I've been planning to climb Mount Vinson, the tallest mountain in Antarctica, for a few months now. But reaching the Antarctica airplane in Chile is proving to be a challenge comparable to climbing the mountain itself. I get denied boarding and entry into Chile, which puts the entire expedition at risk.

Took me two weeks, several rebooked flights, express packs, and a folder full of documents just to enter Japan to attend a funeral that I ultimately had to attend via FaceTime from airport quarantine. Fun.

she's still so young. i mean, when i turned 30, i thought i'd be old, but i looked around and i still seemed to be a kid. it's like you're still in just the prologue of your life...what do you think will come next? mind blowing. and setbacks are just temporary... i mean usually you're just one person and all told, you can say you did pretty well for yourself despite everything

I had a very interesting direct conversation with a great mountaineer who is making Himalaya peak climbs above 8.000m without oxygene, for 20 years or so. We asked him and his companion which is the most mentally demanding part of their expeditions in Himalaya - climbing oxygene deprived or little sleep or climbing high? He said it is the period until arriving at base camp. All the preparations, bureaucracy, paperwork, monetary issues, organizing, travel arrangements, arguing, package handling and all the last minute changes and broken agreements, threats of cancellation, dropouts and general chaos. As soon as there is no other jobs than just ascending to 8600m with no extra oxygene they are happy as a bird, that's easy. Press on, Eva.

@@beyondthestars4299 Elite mountaneers keep climbing the highest peaks on Earth without supplemental oxygene since a long time (Habeler and Messner reached Mt Everest without supplemental oxygene in 1978). This is a class of its own in mountaneering. Bureaucracy in some countries, on the other hand, can sometimes only be survived by having such a stubborn, dogged determination that is borderline clinical.

This was not about the kind of vaccine you had but about the need to homologate vaccines you took out of Chile for the local Health Minister to consider you vaccinated. It seems it’s not enough to show European yellow vaccination booklet. :(

I’ve been caught in an airline/immigration nightmare with my family as well. It involved an error from Hong Kong Airlines who did not know visa exemption rules for Taiwan. They made us wait, rebook, and even to physically go to the Taiwan consulate in Hong Kong Island. The lady there told us “why are you here? You guys have a visa exemption”. She did oblige and give us a pro forma statement. Back at the airport, after a 24h nightmare, when we finally boarded a (thrice delayed) flight, a staff member ran up and was close to deplaning us. I had to dig up the last of my mental and physical fortitude to deal with him. Upon arriving in Taiwan? The immigration officer reiterated the consulate lady’s words: “why do you have all these extra documents? You didn’t need all that. Welcome to Taiwan”. - so happy you made it! Looking forward to your adventure in Antarctica!

Congrats on finally making it! I also just had 45 hour transit flight from South Sudan, 5 stop layover. it was so painful with mechanical problems and all that..... I also almost couldn't board the plane 2x. so stressful. i'm glad that you made it!! happy we have an extreme traveler community to support each other

Oh, Eva, what an emotional roller coaster. I've travelled the world to some pretty obscure places and never had a problem anything like that. I have had to walk across the tarmac to my plane which they held for me because the transport never showed, but nothing that stressful. Fingers crossed for the next part of your adventure.

Yeah, I can't stand it either. It's a fast way to get from Point A to Point B, but between the check-in, security, waiting time, standing in line, and general hassle, I'm so tired of flying. Now I take the bus or train whenever I can. Plus there's the pollution and Co2 emissions.

I flew twice, it was no stress at all. All we needed was to fill a form and a PCR Test before and after landing. It's all matter of perception I guess and which country you fly to 🙏🏼

My husband and I flew to Chile from our home in Montreal many times before Covid and even then it was always dramatic - there's just something about that trip - but we always made it. 🙃 Sorry you didn't get to see Montreal but I hope you get to come back sometime, it's a lot better than the airport haha!

