It would be great if there were chargers at the gym, shopping malls, hairdressers, physiotherapist, dentists, golfpark, football fields etc. All places where people will be longer than 10 minutes.

In my area Reading, 3 of the gyms have pod point and the one at Pure Gym is Pod point set at 14p per KW - altoough that is the landlord supsidising at as it part of a small retail park, we nearly lost because of local DPD drivers using it over night from 5pm and all weekend all 4 bays taken by them

As has been said before in the comments section what we need are more destination chargers. As I write this I am on holiday in Cornwall, ( travelled from Norfolk). Getting here in my MG4 was a breeze, top up charge when we stopped for lunch (started with 100% from home), only meant to top up to 80% but by the time finished lunch it was near 90% then straight on to Bristol for an overnight stop ( chose a hotel with chargers), following morning left with 100% and arrived at cottage in Cornwall which has an EV charger ( one of the reasons I chose it) and able to charge when needed overnight. On way home though as we are taking a different route ( and staying overnight somewhere different) has required more planning and will involve probably 2/3 stops to rapid charge ( with contemplated only filling to 80%), it would have been easier if where we are staying overnight on the way back ( dictated by some sites we want to see ) had charging facilities ( large National chain of hotels).

It's not just about there being a charger, consideration also has to be given to whether the chargers work reliably. The charger in the local Morrison car park hasn't worked for ages, it has been reported but the company doesn't seem bothered so presumably it was never profitable to them when it was working. Faulty chargers are quite a common complaint.

We need more cheap, affordable overnight slow chargers for apartment streets. I used to live in a flat in Amsterdam and there were about 8-10 surrounding me, so I barely ever rapid charged. Now I live in Hastings, where there’s approx 6 chargers in the entire towns of Hastings and St Leonard’s (all of which are expensive). So my best option currently is to supercharge every so often at Flimwell, a supercharger 30 mins away. The state of it in East Sussex is so behind, but at least there’s something I guess.

Shropshire has very few charging sites and most of them are far too expensive. You can understand why companies install charging stations in large cities, but if the government's plan to make everyone drive an EV is to work then rural areas have to have charging stations too.

Massive shortage of contactless ac chargers in north Cambridgeshire. If you live in the Wisbech area you can go to Kings Lynn (approx 12 miles away) March (approx 10 miles away) or Peterborough (approx 20 miles away). There is CCS or Chademo at Morrisons close to Wisbech, but no good if you have a ZE40 Renault that is neither rapid or CCS. The only redemption is home charging. 22kw rather than 7kw would be good also.

North Wales and Anglesey is a bit of a charging desert too. On Anglesey, I think the fastest is 60kw, but you need to drive up to Holyhead for that. They seem to have one or two 50kw at each small town. This may be ok for some, but there isn't much to do in these towns, if you need an hour or two's charge. I stayed on a Caravan farm site near the middle of the island, so charging my car was a slight pain. So I ended up granny charging from my caravan socket. I just limited the car to draw 8 amps. Left from late afternoon to say 10 or 11 the next day, gave me enough back to do another day's exploring. Pulling the caravan there and back, I was limited to 100 mile range, but found some open Tesla chargers at Flint Mountain, about half way. 30 mins, and we were back on our way.

If you are charging publicly locally to where you live because you don't have a home charger then you have plenty of optionality on where/when you charge, so easier to avoid queueing. But if you're on a road trip or visiting then you may have far less choice - on a 6 hour road trip you will inevitably have to stop and charge around the middle of the day when it's busiest. This is when knowing which chargers are most likely to be busy in advance can really help, a simple tip for this is to look at ZapMap or Electroverse on the same day and same time perhaps a week before you go, or at some other busy time and see which charging locations are busiest, then avoid those. A minor modification of your intended route could really help - eg Cambridge A14 services are always terrible for queueing, but there's a Shell Recharge around the corner off the motorway at Fenstanton that is usually quiet, or there's an open to all Tesla SC in Cambridge further south off the M11, or the expanded Birchanger Green services.

