So yes absolutely.....In England, im 2970s huge majority of people had outside toilets in their garden.....and in winter, in absolute freezing conditions, with ankle deep snow, people had to walk 10-20 yards to a freezing wooden shed ( full of dead frozen spiders), That did not stop the British spending billions of £££ on weopens and their army.

That is exactly the issue with using a driver's licence that it provides all the information of an individual. Also theft of a driver's license and identity theft is a huge problem worldwide. With biometric authentication you can get a scenario where a verifier can validate someone's identity without knowing anything about the person, through usage of biometrics. For example, a cop could run an identity verification routine where you just apply your thumbprint and the system validates your identity without letting the cop know your details. This is a well known problem in the identity space called leakage of personally identifiable information.

hahaha SS is just a number, the SS card is literally a piece of paper that no one accepts because it has no security features, QR codes, cannot even scan it. I dont think I've been able to use my SS for anything ever anywhere. Its hilarous when I try to open a bank account or anything in US and you need to prove your ID, sometimes even after submitting drivers license and passport they'll ask for lease or electricity bill or something. Its all so backwards. There's a paranoid fear of centralized govt data even though the US has the most massive insane security state on Earth. Yet you cannot even give citizens proper ways to prove their ID so you have this insane bureaucracy instead

No, it not the same. Firstly, the SSN, as the name suggests, is a Social Security Number. It was only meant to be used with the SSA (Social Security Adminstration), and it has basically no enforcement/security built around it other than "please don't share this with others". What most people (even in India) don't realize is that the Aadhaar card is completely useless and can just be printed from a website. It's the combination of the Aadhaar number _and_ the fingerprint/iris/etc. that is the core of the technology.

But SSN is used for identification purposes in USA when it comes to credit score checks, provision of any benefits schemes etc.. which is what Aadhar card does. Yes getting biometrics of 1.2 billion people in a single database is not an easy tasks. The benefits of which are multifold.

That's because while there are nice technologies like this (which were initially started outside of government), the government itself is horrible with everything it does, including websites. They have the same useless 70-year-old person working in their offices to do their UI design, and that's why the websites are as shitty as they are. The government isn't willing to accept the fact that they're bad at something, and that they need to hire people (and pay them actual, non-insulting amounts of money) to get the job done right.

That's precisely because there's a lot of ignoramuses in India who don't understand the technology, including in the government and the courts, and when someone rose a stink about it being "hacked" or "privacy-degrading", the Supreme Court quickly gave an order that companies cannot use the Aadhaar API to verify people, and that they'll need to take a photo of the Aadhaar card (🤦🏻‍♂) and submit that to be verified.
