I wondered where the gauge was set on the needle, the tip or the barrel. Now I know. I am disabled and can not get out on my own. Prayed for a knitting mentor. I have found one. Thank you.

Hello Suzanne. I discovered you when going through some Fiberchats interviews and immediately began binge watching your channel! For the first time in my many years of knitting I am actually practising improving my edges and using the tips of the needles more effectively. This is very helpful! I am a knitter of about 40 years and a thrower but knit 2 handed for colorwork and my continental tension is all over the place. I am determined to knit a very complicated fair isle sweater and wanted to improve my continental tension prior beginning that project. I have watched many videos about my tension problems as I am a crocheter and wanted to learn to knit, as a beginner even tension is one of my biggest issue. Most of the video tutorials that I have watched nobody is really emphasizing how big the effect on knitting between just the tip of the needle rather than pushing it with the barrel and causes it to stretch. your video really really does make sense and helped fix my tension issues. Thank you and so happy to have found your video.

Brilliant! I've *really* been struggling to control my tension since I injured my right wrist and hand several months ago. Although I've mostly healed, my hand tires more easily now and I get intermittent numbness or pain as I'm knitting. All of those things cause momentary changes in the way I hold my needles and form stitches, which affects my ability to keep an even tension going. This simple change of forming stitches on my needle tips has increased the length of time I can knit comfortably and my stitches are even more uniform and evenly tensioned than they were pre-injury! Thank you SO much for this and for all your videos and tutorials. You're a gem. :-)

Hi, Suzanne. I just found your channel yesterday when someone kindly shared one of your videos on the Knitting Paradise forum. I am a 66 yr old native Floridian. Mom taught me to knit English style more than 55 years ago. There are crocheters in my family, but Mom was the only knitter I have ever known, as unbelievable as that sounds. I piddled around with making scarves, hats and occasional sweaters over the years until I stumbled upon Knitting Paradise about three years ago. A whole new world opened up to me and I have been working on learning new techniques and now consider myself a competent intermediate knitter. I also transitioned from throwing to right handed flicking about two years ago and found that improved my tension quite a bit, though my purls still tend to be very slightly looser than my knit stitches. I’m starting to think about trying Continental and watched your series of short videos on that subject. After today’s housework is done, I will sit down with my sticks and string and give it a try. Wish me luck!

Awesome video as usual Suzanne, this is truly a game changer tip. When I first started knitting in the 60s I wondered why the stitches looked good sometimes and crummy other times! Just knowing about the barrel connection would have been a light bulb moment that took me a while to figure out on my own.

I often use bamboo needles that yarn doesn't glide on so well. That being said, though I'm a lefty, I have a difficult time doing continental because I've crocheted many years, left-handed, and my finger just doesn't want to stay airborne. 😁. I'm practicing the Continental method, here and there, though, because it looks awesome. Thank you for your videos. They are a joy to watch.

You can do it, Stacy! With practice you can train your brain muscle memory. That being said, I applaud your bravery to step outside of your comfort zone. ❤️

I'm taking another stab at continental knitting as I want to knit more efficiently, not necessarily faster. Suzanne's needle "tips" and her method of holding the yarn in the left hand (over both the index and middle fingers) has brought a huge improvement to my technique. Thank you, Suzanne!

Thank you Suzanne! I know now this is why I had trouble with my continental knitting after watching your informative video. I’ve recently switched to the American style flicking method where I’ve found I can keep the proximity of the yarn closer between the needles as well as work closer to the tips. But I like using different knitting techniques so will try this again when I’m in the mood to go “continental” again. Thanks for the great tip.

Knitting with Suzanne Bryan - Hi Suzanne, I’m back to continental style for a current project and just finished the swatch using your method of tips knitting. What a difference! I made your words from the video a mantra “form the stitch, slide it down the barrel.” As long as I kept that mindfulness going, the results were great! Thanks so much again for all you do for the knitting community. Blessings!

How is it possible that I have never heard this before! I knew it was the barrel that sized the stitch, but I thought it happened when you wrapped the yarn, so I have always pushed the needle through and wrapped the barrel. Now it appears that everyone knew to knit on the tips of the needles but me. I guess this is one of the things you are taught if you are not self taught and try to figure everything out for yourself. Thanks again, Suzanne!
