Brings back a few memories of the club's better days. That side was certainly the best I've seen since the 1970 championship side. Great time to be an Evertonian, going toe to toe with Liverpool. They were without doubt the two best sides in the country at that time.

The great tragedy is that we reached our peak (and were almost certainly the best side in Europe) when the five-year ban on English clubs came into effect the season after Heysel. Little-known fact: Fourteen Liverpool "supporters" were given THREE year prison sentences for manslaughter - not as long as the football ban - Figure THAT one out.

Chris Cross I've got to say it's very possible that Everton would have won the European cup in 85/86. They certainly had a better team than both steuea Bucharest and Barcelona who played each other in the final that season

distantvoices very true. I would have liked to have seen that!! And we might have done if it wasn’t for the actions of a number of dickheads and UEFA who shouldn’t have chosen that ground. I mean what possessed them to pick it?? Arsenal played there 5 years previously and came back saying it was a death trap.

Remember watching this at time, and hard to think in 14 months, this great season for Everton be 40 years old. Great side alongside neighbours Liverpool.

I'm a City fan and we were in the 2nd this season (best season ever for lads!). And got promotion in front of 55,000+ .Got family who are Everton fans and always had a soft spot for them. Top mob too. Neville Southall what a goalkeeper. Brave as fuck too. Thanks for the top celebration when we won the league last year!!! Everton are the proper Scouse club as we are the proper Manc club.

Im Pretty sure the Everton team of 85/86 would have won the European Cup. They had Lineker too that year and it was won by Steaua Bucharest!!!Im a LFC fan too and genuinely think its tragic they never had that opportunity due to the Idiotic behaviour of fans in Heysel.
