This one follows on from the previous video concerning the scenic break at the countryside section of the layout. With most of the basics complete I turn my attention to the much needed details, trees and bushes. I also complete some more work to better hide the transition for this end of the layout.
Always more bits to do but I'm pleased with the progress so far. I'm looking forward to continuing the scenery further up the line. Enjoy

Richard your standard of modelling is absolutely top notch…but the relatable way in which you explain your techniques really is the icing on the cake. I used to visit and photograph from a bridge in Lower Basildon, in the Thames Valley in the early eighties. This scene is highly reminiscent of that location as I remember it.

I have binge-watched a load of your videos over the last few weeks and loved them Richard. I am not a modeller and don't have the skill to start, but love looking at model railways and really admire your work. I have loved watching the 'new' layout grow over a few years (condensed into a few weeks for me). I think the terrace houses are Georgian (fan shaped fan-light, not the Victorian oblong style) which fits perfectly with the 'story' of the railway being built at some point after the houses, probably taking the land at the back that was their garden, and signalling the change in the houses from dwellings for families to flats. Really looking forward to further updates - thanks for your devotion to sharing the detail with the world.

A quick suggestion for a future project. Turn the area around the 6 uncompleted house into a new build construction site.

My wife happened to come up behind me as I had momentarily paused the video on a shot of the road that passes over the bridge, even before you had added the trees. She asked me why I was just staring at a road. She was amazed when I explained that it was actually part of a model railroad. "It looks so real!". I cannot think of a higher compliment. Well done, Sir!

I love the fact that the fence isn't perfectly straight. There's bends, it's a bit twisted by the years it's been through, it's stained dirty from dust and dirt. Something like that can really set a scene to life.

Absolutely stunning Richard! That has to be the most realistic scenic break ever modelled by anyone. By creating a bridge that you can see both sides of, rather than just the usual tunnel, it very convincingly gives the illusion there is no scenic break at all and trains out of view carry on for miles in a straight direction past the bridge. Fiddle yard, what fiddle yard?

Absolutely amazing I look forward to your videos. And after that you know there's a 'but' coming... fence posts are never brown even when new. They are a pale greyish green new and become almost silver grey, and fade into the back ground. The footpath around the field goes into the corner, people never walk to a right angle, they cut the corner. I offer this to help, certainly not criticise, your work is truly excellent.
@EverardJunction
@EverardJunction 2 жыл бұрын
I'll add that to my list of small jobs left for the scene. Cheers for the advice. There's a few walks local to me were people have cut the corner. Also some where the corners are walked but that might be due to crops or grass length.

Well done again, as a railway S&T Tech for 30+ years now, as a youngster I remember digging in the orange pipes and then digging them back out lol, it’s lovely to see someone add just a nod to those little everyday details that were everywhere, think you got the right level of detail, as too much can over complicate the scene

When we started using the orange pipe to put the cables through, I suspect that some tamper drivers deliberately aimed for them and must have found it funny to get a direct hit with their prongs. Great capture of the atmosphere of the time. I probably wore a black Pea-jacket or great-coat with just a hi-vis' vest over it and jeans or trousers. None of this hard hat and "orange everything" back then. The old boy I worked with always wore a flat cap.

Worth the wait! Cunning plan with the scenic break and fiddle yard embankment; and the rear embankment and road looks good, too. The field looks splendid. It would definitely suite some horses, I think - there were (and I think possibly still are) some fields with horses alongside the London Paddington to Slough section of the GWML.
