I get a lot of messages and comments about my beginners guide to Eve video, so I decided to make a few videos specifically addressing these questions. First up - I spend a few minutes explaining to newbies why aspiring to fly a titan in Eve Online is a bad idea.
Feel Free To ask me more questions and maybe I'll answer them.

Honestly, when I first started eve, I thought "what do I do". I was picked up by a friendly Corp who introduced me to the game. The best kinds of ships used there were typically battle cruisers, with the occasional battleship. I was unaware of the ship tree, and I thought battleships were the best ships in the game. Then, one day, we were attacked. As we operated in null sec, attacks were frequent. This attack, however, was different. At this time I had been playing eve for two weeks, and flew a destroyer. In our mumble server, someone yelled "evacuate the base! We cannot hope to defeat this fleet. Suddenly, strange ship symbols I had never seen before appeared. Dreadnoughts! Someone yelled. Our battleships outnumbered the dreadnoughts, and slowly started to win the fight. Suddenly, a new ship jumped into the system. This ship was different. It was twice the size of our base, and started to launch rockets that dealt massive damage. "Leviathan! We're screwed! It's been a good run guys."

Sorenkair Sandbox or not, Eve Online is all about two things: Fighting and making money. Everything you do in the game is literally centered around these two aspects. That's pretty much it. That and trolling everyone outside of your own alliance.

A smart pilot plays the game. A smarter pilot plays the people. This is why very little done in eve is better done alone. It's dangerous to go alone...take friends.
@theTranscendentOnes

Care to elaborate please? As that doesn't make sense.
@arbitterm
@arbitterm 9 жыл бұрын
What doesn't make sense? Scott is giving the numbers for an individual to train up to and build a titan. But I'm fairly certain there are no solo, independent Titan pilots who got their Titan entirely on their own, especially since they can be quite useless by themselves. You can't just play the game and get it, like farming a rare mount in WoW. You have to play the 'people part' of the game. I don't mean play as in trick, although that's certainly an option in Eve, I just mean every Titan is part of a team and is the result of a team effort. Hence my comment, very little done in eve is better (or easier) when done alone. It's dangerous to go alone...take friends.
@theTranscendentOnes
@theTranscendentOnes 9 жыл бұрын
arbitterm The senseless part from your statement sounds as if someone should manipulate people. Also it implies the 'smarter' ones don't actually play the game itself which isn't true.
@arbitterm
@arbitterm 9 жыл бұрын
emirhasa Well, the people I always see having the most fun in Eve are the pirates and schemers who rob their own corporation and generally take advantage of everyone in the game that they can. So there is something to be said for being a type A manipulative asshole in this game. And I could easily argue the point that it's smarter not to play at all. In fact, one might say it's the only way to "beat" eve at all.
@justins21482
@justins21482 9 жыл бұрын
arbitterm agreed and If that is the case, then I in fact am one of the smart ones. I rage quit that game a LONG time ago...like 4 years ago or something and never looked back. lost my one and only ship back to back in a PVE area and had no money to continue to fly said ship...this basically making my last 6 months of grinding null and void and had to start back at the very VERY bottom. I said fuck that and adios! I can totally understand not have a game that holds your hand but I dont prefer games that utterly punish you for playing. And, on top of all that, I dont have the personality to scheme other players in game. Doesn't seem right or fair, I'd rather stay out of a game that in some ways condones and or praises a toxic community. Can you tell I'm still a little butthurt over the whole thing even after 4+ years :)

Don't worry he is specifically talking to the people who want a titan simply because it is big and powerful without understanding what it actually is. The groups that have these titans always have a healthy fleet to support and protect it. Not like you actually need a ship larger than a cruiser as a solo player. You might be surprised at how successful you can be without even going past the destroyers.
@olstar18
@olstar18 7 жыл бұрын
He's saying a bit more than that. You can't fly them until you are ready and you don't fly them until they are needed and you have proper support to defend it.

