I sell retail products online. I've tried out a few background removal apps. I have one to recommend: PhotoRoom. At this time, the icon is the letter R, on a purple background. I save my files as png (called transparent background) because it offers the widest options for further editing. You can always rerun the edited photo into a jpg, if needed, in the future.

A good tri pod is a music microphone stand. Guitar center has an attachment that holds your phone.

Great ideas! I take photos/video of myself for fit, or me with my family using my smartphone on a tripod with a little Bluetooth remote control to snap the photos/video. You can buy them online inexpensively. My phone holder and tripod with remote was under $30 USD.

The screenshot trick is a great one that I wish I had known when I was filming my recipes. I was stupidly doing double work: filming the process for KZfaq and taking out the camera from the tripod to take pictures for my blog! Evelyn, you are so helpful with everything. Thanks to you my life is never going to get boring: I have so many sewing and refashioning projects to work on now!

This is so helpful. Thank you. I, too, have a Samsung phone and I never thought of making a video and taking a screenshot. Duh!!! 😜😜 It makes perfect sense. I was always depending on my fiancé for help with pictures or video. I love him, but he's really bad at taking them and wasn't always available. Now I don't have to take him away from something or, if I'm working late at night and he's asleep, wait until we're both awake.

I've been using my camera as my best fitting tool for several years now, but I just take still shots with the timer, screen grabs aren't as easy to me. I tend to sew late at night so I use the vanity in one bathroom, which does have lights over the sink, but they don't create shadows for shirts and jackets. I place the phone on a stack of towels leaned up against the mirror - works great. I do use another spot for trouser shots during the day, but if I'm desperate for a late night shot on trousers, I take a tall table lamp (26" to 30") and remove the shade and position it on the floor. Works just fine. When posting pics online for advice, I've never found a side back or side front shot useful. Many people take a side front shot because it makes you look thinner, but it distorts the ability to judge the balance of the garment, at least to my eye. I also have a dropped shoulder, twisted elbows, and a dowagers hump, so I find it necessary to take a straight front shot, straight back shot and shots of both sides - not just one. This is especially needed when fitting a jacket. The problems I have are quite common in those of us over 60, but dropped shoulder/high hip is now common among young people that spend an incredible amount of time in front of a computer. Most of all - thank you for posting this video! Mirror selfies are almost always impossible to judge what's happening with the fit of a garment.

My (Samsung) phone allows me to make video screen grabs without having to swipe or use the physical side buttons or anything. There's a small button on the left bottom hand screen while playing it with the photo roll still open at the bottom of the screen. It looks like a play button with corners around it. This eliminates the chances of having the screenshot menu that opens up being in the next screenshot and makes timing it even easier 😊

You can sandwich a tablet computer between piles of heavy books,as long as it doesnt cover the lense area. Holds it nice and secure. If you go all stiff in front of a camera try doing a little dance for a minute to loosen off. My dressing gown video has some of my self selfies,mixed quality.

I have so been looking forward to this you tube video. I’m actually working on a new method to sew pants called the top down center out method. It’s a little better with 2 mirrors but this method is fantastic. I’m on vacation right now so it will be challenging to find something to use as tripod but I will. Definitely one I will review , practice,& save.

Thank you so much! 🍀 With my Sony the screenshot worked very well. I will try to take a video with some books and in Germany photographers call it "beanbag". A wobbly little bag you can put your camera on when the underground is too rough or something like that. Sorry für my english. I'm from Germany and I like your videos sooo much! 🍀

Definitely helpful, thank you. My biggest problem with mirror selfies is that arm I've got out holding the phone up knocks everything out of symmetry!! Then I can't tell if the garment is uneven, if I am uneven (definitely a possibility given shoulder and vertebral injuries) or if it's just that I've got one arm up... I sent a few mirror selfies to my friend when I was trying to customize my princess seam bodice block and eventually we went with a video call where she told me where I needed to stick pins in things sand what to let in, what to let out...

I realise that I'm late to the party but if you struggle with taking screenshots of your video for stills, you can use the camera delay function. Just set up as if you were taking a regular picture (not video) with the back camera, usually at the top of the camera screen there will be icons for zoom, flash, etc. One usually looks like a clock face. Select that and you'll see you can choose 3, 5,10,15, etc. That's the delay, in seconds, that you will get between the time you press the shutter button to the time the camera takes the pic. So choose however long you think you need to get in place (10 seconds is usually plenty) and you're set! The delay also comes handy when you want to take group pics and still be in the photo too! If you count down everyone can say cheese at the same time! 😂

I want to start sewing more fitted garments but I don't have a dress form, and trying to set my phone up on something is just so tedious for me I haven't taken fitting as seriously as I'd like to. Like - very helpful. The screw slot on the camera mount is usual a coin size - no driver needed. Also noticed 2 comments that may need to be edited out a 58 minutes and 1 hour back from this point

Brilliant video, so much useful information. I do already photo and video myself during my makes and it really helps a lot. I don't always use a tripod and have found that my tailors ham makes a very good rest for the camera when all else fails.
