This sounds great to me, I've had such a hard time trying to get into EQ2 because it's so vast and overwhelming, even trying a TLE. But having one with less crazy stuff and closer to the original game is very tempting. Last time I tried EQ1 on Oakwynd and despite being brand new to that style got to Velious, did some raiding and got my Druid epic. I think this time might be looking at EQ2 and giving it a fair shot.

I’m really hype for this, I hope it lives up to its hype. I started playing in 2007 before RoK was out, EoF was still current. I heard lots of stories about the good old days, especially the old class system and citizenship quests. Back in 2007 the old neighborhoods were still fully intact, they didn’t “remove” them until 2010. I remember very well back then how functional they were. Seeing them again fully functioning will be fun, the current iteration of them just isn’t the same.

Very exciting news for the Origin Server!!! I would love to hear your opinion on how classes will feel within that era. I played the game a ton when it first came out but i was extremely young and do not remember how viable certain classes were at that time for any form of content, whether it was solo, group, pvp or raid. My concern is that its just going to be the same thing we have now where it's just play necro, sk or fury and then every other class just feels like you're a side character. (which is super lame) I want to make sure i can play my brigand (my favorite class) and know I will still have fun and not feel like im just dumb for not playing a necro or sk

This is very exciting. I just found out about it today. I promptly resubscribed and created a character to test out for the final 3 days of beta. I wish it was from a 2004 build instead of 2006, but I'll take what I can get. 2006 EQ2 definitely beats 2024 EQ2!

SK grave sacrament use to pull a skeleton from the ground and top the dps, and the stance buff turned you into a skeleton. Hope they both.

Almost 10 years of TLE servers and they never seemed to put much effort into them. Maybe they were holding out on us this whole time, working hard behind the scenes to recreate "classic"... I doubt it lol 😭

While I do not have any plans to hop over from Varsoon because I actually enjoy a lot of those QOL changes that are currently in place on the servers, hopefully it turns out decent for the folks that do venture over there. Returning to that unique of itemization seems like biting off a lot more than they can chew considering how much of the current itemization is copy and pasted, and that's with just the 'Primary' attribute stat style, not Strength and/or Agility and/or Wisdom and/or Intelligence. There will likely be more of a market and timesink for tradeskill related activities as those bardings from the crates made leveling crafting soooo trivial. Actually having to hope for a Master to drop or purchase it from another player with spell research being removed is going to make those much more sought after as well. Honestly my biggest determining factor has been when EQ1 and now EQ2 created the 'Free Trade' style TLP's again. Not sure I would ever want to play on another server without it. Nice being able to pick stuff up and throw to a friend or guildie. It's kind of hilarious to see raid-tier loot for sale on the broker, but it is typically so overpriced that if someone does want to buy it more power to them for stimulating that economy :P

Even if this is bumpy this is the biggest leap for EQ2 TLEs now that they have their own ruleset and patches entirely. Once a TLE depot is developed it can be refined over time, just may take a few TLEs to get right.

extremely ambitious for modern Daybreak/Darkpaw, i'm tempering my expectations until the Beta. hoping for the best though, even though there's a 95% chance that it will be a buggy mess initially as old 2006-era exploits come back

The only reason I'm not very excited is there won't likely be many raiding guilds, and since EQ2 only allows 24 on a raid, it will be ridiculously difficult to find a raiding guild for anyone who only focuses on a single class.

This seems really interesting, but I’m extremely hesitant to want to jump in as I am not a sweat and I would want to play the game casually. Hopefully it’s pretty welcoming in that respect.

Did they get rid of shards (when you died) and xp debt after or before this update or do you think we will still have them?

Is there anywhere we can go to refresh ourselves on how races and classes were back in 2006?

If they make it with no in-game shop and no krono I will be back!

I love the idea of removing P2W loot boxes and Krono. This will level the playing field quite a bit and bring us back toward the essence of the old school MMO. Hopefully Darkpaw can crack down on botting with this new server, as that has also been a major issue on prior TLE's.

One thing that i really really miss were the original graphics for the spells and abilities, the effects were so beautiful but they got rid of them in an attempt to make the game "cleaner", i don't know, i never understood why... 😔

Necro for TLE every time. Unless somebody is going to die crafting, it is not true classic. Reading that a person critically failed and died was always a sad moment. We all knew that at any moment our death from crafting could be imminent. Also, opening a Master chest with a low health party member to be a jerk. I think subcrafting was a good part of the game. Unfortunately there are just not enough people to ensure everybody can get what they want made.

I remember update 24... what a bummer.... why can't they just do actual vanilla launch? This is the patch where they wow'ed the tradeskilling, so you don't actually need other players components... you just smush rocks into pieces of armor.... no need for a tailor nor an alchemist... The game was complete cancer by this point in time... making mounts pointless (as you can just go on boats for free and use the KoS teleporters to get everywhere), and this is a LONG TIME after they made all the mobs soloable (goodbye classic grinding spots, like scarecrows, clay golems, et al), gold economy was whacky and leveling was a joke. How disappointing... they revert to a time where the game was already scrambling to be more like wow... this patch in particular was such an immense disappointment

All the staff from the live servers will converge on this server and make it feel like a new and improved game. But its not. Its still the same dead eq2 it has been for 10 yrs. Dont buy the hype. Go read the comments on all of the official eq2 videos released. Dont get tricked by staff and professional gamers and streamers. Its maximized and micro managed to the point its not even fun anymore.
