Neither am I, I'm just basing the idea on matter & anti-matter neutralising each other (though in their case, with some powerful releases of energy upon obliteration of each other), I could be talking absolute bollocks though cos I have no knowledge of things like anti-photons, it just sounds cool... :D

Or if they make one with the backing the same size as the emitter element, so you can seamlessly array them. Replace the backing element with one that has built in fins or some form of heat sink mountings, and make all electrical connections on the back. Mounting would also be done from the edges or the back side. (None of those edge tracks as they are doing with them now.) Then the size would be limited by how many in the array you could drive. This would also allow you to make different shapes depending on how you tile them.

A fully charged lead acid battery will be ~12.6V at rest (which Clive got up to in the video, see 13:39). Just off the charger it'd be a bit higher, but should drop down fast to 12.6 as soon as you start to draw any significant current. Now, 14.4 from a running car w/ proper charging, using decently thick leads, might be into smoke signalling territory tho :-)

I would be interested to see what the current draw is if the weedy thin cables are replaced with big chunky ones - presumably it would then just be limited by the (thin?) tracks on the PCB. I'd also like to see what happens if it's suitably heat-sinked and run at 14.7v (i.e. 12v bulk charge voltage) for a while - does it pull 200W? Does it explode in a huge ball of plasma? Finally, say I do want to plug it into a battery - what's the best (cheapest/safest) way of limiting the current to something sensible?

Sir, firstly, please share the product details and where it is available (in which site - amazon/ebay etc.). Secondly, is it possible and worth using this in commercial projects, especially industrial projects, from height ranging from 8 meters and above to achieve atleast 350 - 400 lux ? Also, let me know if possible what could be the life of these types of Big COBs on a 24 hour operational conditions ( yes, we will take into account proper current and voltage rating as per the specs provided and mounted on a Heat Sink calculated as per wattage). I appreciate your knowledge in this area and request your guidance and suggestion on this product and similar ones, reply will help us a lot. Thanks

You were insinuating that these may be factory rejects, that is, somewhere else you can buy these with all beautifully matched LEDs at a much higher price, and you can run those at or near the 200W. But running LEDs well below their maximum design power is well worth it in terms of Lumen/W so surely, buying one of these could actually make economical sense, given the low £/LED.

Clive ... interesting video . Perhaps it would be possible to access the individual sections and use a current regulator on each one . This would be a practical way to avoid the high cost of a prime quality unit . Also , would a polarizing filter on the lens help with the glare ? Edit : I see that smaller strip style units are available , perhaps these would be better for current regulator assemblies ... provided that the mismatch of the leds on each panel is not too great .

Actually a common "12V" lead-acid car battery is slightly less than 14V without load, when in good shape and fully charged. If you pull 200W from it, the voltage will quickly drop, and the actual wattage through that cob connected to car battery will probably fall well below 100W within a few seconds as it needed 12.61V to pull 5.06 amps.

+bigclivedotcom the standard power supply sounds like it is optimised for cheapness of construction rather than electrical effiency. Is it worth chasing those saved Watts ? I watch an American chap called "Greengenes garden" who makes these things. He had the YT channel shut down a while back but it is back up now.

Hi Clive. I have a question that I should realy know the answer to. I wish to make a PCB for an IR Torch, it will have 100 X IR LED's aranged in rows of 10. It will run off a 5V power bank The kind you get to charge a phone. The spec's of each IR LED are, Forward Voltage 1.3v, Forwards Current 50ma. The problem I am having in my brain is, what is the best way given the above details of aranging the LED's on the PCB? PARALELL or SERIES? Many thanks pal.

Two or three LEDs in series with a resistor, and then lots of those sets in parallel.

You answered many questions nobody asked, but- why did the photo you used for the reflectivity demonstration look like you'd photographed a circuit board through bubble wrap?

Exactly how would one mount this to a heatsink? All the mounting holes are on one side...
@bigclivedotcom
@bigclivedotcom 6 жыл бұрын
I'd guess a clip or thermal glue. Mounting holes on such a large COB could result in bending and warping.

Clive, would it be possible to use some of those varible resistor ICs found in 240v LED modules to limit over voltages and then power theses things from a car?
@bigclivedotcom
@bigclivedotcom 6 жыл бұрын
They're not designed for such high currents. It would be better to use either a simple resistor to drop the small voltage difference, or a low drop regulator.

Hello, have you tried put them all leds in series and put under the sunlight to see how many volts you get? Tip: RPP Nigel Cheese technology

I want to put something like these in old Mole Richardson 1K light fixtures. Zip/Softlights. Why can’t LED’s make that happen yet?!

Do all LED manufacturers have to match chips on their LED panels or just the cheap ones? I would think that good process- and quality control would eliminate the need for high-end manufacturers to match their chips.

There are filters photographers use to eliminate glare and reflections.. it’s not an ND filter or if filter but I believe a polarizing filter.. you just rotate them until it blocks the light you want eliminated and is used in shooting cars or water or really anything shiney and would be perfect when used in conjunction with your ring light here!!! Awesome stuff and new sub!

I think the polarising filter works best with distant point sources like the sun.

Can you run a led strip on 230V with resistors?
@bigclivedotcom
@bigclivedotcom 6 жыл бұрын
You could, but the strip would be live and the resistors would get very hot.
