have political objections to voting for Israel. Not usually enough to keep them out of the final, or even making the top ten in the case of Golden Boy, but I've seen good Israeli entries underperform hard (Mei Feingold) and in a close race for an actual win, you have to think about that. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm cynical. On the flipside, Madame Monsieur has a very universalist political message aimed to tug at the heartstrings of a very current European debate and appeal to the sort of Post WWII European value of coming together that started Eurovision in the first place - that's a powerful formula if you look at what a similar approach did for Jamala two years ago. All told, I think the underpinnings

Absolutely has been my #1 virtually the whole way, and I don't honestly see a scenario where it finishes sub-top 5 (UNLESS the staging is just a complete disaster)....Emilie's commitment and honest emotion in her vocal just comes off in a simple, memorable, emotional, but not pretentious way -- Allez Madame Monsieur!

Madame Monsieur are for me like characters from a Wes Anderson movie (and unfortunately it goes for the melody of their song aswell), Well written, well directed aesthetically pleasing and damn hard to relate to. This is a shame because the lyrics grab me, but the song and the performance itself doesn't.
