A big part of this area was always going to be the station building. I've been working hard on it over the past month and managed to get it mostly completed. I'll continue to work on it for the next video and turn my attention to some of the platform details and footbridge.

You have come an awfully long way in your scratch building, I remember how Ealing Broadway looked a number of years ago. You have certainly captured the look of BR in the home counties back in the early 80s. Smashing.

Have you considered reproducing the giant red BR logo from the Swindon building and mounting it on the stairwell/elevator section? It'd be a dramatic addition and well within the parameters of artistic license. Always a pleasure to see your process and dedication to detail.

Loved the announcement at the beginning.. all the stations of my younger years. Lived with a house that backed onto southcote Junction just outside reading. Get 50‘s piling through on the way to Cornwall, lots of 47‘s, 33‘s a few 25‘s using the junction to head of to Basingstoke. Had a line to reading coal merchants at the end of my garden. One a day a 08

I worked at Villiers House, the large white tall block on the other side of the road from this project. What a fantastic job you have done here. I spent most of my day watching the platforms, instead of doing my Library work (it was the local Uni's Library, for a couple of years). My only regret was that it was 30 yrs too late, I missed all the 52's and 50's :( Thank you. Keep it up.

What really I like about this project is the playful, but at the same time serious and respectful recreation of a period and setting so utterly unfashionable and unromantic. This is how I, as a foreigner, remember taking trains and (later) driving between large, post-industrial UK cities in the mid/late eighties. The Age of Thatcherism. (Of course, the countryside was way more charming, and even the worn down cities had a cool vibe, with first class music clubs and lots of fun. As long as you kept some distance to the boot boys and football hooligans roaming the streets at night.)

Stupendous attention to details as ever, you are quick to point out your own misgivings to the finer points, that none of us mere mortals would ever even have considered until you pointed them out to us. I realised this when you were so meticulous when fixing the junk and litter in the edges of the canal that the rest of us, given a glimpse of the layout as we watch progress of one of your trains, would never consider looking for. You know your own faults as you have constructed this mini area of reality, that until you said anything about, we wouldn't have a clue to look for. ABSOLUTELY RUDDY MARVELLOUS.

If you think this in the real world will be gone but you will have preserved history. Much of my history, I might add. I remember a Wimpy Nickerbocker glory don’t you? All the best , Alex

Yay! One hour of model making fun! An appropriate way to spend a Sunday afternoon 😊. The flat roof of the apartment block could use some puddles, water lasts a surprisingly long time on flat roofs that are not built as carefully, as they should. And since the block was probably built as cheaply as possible by the LocalContractor™ they probably took a few shortcuts during construction. And each new slab building is an uglier monster than its predecessor. I love it, it just looks great. Although the red bricks almost make it look good. I don't know how it was predominately done in England, but here in Germany, occasionally they used yellow bricks for such buildings to make the misery complete. But the corrugated iron gives the whole thing a… special touch, I have to say. You absolutely need real life examples to add details like this to your models, you just can't make it up. If you haven't studied architecture, that is. As far as the corrugated iron is concerned: There are embossing tools with which you can make it yourself from thick aluminium foil. Luke Towan once used something like that, but it should be possible to make it yourself with a 3D printer. But I haven't tried it myself yet.

Another great update !! The "Wimpy burger" sign made me smile as it brought back s lot of sweet childhood memories of when we used to cross over from Ostend ( Belgium) to Dover (UK) in the 1980's for shopping and just because my mom and dad (God bless their souls ) loved it there. A quick snack burger at Wimpy's was an absolute MUST during every trip. Keep up the good work mate, I'm loving every single episode of your story !

Fantastic progress Richard. Great to see that you modified the platform heights, I thought they looked a bit high but put it down to an optical illusion. I can remember when there were two separate stations at Ealing Broadway. One was for the District Line and the other one, over the railway, serviced the GWR and Central Line. You sure are lighting up the part of my memory from a very very long time ago now. Keep up the great work. Roy.

Wow. We’ve been following Everard Junction since your previous layout mainly for the most admirable attention to detail, and were quite shocked that you had to start all over again. However, this one now is coming together superbly. As far as we can tell, your detailing has only been lifting up further fantastically, and always gives brilliant ideas. We can only imagine the UK in the 80s, but your layout certainly does provide an excellent insight. Cherio.

In regard to corrugated steel, I would suggest Brunel Hobbies corrugated iron maker; it is a Lazer cut tool for corrugating aluminium foil. The tool is offered in multiple scales and sizes, although based in Victoria, Australia, it is possible to have it shipped to the UK. I first found out about this product from Luke Towan's 'Boulder Creek Railroad' KZfaq channel.