So, I'm trying to work out an estimate of the real life price of a titan, factoring in the blueprints etc. (which Scott has said in the video is going to come in at around 100bil isk.) I'm using pounds, last time I played a plex cost around £15, and sold for around 500,000,000 isk. So 1,000,000,000 isk is £30. 100bil divided by 1bil is 100, so the equivalent price in GBP is 30 x 100. A titan is worth £3000 *shiver*

thins you need to learn during the learning curve or someone else told you to do so ( even if you didnt had a clue about why you needed to do so until it happend to you ) -have zkillboard open -dscan every 10 seconds -have your scanner for every ship in the game enabled -watch out for red dots -do not unplug your headphones/earphones ( you can hear a noncloaked ship boom in seconds before it lands ) -NEVER EVER stop dscan -always align to a celestial object in case you get poped, your pod has a high chance of survival if you align and jump just after getting popped. -NEVER EVER GO TO NULLSEC bellow a 2wk old toon (unless you wish to get popd and podded) -NEVER EVER GO TO WH space in a 2wk old toon (unless you wish to get popd and podded) -always, always search the toon on zkillboard -have any wh data base page open and keep track of your active whs -do not fly what you cannot afford at least 5 times. -do not fit what you cannot afford at least 5 times and last but not least.. TRUST NOBODY! Welcome to New Eden, Enjoy your stay.

Well it's not just that, it's the simple fact that it's primarily useful as a strategic weapon for an alliance, you don't 'solo' people in Titans, you join a fleet and follow orders, and most of the time you keep the Titan logged off until its needed.

Carduke... you might make a good case if it wasn't clear that you hadn't played the game for almost 3 years. The AOE doomsday attack was removed in the Dominion release. Now, titans get a doomsday weapon that does something like 2million HP damage to another capital ship (it can only target capital ships), it can fire once every 10 minutes.

It's a lot easier to do now. All you need to do is buy roughly $4000 - $5000 worth of plex and convert it to isk, buy skill injectors and get all the relevant skills for the titan you want should take you about an hour, then buy the titan from a supercap selling keepstar in lowsec, then spend a few days moving the ship's fit to it. All in all time taken should be under a week. Double bonus, then you can get your first pvp experience as soon as you undock when everyone and their dog comes to blow it up!

You're welcome to acquire the ISK for a titan, and then buy a character and setup a POS to manage it from, and an army of alts to run cynos and fuel it. Then you'll probably get into an alliance based on owning a titan. Then you can PVP in your $4000 ship with your $1000 and hope that you don't lose it all because you confused 'Bridge' and 'Jump' because you're a week old player pretending to be a PVP veteran. You should go and read the fable of the 'Honor Tank'.

I think the fact that you cited those points prove my case - 'Newbies should forget about flying titans until they've played for at least a year' The only things that titans are used for is Bridging fleets and killing things in PVP. They have almost no utility outside of sov level PVP, if you are not active in sov wars then you should not be aspiring to fly these.
@Xavier-vp6mz
@Xavier-vp6mz 10 ай бұрын
Okay, that makes sense. Bridging fleets is key to strategic planning. What is the purpose of the entrances on the ships? There's one on the top and bottom of the avatar titan. Before the update, it was at the very front. It's difficult to miss. Titans have a fleet hanger, ship maintenance hanger are they for that purpose? For logistics. I've just never been able to figure it out.

