Okay so it's late so maybe I made a mistake but if you are Evander Kane and get paid 5.5M this year and get fined 5000 dollars and you compare it to an average salary for a regular Canadian ( a little less than 70k/year ) that means Kane's fine is the equivalent of about 60 dollars.

No the correct call is a minor penalty here at any level. Slashing major is generally called when there’s an intent to injure and that clearly wasn’t it.

Had to watch this again to see if Kane did it without any reason, because it seemed like a really stupid thing to do. So I noticed Hunt cut him off on his path around the net and Kane almost smashed his face into the pipe. I think Hunt didn't really didn't intend to do that and also I think Kane didn't intend to hit Hunt's hand. Still it would be better rather to use fists instead of the stick next time.

I am the first person to condemn ppl when they use their stick as a weapon, but this is a slashing penalty, nothing more. To actually FINE someone for using their stick like this would give you the impression the NHL takes using your stick as a weapon very seriously, right? Except, in the last two weeks, Tom Wilson got a slap on the wrist 6 game suspension for whipping his stick at Gregor's jaw, and Guhle two hand lumberjacked someone as they were skating by FROM THE BENCH - suspended one game, lost less in salary than Kane lost for this run-of-the-mill slashing penalty. This league is a joke, abusing Kane as PR. 🤡

What a beanbag A slashing penalty is called when the stick infraction occurs during a hockey play. A fine is warranted when the slash is not a stick infraction but actually using the stick as a weapon. See the difference beanbag? Penalty when used illegally while making a hockey play. Fine when used illegally to inflict injury after the play is dead.
