those tubs at the end, priceless. might as well ask the parts counter people for advise. i've been there.. my family does it that way. their go to is always a fuel filter, plugs and wires. i've even changed out a fuel pump on a car that i knew was good just to prove a point to my father inlaw. now he doesn't question me under the hood. admittedly i never figured out the very rare and random stall that thing had. it was a $350 car that replaced a free car i also had to fix. well close to free made a couple MINOR fixes, cv shaft, brake pads, valve pan gasket and re wired the plug wires where a family member screwed them up. less than a day's work. got sideways there, i've always been against fixing what's not broken. i've been wrenching since i could drive and literally a self taught person. just bought a manual and went at it. i've been the parts cannon guy. those days are at an end. bought a graphing scanner and been learning this stuff. i can atleast carry a conversation with people having knowledge and see what the likely issue is on the trims. i just want to say thanks for putting the info out there.

I've just got the web address for the wiring diagrams ,back and forth and now you say it's not available 🐓. I like your boxes, true! I spent yesterday evening "researching" how to fit an adjustable clutch without the special tool, because it said on the box I need one. I woke up in the middle of the night with the realization I didn't need one coz my pressure plate wasn't proud! Swines

I am a young auto mechanic from Canada and watch your channel often. I particularly like your tip, tricks and hacks videos, (the DLC connector tied to the key is something I never thought of) :). Your other videos explaining concepts such as fuel trim, voltage drop etc. are also very clear. For a DIY, I honestly think you are well ahead of many so-called "professional" auto mechanics. Wayyyyy to many guys go the parts-changing route. Thanks for your content and dedication to diagnostics. I like working with certainty and not by means of "plug and pray".

That last bit about the rando parts box was the best. :D I remember when I was first starting out turning wrenches, and all of the guys would tell me to just replace X part. While not ONE person would ever say, why not use a OHM meter on it first, or invest in a power probe, or learn how to read schematics.... Sigh, if I could only go back in time.

I have a great hack for lowering the spare on trucks, use the jack. slide the jack underneath the side of the spare, raise the jack so that you can lower the tire about half way down, while it's there you can drop the cable while it has no tension easier and then drop the jack with the tire on it and roll it out . no wrestling or struggling to lift just slide it out using the jack

Hi Matt, I'm a new subscriber and have a story. bear with me it might be a little long. I build homes, I do the wood framing. We build the wood structure here in So. Cal. Well, years ago when we got up to building the roof structure I would get a big block of wood. A 2x8 or a 2x10 block of wood. I would then sit down with my calculator and start peramulating all the different length's of all the pieces of wood. ( Rafters, Hips, Valleys, Rafter jacks ect....) After I had all my numbers documented, I would take my sharpie or magic marker and label that block of wood---- THE Tablet of Knowledge!! That term became very famous in my neck of the woods. Needless to say I never in a bizzilion years expected another person to use that term. But..... You have the white board of knowledge!! Very cool. I guess it's a small world! I'm learning tons from your videos. Brian

I would like to see a Tips and Tricks part 4 video with information about what you're using for getting diagnostic and service information to repair your vehicles. I'm a part time mechanic and only work on a couple cars a week. I had been using ALLDataDIY but I just went to their site today and the pricing went up from $15.95 per year for a vehicle to $19.99 per month. I'm at a loss for affordable forms of service information and I'm sure there are others in a similar situation to the one I'm in. I can't really afford to pay $180+ per month for the volume of work I do. Thanks again for all of your awesome content!!!!

And as for the box method, have you got those charts in a pdf you could make available? Do you have a list of all the parts needed or possible for every error code? To avoid buying so many boxes, can I just take take the list of possible parts for an error code to Autozone when I see that code? That way, I push the storage of the parts off on them, and I only have to buy parts for each code I see. Efficiency is the key to saving money and effort.

Great tip on the wiring diagrams. Unfortunately, the wiring diagrams at BBBIndustries is now very incomplete. They suffered a DoS attack some time ago and took the site down. They moved all their diagrams from Revbase to their own server but, unfortunately, all the diagrams never made it back. I always check there first, and can always find a few diagrams for every car but have found myself now having to purchase AlldataDIY subscriptions to get the actual diagrams I need. It's frustrating as I used to use them a LOT.

You probably have covered this... Your most important tester is between your ears! Code says miss #4 cylinder, "Intermittent" and and everything looks good, and not missing now. Swap plug with #3, wire w/ #2, coil w/ #1. Clear codes and drive until light re-appears. Change the part moved to the "New"offending cylinder. If still #4, consider injector.

That is exactly the way I did it before I bought an oscilloscope. Either way- its scientific. Rule out variables until the independent variable is found and then validate the effect of that variable to confirm.

@@SchrodingersBox Yes, I totally agree. 55 years ago, before smog, I thought I had made the big leagues when I got a dwell meter and a timing light. No more using a feeler gauge and a tachometer to set points and timing. After completing the IGO Mechanics

Apprenticeship program, I've worked my way up to retirement. I still own a complete shop full of special tools, like a Snap-on Verus. But, it is still what's between our ears that separates the men from the boys, right?

Mr Cats... that presentation was epic as usual... im concerned with the end hack tho... i mean.. OFFICIALLY... that was Not a box... more of a TUB, you could agree... however the TITLE of the boxtub fits its intended reference - quite well... 😆.. you're great man, learned tons from you

Thanks- and actually you have a point on the tub PLUS if you think about it, the "Kilmore The Car Guy TUB" sounds way better.

If you have a broken hard disk drive you can get two strong magnets and a mirror (the platter) that won't break when you drop it.

I have 1 tip and 1 trick/hack..... Tip: try washing your hands with liquid laundry soap ( with oxi works best) it's absolutely amazing how great it works and skin feels good afterwards too! And for the trick/hack... Just trick someone from AutoZone to "fix" the car before hand.... By the time they give up you can automatically rule out the new O2 sensors, battery, alternator, maf, purge valve, the 2nd and 3rd sets of O2 sensors and 3 gas caps lol