I'm pretty sure with all +5 implants and an optimal attribute remap you can sit in a Titan in 4 months. Theoretically, you could train hauler type ships and work up to a couple trillion during that time. So now you've got Racial Titan I trained. Now you need to train Capital module skills - and all their prerequisites. That's a couple weeks at least. If you want the doomsday, you need Science V which is a couple more days of training. Jump Portal Generator. More training. Clone Vat = More training. After that, you've got a functional Titan. A lot of the prerequisites ARE core skills. You'd have a lot of EHP. But open fire on another Titan and you'll lose. Why? Because all Titans get a 100% Dmg Bonus per Racial Titan level. A.K.A? Experienced Titan pilots do 5x the amount of damage you do. If you have 5,000 DPS you can expect them to do 30,000. They also have 30% more EHP than you. Better tank and DPS. Your fleet can't save you either, because their fleet gets the same bonus to EHP. And guess what? Every time you lose that Titan you lose all that isk, and all your implants, adding up to quite a couple billions. Then there's modules. I'm sorry - flying a Titan is not the first thing you want to do in EvE. Join an Alliance and do small gang and small fleet PvP. Make a 2nd character to train freighters with. If your alliance can facilitate a Titan, that freighter alt is a good base, send it some isk (unless you make money on it) and plug in some implants and start buying skill books. You'll also need to plan out remap points and such in EvEmon. With +5 implants and remap points Mastery V of a Titan takes 2 1/2 years, but even then true mastery is a long time off.

Just don't worry about flying a titan and eventually it will happen. Keep saving up, dont lose too many expensive ships and the wealth starts to come really easily. I started playing in 2008 and was pitifully poor for my first 2 years or so, but now I bought an Erebus a few months ago without making a big moneymaking push whatsoever. Supercarrier is even more attainable (and more useful in the current meta); you can definitely get into one of those relatively quickly even if you dont put too much effort into attaining isk.

The Titan is ment to be a giant support ship for capitals and super captials, but also a way for sub-caps like battleships to quickly move around from 1 region to a other without slowboating all the way. One of the few ways to kill a Slowcat fleet (a lot of carrier reping each other making them almost impossible to kill) is to drop 100 titans and doomsday each and everyone off the field in many big bursts.

My tip is, if u wanna fly a titan, forget it. start pvp in cheap ships like frigates and as you get better and learn the game, step up to cruisers and battlecruisers and eventually battleships. at this point you are probably gonna be in a corp and you will fly whatever they need you to fly. best tip to get into flying capital ships is pvp alot, join pvp corps start in lowsec, move to null and pvp etc. if u dont want to pvp then totally forget capital ships as you cant fly em in highsec and pvpability is a must in null :)

I played eve a long time ago. Is it a good game for 2-3 hours per evening after work? In the past I didn´t got really deep into it, because I was not able to find good mates. And alone its kinda boring. I farmed a drake and wanted to get "raven" (don´t know the name) and paid a while to be able to get one. But I guess I did many things wrong so I got a few drawbacks. Maybe I will give it another shot someday. And hopefully I find a nice group.

K. Ty. It just seems like everyone (in local/rookie chat at least) only see Titans as doomsday device ships and nothing else matters for them. How much structure hp, base armor hp, and base shield hp do they have? Does it vary between the different race Titans or do they all have similar hp?

+darkmoonwarrior2 just apply what he said in the video on building the Nyx , but on lower scale abit compared to titan, but still u need a lot of skills to fly in Nyx and it will take u about 4 to 5 months of training to just sit in it and to use it effectively in combat u would need 1 full year to maximize the nyx skills and abilities . if u still got more questions regarding the Nyx pm WhiteMoon2 in eve or just mail me and i will give u full idea about u are about to go throw to build it .

Dude I would just focus on two things: 1. Have fun 2. Make money Bonus points if you find it very fun to do things that make money. If you want to grind a lot of money in a fairly standard and consistent way, I highly recommend bee-lining for an Incursion pilot. Then, when you're space rich, just buy yourself the supercarrier pilot from the character market with in game money. While you're doing this, I'd recommend associating yourself with a large nullsec player alliance so you actually have a playground to use the damn thing. There's no such thing as a solo supercarrier pilot :) GL HF

I know this is an old video but if not titans you should really look for a dreadnought since it is less of a target and you can use it as a solo player way more than a titan. you could rat/ maybe even go solo roaming, and its a ton cheaper if you have the means of making the isk to use it and loose it

I worked up a pilot w/ max skills in a machariel... a few notes: 1. Takes a lot of time and effort 2. Actually achievable goal for a solo pilot 3. Just as rewarding as a titan, except you can fly around and blow all kinds of crap up with waaaaay more flexibility 4. WHEN (not if) it dies, you can replace it fairly easy

Honestly, the easiest way to sum it up would be to say that a titan is a strategic superweapon that can only be afforded, built, maintained, and utilized by a strategic superpower. After all, what good would an aircraft supercarrier do for a single person in today's world, even if you could somehow afford one? Only the most powerful nations in the world have any capability to use them in any meaningful way.

