Event Horizon: Dr. Weir has gone evil
What’s happening in this Event Horizon movie clip?
Miller (Laurence Fishburne) and Lt. Starck (Joely Richardson) encounter a disfigured Dr. Weis. The latter appears to have lost his good sense and seems possessed by an evil force. He explains to Miller and Starck that they all belong in this ship and then tries to reactivate the core in order to let the evil forces come back. He’s fortunately stopped by Starck and a fight ensues.

What’s the movie Event Horizon about?
Its name: EVENT HORIZON. The high-tech, pioneering research spacecraft mysteriously vanished, without a trace, on its maiden voyage seven years earlier. But a weak, persistent signal from the long-missing craft prompts a rescue team, headed by the intrepid Captain Miller (Laurence Fishburne), to wing its way through the galaxy on a bold rescue mission. Accompanying Miller is his elite crew and the lost ship's designer (Sam Neill) ; their mission is to find and salvage the state-of-the-art interstellar vehicle. However, once aboard the Event Horizon, the team discovers several ominous clues and starts to realize that the previous crew has known a very dark fate. Soon, supernatural events start to occur.

@@bigboner4605 From the Event Horizon Wiki: Screenwriter Philip Eisner acknowledged that Warhammer 40,000 influenced the story. In the setting of Warhammer 40,000, spaceships travel the galaxy by passing through "the Warp"-a parallel dimension where faster-than-light travel is possible, conceptually similar to "hyperspace" in Star Wars, but which is also inhabited by demonic spirits that can infiltrate the ship and possess the crew if said ship is not properly shielded. Fans consider Event Horizon to be an unofficial prequel to Warhammer 40,000, when humankind discovers the Warp and learns of its dangers the hard way.

Weir goes to such great lengths to answer Miller’s question of where the ship has been. He even sacrifices his eyesight for that purpose. Yet somehow he’s the bad guy. Love the sound design on the arrow gun. This film was way ahead of its time in special effects, sound, concept, and so much more. I'm not going to go as far as to say it revolutionized scifi in film, I mean I want to say that, but at the very least I'd say it set a really high bar for future films. Kurt Russell was right when he said to Paul Anderson "Forget about what this movie's doing now. In fifteen years time, this is going to be the movie you're glad you made".

My mom and I watched this today (not our first time) and she believes the reason Weir becomes easily seduced by the ship's presence is because he got sucked into the gateway portal thing some time beforehand and just didn't remember. My theory is when everyone else is being tormented by the ship showing them their greatest regrets, they all chose not to give in except for Weir. He gave in at a certain point due to his wife's suicide and that made him more susceptible to the ship's influence. Which explanation(s) do all of you have?

This is very unrealistic, there is not enought air inside a ship like this to last a 3 minutes long decompression, and neither the decompression of 1 atm is strong enough to bend metal, especially by human hands... So clearly, there are a lot of warp shenanigans going around here.

I honestly think that the ship and the reactor basically creates these delusions and people are reacting to it like people would react to Fear gas or laughing gas.

Delusions? Dude, Weir litetally separated one of the crew members from their skin, sowed it back onto the skeleton, and somehow got the whole thing affixed to the ceiling with little to no effort, in a short matter of minutes. I am not so convinced these are mere delusions. Some are, but Weir wasn't just someone gone mad. Honestly I'm convinced whatever the hell it is, is demonic in nature. I don't think mere gravity waves can produce something so chilling and void of humanity.

This film borrows from a few others. Solaris. Hellraiser. Aliens (but that's a given). Some 1950's one that I can't remember the name. Edit: Forbidden Planet

I'm pretty sure doom 3 was inspired by event horizon. I really wish the new games were like doom 3. Because the horror atmosphere is so great. It's just like what sadly happened to gears and resident evil The action got better but they slowly lost in what made them good. The bleak atmosphere of the dark.

@@Elitesolider1023 exactly. The new doom games are just fast paced action shooters. Doom 3 had the scary atmosphere.

@@rgblue Yeah, and the new gears games just have bad stories that are losing our atmosphere. The only thing I liked about 5 was further revealing the grub's origins. And having a lot of invotion in the gameplay, even though it could have felt more like years instead of something like from destiny or some s***.
