Endgame acquired!
Apologies for another filler vid, down with Covid atm but I managed to get this beautiful Soya U80 built up so I had to do a sound test. I also realised I put yolk in the video block oops my bad
I'll be doing a full length video on thoughts of the process + design notes I find cool in a separate video. Cheers for sticking around!

RAMA WORKS U80-A Seq 2 (Soya Hotswap)
Brass plate, W02-A Internal Dampener, MUTE, built stock with standoffs
Keycaps: ePBT Grand Tour
Switches: InfinityKey Cow (uhmwpe) lubed lightly w/205g0
Stabs: Durock V2 w/Owlab bar, lubed w/205g0
Mods: PE Foam Mod, Tape mod (three layers)

Sounds nice. Looks like in the next round of u80s they'll be including/selling PE foam as an extra.

Green Door Geeks has custom cut PE foam for the U80, I just got mine in the mail.

Cannot wait for your upcoming videos! Finding the U80 on the net is so rare that when I came across something so high-production, I cannot help but gasp at how amazing the keyboard is. I am the owner of the same configuration (base kit that is) and have been loving it to the base of the bones. As I have just watched your QK65 video, I really want an update on your RAMA and see if you have switched to the same clacky build. I currently have mine with the clackiest things possible, and I really do enjoy it thoroughly. Hope to see more from you!

Thank you so much mate!!! So many kind words here. Stoked that you like your U80 too!! I'll probably post an update on my U80 at some point, I've got the same hyperglides in there atm and absolutely loving it. Got rid of the PE Foam as well haha

@@AvinashKunjamboo this is going on a personal recommendation here but... check your local market to see if anyone is selling the Dinokey Mint. This is a beautiful, clacky switch that really fights the somewhat mutedness of the Rama. It is also equipped with double-staged springs as stock, and are really smooth without needing any lubrication. Lubing it is only going to refine the sound and remove the tiniest plasticines of the switch, so I like to throw it on stock anyway. Furthermore, I would recommend you checking out some SA SP keycaps. The SA profile complements that clackiness really well and surely pops your keyboard. Beautiful stuff, and while the profile can be a bit difficult to get adjusted to initially, if you are used to it, the sound is not to be missed. Have a nice day!

Hey Avi, I have a very similar build (without internal dampener/PE foam/tempest mod) using milky top lubed telios switches instead. Was wondering if you've tried your duck switches with this? I've bought the new flexy U80b PCB + PE foam + PC plate + duck switches to upgrade with. Looking forward to trying those out next year when they arrive.

Hey mate! No I haven't tried the duck switches with these actually - if the M65B is anything to go by, I'd assume it's pretty harsh. Keen to hear your thoughts on your U80!

Did you add the PE foam on top of the PCB, then add the MUTE mount on top? I've just ordered some PE foam and am looking to do the same.

Yeah mate did exactly that. I did it before the RAMA PE Foam was available though so it's just a janky sheet from a box I had lying around haha

Does the rama u80 have room in the bottom cavity of the case to add more foam like soborthane?

Yessir it does, the plate rests on an angle though so it might be a bit weird if you want the sorborthane to sit against the PCB

I don't know man, I'll be honest here. Your board sounds nice, but not quite the $1000 experience that we expected. By putting pe foam and probably tons of layers of tape, you made it sound exactly like a $100 would with the same mods. I'm not at all against those, in fact, they sound really good, but I just don't like how you named your video "what a $1000 custom keyboard sounds like". This should be named "what pe foam and tape mod sound like" instead because it is what it is. Case and switch sounds don't matter anymore, and eventually, it just sounds like... foam. Next time you do a sound test on an expensive board, try to do it with the least mods and foams possible. The case itself has sound characteristics, and that is how you differentiate it from more cheap-sounding ones, or in other words, how you feel and appreciate your keyboard better. Also, your spacebar sounds really nice, but I heard some problems with your 2u stabs. Have you tried balancing the wires in the middle sections yet? Otherwise, nice build, the u80-a was absolutely beautiful, and the video with that yellowish tone fitted very well too. Congrats on your endgame, I hope you enjoy it. My apologies if I was being rude.

Hey mate! Thank you for that, definitely understandable - criticism is always welcome so I appreciate that. I know PE Foam is a pretty polarising thing as it changes the sound of a board drastically and ends up mushing everything into one - but hey, as we know the beauty of the hobby is it's all personal preference. Personally I think the title makes sense because I literally spent 1000 bucks on it, and I think it still retains a lot of the U80's sound signature. I have definitely worked on the stabs since then haha you're right - they needed to be balanced a whole lot more. Thanks for the positive comments on the build too! Much appreciated.