I'm new to EVE online (on the 14 day trial thing). Everyone tells me that the Titan ships are just completely useless now. That doesn't change the fact that I would still love to have one someday. lol. As a new player, my goal is simply a Drake since I'm a Caldari. I just have a question about Titans. Can Titan ships have other weapons besides the "doomsday" device like rail guns, missle launchers, etc.?
@xulioray8200
@xulioray8200 10 жыл бұрын
Carriers can be devastating against smaller targets and dreadnoughts are devastating against POS towers etc. Titans give a defensive option by creating a specialized ship to eliminate these threats. on top of that. the Titans are effectively Mobile Stargates and can move massive numbers into combat very quickly.

@hfhfhfhfhize
@hfhfhfhfhize 9 жыл бұрын
lolmanbob123 Normal carriers and dreadnoughts are actually quite useful if you are in a low/null sec corp/alliance. A carrier can be used in combat as a very effective logistics (medic) ship or it can be used to move a lot of smaller ships and equipment around in its cargo holds. Dreadnoughts are used to destroy capital ships and structures. They can also be used somewhat effectively against battleships but it is not common because their weapons have a hard time dealing damage to small or fast moving targets.

it's an alt, all titans in major alliances are self owned and are self cynoed for late night drunken shenanigans. also you can't target a pos in consolation sov system so 4:28-4:48 is wrong, they can try and steal it if they have the password, or hope it bounces out(more common then you might think)

Stealth bomber is really situational. Best used in groups in roams or support during fleet battles.
@roberthaskell85
@roberthaskell85 10 жыл бұрын
"and taking their goods". It sounds like a very cool idea, but like most things in Eve, what sounds cool, often times doesnt turn out that way. You want to raid a mining barge, blowing it up with your SB and then taking his.......ore? The amount of ore you will be able to steal wont cover the cost of your bomber if you lose it. and you WILL lose it, its just a matter of time. As someone stated, the bomber is best used in groups. If you want to mine then the Hulk is your ship. The one piece of advice I will give you, is when you decide want you want to do and fly, make sure you train your skills accordingly and stick to it. Keep your skills focused for what you want to do. You will be much more effective that way than having them all spread out at level 2 and 3 instead of more focused level 4 and 5. Good luck! fly safe.

Robert Haskell Forget the ore, take the modules that are fitter to the barge, and salvage the wreck if it's and Exhumer. T2 Strip miners are quite small and valuable, and you used to find Deadspace shield boosters on Exhumers, those were nice.
@Durangedkitten
@Durangedkitten 8 жыл бұрын
+thenoobfactor A stealth bomber can easily destroy the non tanky exhumers in 3 hits. You can kill and loot a miner for their modules in like 20 seconds from when you de cloak. The main thing is you need to make sure it isnt a trap. Because lots of people use mining ships as bait.

"i want to fly a titan" -no you dont, you just think you wanna fly it. 1st of all, you need to do it on an alt since a supercap is a "prison" since the character never leaves it. It takes well over a year to have the skills to fly it properly, and you wont be able to afford it like ever on your own, flying it also require alot of support and other supers. your best bet is becoming a long time member and trusted in a large alliance and maybe you get to fly one in the future, but be warned, its the worst kinda ship to fly in the game: you cant use jumpgates, fly in highsec or dock it at stations. 99% of the time your pilot just sit in it floating around in a pos bubble.
