Eve Room on Amazon: geni.us/HBvLJOk
The Eve Room is an expensive sensor for HomeKit, but it has some great features, accuracy, and attention to detail. This latest update adds Thread support which helps improve reliability, speed, and share sensor data with less energy. But this new version still has some downsides, particularly in set up. Let me explain...

I use an Eve sensor to monitor the temperature in my air conditioned garage when I run my pottery kiln. It is set to play Disco Inferno on all Homepods if the garage temp goes above 97 degrees regardless of time of day. Works fantastic for safety. Well worth the money.

👌🏼Excellent overview Eric! Eve Room is an excellent premium indoor air quality monitor and temp/humidity sensor. Now it’s even better with Thread! Keep up the great work.

I picked up two of these to monitor different areas of the house. In my office, which is a separate building in the backyard, there’s a very efficient HVAC system. Unfortunately it is not a smart system and it measures the air temp right next to itself, meaning that it is more likely to believe all of the air has adjusted to the ideal level. With this Room monitor and an IR blaster, I can check the temp before heading in to the office each morning and have been playing with some automation (which is trickier with an IR blaster). My other sensor is battling it out with my Ecobee remote sensor in the master bedroom. They both share temp and humidity and are almost never off from one another. The original purpose was to monitor air quality to control a nearby purifier, but the purifier is so good the Eve Room sensor always shows perfect air.

Good to know my Eve room will survive AND tell me the temperature while I’m currently freezing or burning to death in my house, thanks Eve!! 👍 Just joshing Eric, great video as usual, keep up the good work!

Hopefully they make a Room+ that adds PM and CO2 monitors. I wanted to get this for the thread and HomeKit support, but my wife wanted more sensors. We ended up getting a sensor without any smart home features.

Yeah that would be a great product! CO2 is part of why I added plants to my enclosed basement office/studio. Sorry you had to go with something that doesn't talk to your smart home but I get it.

Great video! But come on, Celsius makes far more logical sense than Fahrenheit lol
@EricWelander
@EricWelander 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I think a larger spread of numbers is easier to understand for humans. 'It's in the 60s' is far more clear of what it feels like than 'it's around 18.3'.
@morells09
@morells09 2 жыл бұрын
@@EricWelander that’s fair, but also like why is 32 your version of 0? In Celsius it’s pretty easy for people to understand that below 0 = frozen, 0-100 is normal, 100+ = vapour. Meanwhile in Fahrenheit 32 = 0, 100 just means really hot, 70 = nice, and vapour is god knows what.
@pct87
@pct87 2 жыл бұрын
Celsius is far better for science and other things apart from every day living. Everyday practical life however is better with Fahrenheit. A wider range of numbers (that most ppl experience every day) is inherently easier to understand. With that said, other metric measurements is far better then what we use in America.

@@EricWelander You are WRONG. Freezing point is 0 degrees and boiling point is 100 degrees. So easy to understand. That's why the overwhelming majority of the world uses it. America is so backwards, get with the times...

Thanks for this review, Eric. I am new here on your channel, and also new with Eve products. That's why I ask a theoretical question: can I program a scene where this thermometer can open the Eve Thermo radiator valve (with thread) if the temperature accidentally drops below its setpoint? Or, shut the blinds also connected to HomeKit (that's a future step). Tnx in advance.

Thanks for the video i just ordered the Eve Room and i was wondering if all air purifiers will work with a smart plug ? i was thinking of getting the Medify MA-14 Air Purifier but sometimes the on and off switch will not trigger if connected to a smart plug ? Thank you
@richardgarno6591

I bought two of these but ended up returning them. I set up scenes to turn on air purifiers if air quality dropped below a certain point, and back off when air quality rose to an acceptable level. Nothing ever happened, even after I lit and blew out a match next to the Eve Room and watched the air quality plummet. I spent a lot of time exchanging emails with Eve tech support, which confirmed I was doing things correctly. Tech support was never able to explain why their devices didn't work as advertised. They only replied that everything worked in their lab environment. I wish they worked as advertised.

So if I dont have any Thread device yet I need to rely on Bluetooth. To what device does it connect then via BT? To the homepod, or my phone?
@EricWelander
@EricWelander 2 жыл бұрын
Good question! It will talk to either one on Bluetooth, but more likely the HomePod or HomePod mini or Apple TV that is acting as your HomeKit hub. The same is true if you have a HomePod mini or the latest generation Apple TV 4K as that can act as a Thread border router. I made a video last year that goes into what Thread is and the different roles. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ibV1kpR5nNWyd4E.html

Do you know if there's any limit on how many Eve Room's you can setup? I have some other temperature/humidity sensors which are not HomeKit, but which can be monitored via the companies app via bluetooth. The interface isn't great in several ways, but the sensors cost more like $10 each. But there is a limit on how many of them can be tied to a single iOS device.
@EricWelander

Question about smart plugs. I have an air purifier, however it has no physical buttons. So if I unplug it, it turns off. I’m assuming if the smart plug turns off, the air purifier will turn off as well, as if I just unplugged it regularly? Or is there something special about the smart plug that will turn it on and off?
@EricWelander
@EricWelander 2 жыл бұрын
A smart plug simply turns power on and off for whatever is plugged into it. So yes if you can plug your air purifier into an outlet and it just starts running, then it will work with a smart plug.

I’d rather have cheaper, display-less sensors with longer battery life (or choice of no display) but I think the presentation of eve’s display is the biggest weakness along with the price and lack of different pollutant sensors. The small, square display and resulting smaller text looks harder to read than Aqara’s larger, wider display with pixel-font that matches better with a low e-ink resolution. Eve’s used a more traditional curvy typeface that doesn’t work so well without anti-aliasing, especially at smaller sizes. Both companies could’ve done a better job of making a modern looking bezel-less, all-display design.

so this is stuff that can do same thing than manual/mechanic things just for sake of controling it with wifi and having history of results ... ow and you need to charge it up? wow ... I hope they will make automatic toailet paper or spoon or maybe entire automatic me for me just to lay down and do nothing ... It is miningless product as it just add wifi and history/app for mobile control ... what the heck? if it would be something like p1.0 p2,5 plus maybe another 2 or 3 indications or even CO2 ... then yeah ... if it would be good in showing real levels of those not as in chinese cheap bad products. so naah this is just termometer with some other things ... something that smarfone should be doing if you ask me (instead of being use for companies to track your moves or shopping habits etc) who need this thing... producers should focus of delivering top quality products that are needed rather than producing those toys like products sorry

Sounds like an absolute BS product to me. To get it to calibrate, I need to take a day off, so I can put it out for 30 mins after half a day of sitting inside and then protect it from the cockatoos. Eve should be paying me for all this work.