Thank you for your videos. Regularly do Halifax to Fife. Since owning an EV (3yrs) I have not been able to do westside route. Recently used Northbound Tebay (😊) and Larkhall (poor coffee); absolutely perfect ‘bladder distances’ apart. Dare not do trip in reverse because of Tebay limitations (haven’t tried the little link road between sites). Any inside line with your new friends wrt more Southbound chargers? Return trip was on a Sunday; Tesla> (Adderstone) was full, so went back to Belford for lunch (😊). When we later went past Adderstone, it was still 100% full (all Teslas on both occasions). Thanks again for a great show.

In uttoxeter in staffordshire we have really good coverage with plenty of chargers. However, I recently went to Leek in Staffordshire moorlands and could only find 1 charger in Morrisons car park and it was out of order. Not sure what is going on in Leek, but as a market town which relies on visitors which pass through on the way to nearby Peak District, it seems like an odd omission not to have more chargers.

That is totally the way I do things, where possible... avoid the busy times. Also in general it doesn't matter where chargers are near to you if you have home charging, it is those further away and that is a great thing of seeing you visit different parts of the country. Lincolnshire is generally light on charging , although Grantham has a good amount at the A1 services. Number of chargers in Lincoln itself are growing slowly but south of Lincoln is doing well. Head out towards Skegness and it is a different story though.

Lincolnshire is virtually devoid of the things once you get past Lincoln itself going east. Which is a real problem as Skegness and the surrounding areas are popular holiday destinations. Big tip for anyone going to that part of the world this summer, if you need to top up make sure you have done it before you actually reach Lincoln or you will be well and truly in range anxiety mode ( I do this trip quite a lot and sometimes sweat it out, but seriously don't be stupid like me )

Lowestoft has zero chargers south of the river. A single 49p Type-2 in the middle of a marsh nature reserve. Half dozen at 79p in a petrol station. 3/4 that haven’t been working on a retail park at 79p. The gym opposite have a couple at 89p. The McDonald’s going out of town with a big Tesco opposite has about half dozen at a cheaper 63p. It’d be really good when the supermarkets properly get their acts together. On a 22-50KW charge an half hour shop the car would get more than enough charge for regular day to day use. And I bet supermarkets will do better than 63p when the competition heats up. I charge at the McDonald’s on a Sunday morning before heading off to work.

100% agree. If you need to use public charging find your local Tesla open to all and pop over to their once a week and save yourself ££££ + £8.99 for non Tesla drivers per month. As I've said before, I think, it's down to a new mind set and look back at when we had petrol shortage at the pumps and the queue then but in normal times ICE drivers just fill up once a week and spread the load. If central or local government which to help with founding please put the public's money towards EV buses, the new London ones have a claimed range of 400 miles, so that all can have access to regular reliable and cheap transport where ever you are within the British isles as I believe car ownership is a privilege not a given right as both my wife and son cannot have a driving licence due to health reason so rely on public transport when I'm not about. P.S we are lucky to live within TFL's area so not to much of a problem.

Rotherham where I live severely lacks rapid chargers the main reason isn't that there aren't any chargers but because virtually all of them are out of service due to stolen cables. As each charger affected has had cables stolen on multiple occasions the operators are no longer replacing them as the sites are no longer financially viable.

Here on the outskirts of London, the situation is good, but I would probably only need public chargers when driving further afield, so would still need to check the situation out each time (for long journeys). I recently ordered a brand new Megane etech, assuming that getting an Ev would save me money. There are plenty of chargers in Swindon where I live but none of them I would describe as cost effective. Sainsbury’s have ultra fast charging but apparently they take £75 directly from your debit card as a holding deposit and then refund what you don’t spend some days later. Is this the same for all chargers? I’d like to see totem poles with prices on like you do with petrol and diesel. I find the pricing hard to find, but then again I’m new to this.

Who told you that Sainsbury's hold onto your money for days? A few minutes maybe. Using your card to buy petrol direct from the pump will usually incur a £100+ deposit.