Oh my gosh, Eva! I got choked up with you on that flight. It was all so tense. I can't believe it was just one thing after the next after the next. I'm so glad you were able to finally make it down there. Definitely puts things in perspective, and makes my mini PCR panic earlier today feel like not such a big deal (test result delays made me think I would have to miss my international flight).

WONDERFUL!!! Every person who has anxiety of travelling solo should see this! This is an example of how people deal with travel setbacks. The situation forces you to push through and you do it with all your power, using all the routes, options, connections and human help that are available to you. You simply have no other choice, other than giving up and feeling defeated and weak. This shows how much we're capable of when the situation calls for it! Sure, it's stressful and it's okay to cry a little. But in the end you do push through! You succeed and you're that much more experienced and stronger for it. You get to do whatever you've planned to do and as a bonus you get to celebrate the determination and resilience that you never knew you had inside you! Wins like this one entitle you to call yourself ballsy, smart, ambitious, strong and all the other stuff that make your self esteem bloom! Eva, you're all that and more! Wishing you a smooth ride from now on!

I feel your pain, been there. I understand all the COVID requirement (not really but...), but why can some countries make it so easy to process and others so hard even wiht less requirements. Don't they want tourist to return? Enjoy your trip, Eva! We'll enjoy watching.

Wow, I was holding my breath through most of this trip. I really envy you this climb and wish you the best of luck. My Dad helped to map Antarctica for the US Army in the 50s and 60s.. Can't wait for your report on the climb.

19:40 had the exact same experience in Orlando coming to Manchester, UK. I had literally less than 15 minutes to board my flight and I barely made it. I really thought that I would get a heart attack after running for my life to make it to the plane. I made it and burst into tears when I got to my seat

Haha...I remembered the time when I reached airport just 18 minutes before my flight after a lot of drama, it was 8 years ago, I literally cried and was shaking as I was just about to miss something important if I couldn't make it, but the airline crew calmed me down, luckily I was the last one to be allowed boarding, it was an adventure in itself, a story to tell.

Omg you've made me re-find my confidence in solo travel... I recently had a trip go so badly wrong that I never made it to my destination, which I'd been pinning all my dreams and energy on. It really knocked my confidence, but watching you persevering has totally changed my mindset from fear to bravery. Thank you!! Late to the party with this video, but it was so good to see 'real' travel, not shiny edited business travel x

This is the first time I felt like I got to see the "Real" you. Don't take it wrong. I am not implying you are fake or phony. When you are at the mercy of the world on its terms and you have a dose of stress mixed in, true character comes out. You experienced what thousands of others experience all day long day after day. Through that, I was able to see that you are truly dedicated to your trek. It is not your working through difficulties that enlighten me to your soul, it is understanding that you are just a small speck on the world and that your experience is not unique. This is what I find interesting.

i love your channel and I am so happy for you that everything has worked out and that humans support each other. However, I also feel increasingly bad for all of us by the unproportionally high environmental impact from everyone going to those remote and environmentally sensitive places. it is not necessary to go to antartica, unless you are a scientist. I am happy that antartica has already restricted tourism at least, as have a couple other places around the world, like italy and hawaii, but even more need to be in place, as well as true eco tourism.

@@jennyrivera5867 when this was happening (She uploaded stories on instagram) she was not the only one with this issues. But this is a personal problem, if you know she “complains a lot” according to you, why return to her videos? save yourself the stress.

Its the complaining, then looking directly at the camera, the complaining again. I stopped half way through. Very attention- seeking behavior. Constant whining kills a travel video. First time viewer here, and last time too.

@@Jazminzesati I want to support her and I like her content but you have to admit she's a bit of a drama queen. And who can forget how she dissed the people in Turkey wondering how people could live in cities in "houses that don't get even sunlight" as she was watching from her high horse of being free and able to travel. There is always an underlying tone of superiority with Eva like she travels to lecture the world about how they are doing it wrong and she's doing it all perfectly... someone said complaining kills a travel video, which is my point.

Found this video such an inspiration. No matter what we must get on with our plans and our lives and adventures. You spurred me on to go abroad and do the things I wanted to do for years regardless.
