Google is concerned ChatGPT could disrupt its search engine business. According to the New York Times, Google’s management went so far as to issue a “code red”. Its CEO, Sundar Pichai, reportedly held a series of meetings about the tech giant’s AI strategy and is devoting internal resources to address the threat. That’s because ChatGPT can deliver all kinds of information in a digestible manner in a matter of seconds. Whereas the Google search engine will find the same information but serve it up in the form of a bunch of links you then have to sort through yourself. Do you think AI is about to transform the internet as we know it?

@@Theguywithspectacles It isn't, that's just a commercial. The text transformer is trained on vast amounts of articles and litterature, so when asked leading questions, it responds like a (dystopian) science fiction novel.

Google gives you satisfactory answers that chatGPT can’t? I have the exact opposite experience. In the rare instances where chatGPT cannot give a good answer google doesn’t easily answer whatsoever. I would like you to give some examples of what kind of things chatGPT doesn’t give a good answer to that google does.

I believe that what Sean Finlay meant was, that chat gpt is hard coded in such a way that the majority of answers are super politically correct. This is in part I believe to avoid unnecessary future suits..

Instead of having to open 20 tabs reading articles / threads and trying to find the answers between 1 million ads and a lot of rambling, I can ask ChatGPT and get compiled answers in the same browser window. Very, very good for learning things that are widespread on the internet, such as programming languages / frameworks, cooking recipes, meal plans, recipes for specific amount of kcal etc.

No. Google full of advertisements on the first page. Then the next pages show lists of website which we dont know the one provide facts or false info. If you know how to use chatGPT, its more usefull than google. ChatGPT is the best personal assistant.

Also, people always react with fear to Google's AI presentations than they do with ChatGPT, which I don't understand. I believe Google has been holding back their products due to this and the reputational risks that go with it. Google will be forced to unleash it's AI firepower.

There is really more opportunity than there is risk for google. I mean think about it. The use cases of both are slightly different. You search google to find a bunch of potential information. But ChatGPT is more specific as it sifts through that data for you. Both are similar but still slightly different. One potential opportunity might be integrating ChatGPT with Google Home Assistants to provide better natural language processing and improved follow up questions. Overall, ChatGPT could be used to improve UX for Google products. The real potential risk is if a competitor does this before Google.

google already have its own nlp model like chatgpt, in fact the core of chatGPT, nlp was built by google itself. But, it is risky for google like nobody goes to wikipedia to get info instead we like to go to search engines because we dont want to read entire thing, similarly in future people wont goto search engines instead directly ask AI like chatgpt

Hmm more often than not they cripple the ai. Also they let them shout “I’m going left!” for example to make it easier for the player to know what’s going on. You would not have fun if the bots would use aim bot mechanics to murder you when you are visible for half a second.

Once you visit a website, its URL is usually stored in the browser cache. That's how when we type something in the address bar, it auto completes. Try visiting ChatGPT once and then type "chat" in the address bar.

I think it will be the new google, I find google is just a lot of links to websites and you have to spend a lot of time digging for answers and potentially coming across bad sites in the process. But OpenAI gathers all the information for you and creates a answer for you, but it’s still in the beginning so I’m sure their are inaccuracies etc will need to be improved on in the future to make it better.

I think I prefer searching up information from multiple sources and then making my own personal judgement on it which Google allows than just taking up information from just one source. As Chat GPT doesn't allow for a variety of sources, I don't think it would be beating Google anytime soon

As an expert said it on DW channel, different people worry about different things. For example, the social media clown, Elon Musk, couldn't hide his jealousy and hatred for the CEO of the OpenAI, as he's taking away the much needed attention from him, claimed that it might wipe out humanity, saying that it would get smarter exponentially. Of course he's taking out of his butt, as he's unqualified to say such things. I think the only real worry is disruption of the current jobs in near future, and the reason for this is, the development of AI is faster than adaptation. Otherwise, like previous disruptive innovations, it would not have created any issues.

@@philiphenriksen5208 Lambda is not as good as chatgpt. lambda is trained on dialogue. chaptgpt is trained on large portions of the internet and uses reinforcement learning to develop a reward function for responses. They are different architectures. Google's subsidiary DeepMind will come out with "Sparrow" soon which will probably be as good as chatgpt. However it does not take away from the fact that both would likely diminish the use of google search.

Agreed, it takes a lot of time to extract information using Google searches, if chat gpt is well optimised it will bring everything in one place and save a lot of time, it will also decrease traffic to other websites, so Google and even other websites stand to lose a lot if it succeeds, and it will, it worked very well for my use case!!
