@@fladave99 And, ya know, sitting in a car full of EMF's is not healthy. I asked Google Ai about this and "it" said: Yes, people sitting in an electric vehicle (EV) while it's charging are in an electromagnetic field (EMF). EMFs are created by the movement of charges, which produce electric currents that can exert forces on other electric currents. These forces are called magnetic fields, and when combined with electric fields, they create EMFs. EMFs are present wherever electricity is used or produced, and EVs have complex EMFs with a wide frequency spectrum and specific wave patterns.

@@kathym6603 High-voltage bricks. Outdoors, a gasoline or diesel car, when refueling, is protected with a grid of metal below and above because of lightning strikes (the tall ugly roof with a sign that barely keeps you dry in a storm). For an EV, adding a second earthing /grounding rod to a home or apartment for charging isn't a good idea because the two earthing rods create an electrical potential between them. Grounding circuits prevent you from shock because they provide a path back to the grid's transformer, that isn't thru you and earth. An EV or solar array creates a second source of power, that must be off if a line-worker is repairing the grid. Sophisticated fault detection is possible, but, it isn't as simple as a circuit-breaker or in a typical residence service panel. It gets worse if the EV is in contact with a metal garage door, or the two earthing rods are in contact via overgrown vegetation or reinforcing metal in the concrete driveway because the neutral wire is tied to the grounding circuit at the main service panel. For decades, cities permitted the conversion of garages to living spaces, now we need them for charging, and for fire-code in the case of obtaining fire-insurance - I can think of only one functioning garage on my block.

I'd argue for ditching all emissions mandates, and getting back to an industry of mechanics who do tune-ups on simple engines. That ,and start making synthetic gasoline and synthetic diesel. If they don't start manufacturing synthetic asphalt (bitumen) then EVs, due to the road that they travel on, and airlines will simply lead the demand for crude oil extraction. Then they will have to find a place to dispose of the unused gas and diesel. Even plastics for a computer or phone, or the health care industry depends on crude-oil; conceivably we could shift away from coal and natural gas, but not crude oil.

hilarious tinfoil hat theories about EVs. EVs in scandinavia already prove that the technology is good enough to displace fosil fuel cars for the vaste majority of drivers despite the (constantly fading) limitations, just takes a society to commit to the infrastructure requirements to make EVs not just green and safe, but also economical. And even if the power kept being produced with fosil fuels in a powerplant, it will still be more green then to distribute and burn all that fuel in millions of tiny engines on the road. But ignorant people love to pretend that the cost of the fuel infrastructure and distribution doesnt exist. To judge EVs by some developing nations approach (US/China/etc) using rotten/outdated infrastructure is just silly, those economies/people barely got anything right in the past and therefor cant be the baseline to judge a modern technology. Yes, early adopters always have some losses as the rapid development make a lot of products obsolete in just a few years, but thats obviously temporary and in many cases over too. Plenty of homeowners with solar or first world drivers who have a decent infrastructure with affordable energy already are past the time of paying off the investments with the savings. If your economy cant make an EV economical by now it just means its behind first world standards.

The problem is the laws of thermodynamics prevent internal combustion engines becoming significantly more efficient...maybe the odd 2 or 3% but it will always remain a fact that an ICE can only ever use 20% or so of the energy to move the car...the rest is waste heat. High end performance saloons do tend to depreciate quickly at first as they are usually bought as company cars with Tax advantages, but as second hand private purchase cars they have to be more affordable, and offer high residual value thereafter. Second hand EVs are difficult to sell because of the potential cost of out-of-warranty repairs. So these high end electrics might be tax-efficient at first, but values thereafter are grim. No company wants to throw money away on a fast depreciating asset, even a tax-efficient one. So there is no cost argument. There is no additional user convenience, and there is range anxiety on long journeys. There are reliability problems with new tech; there is no joy in these machines. EVs are just a series of new problems.

One thing governments and EV pushers don't tell you, is all these cars suffer thermal stress in the cold and heat, not extremes but once you go lower or higher then 22C battery degradation accelerates. But don't despair if your climate 22 Celsius all year round, you may well get the advertised range and lifespan of the battery. But where is this place ? it's called Never Never Land.

Here in NZ, Lexus just took $25K off their RZ450e. It's easy to see why: Lexus sold 102 vehicles in NZ, in June 2024, but 660 in June 2023! But June saw NZ's lowest number of new car registrations in a decade, after 6 straight months of decline. Hardly surprising given that Q2 saw NZ officially exit recession, but with a growth rate of only 0.1%. So it's not just EV sales which have dived, but all car sales. And when there's no conventional wisdom yet to emerge about hybrids or EVs, why would you buy a new car now? If you buy an EV, it's obsolete 2 years later, and worth half what you paid - if you're lucky. Meantime, my '69 911S, '82 928S, and '97 Tommy kaira M20b continue to appreciate slowly.

Over 20 years ago when I was a teenager I envisioned future cars using a power cell system. Either battery or a hydrogen equivalent that you’d take to gas station and replace like you do with propane tanks. In prospective, it really didn’t change the system we’ve been using for decades but only slightly, requiring a bit of knowledge and maybe 5 minutes of your time. Now with these EVs we have to worry about range anxiety because it can change with the weather and about every vehicle being 2-3x heavier than its gas rivals. Voltage (charger) outputs and waiting around for 30-40 minutes to “fill up” your car. Honestly they’d be better off making everything a hybrid system and try to perfect that instead.

This happens with all new technology...remember laptops, flat screen TV's, mobile phones? compare the price of these item to 20 years ago including inflation and they have gone down considerably....EV's will go the same way...that is how it works.

On a holiday now on Olympic Peninsula, a gorgeous area NW of seattle, in a friend’s Tesla. Have never really been on a trek in an EV before. This whole weekend has been a complete pain in the ass trying to find places to charge. Slow charges. Lost 27 miles of charge overnight just while parking.

Subsidies are great for politicians to put money in their friends and their own pockets.😎 Otherwise how would politicians become extremely wealthy?

The luxury brands don't seem to realize there is a very limited market for these expensive vehicles and, other than the idle rich and trust fund set, they are selling to high net worth individuals who place a premium on their time and will not spend that time sitting at EV chargers.

The luxury brands know this full well, and only converted to electric vehicles under government order. You are blaming the wrong people.

@@daleviker5884 Because they know the government will bail them out if and when they fail AND they were being subsidized by said governments. But mostly they thought they could replicate the Tesla success at the high end of the market. VW tried the low end and produced more crap cars. We need to end these EV mandates as these vehicles do nothing to improve the climate or environment. Let the car buying market decide.

I remember when VCRs first appeared in the 80s. You could get a top loader for $2k, by the time the 90s hit you could buy a front loader for $100. Maybe EVs are going through the same thing, note: VCRs are no longer around.
