Don't forget Road Dogg was feuding over the Hardcore championship with Al Snow and Hardcore Holly while Billy Gunn was feuding over the IC and Ryan Shamrock against Goldust, Val Venis and Ken Shamrock but a couple weeks before mania in a shocking swerve the new age outlaws won the wrong championships leading to two pointless matches.

Whatever Russo's faults were, he at least made an effort to find someting for everyone on the card to do, so that the fans could get into them. It didn't always work (remember Beaver Cleavage?), but when it did, it was magic that allowed the wrestlers to sail for years if not decades on the gimmick (Roaddogg, Godfather). Although disappointing frmo an in-ring perspective, 1999 was a decent enough year overall, with the company being able to ride the major storylines (Austin v. McMahon, the Ministry & Corporation stables, and the rise of Corporate HHH and breakup of DX). However, Russo's departure marked the beginning of the true golden era, with the arrival of the Dudleys and Jericho, the elevation HHH to permanent main event status, (including his marriage to Stephanie), and the Edge & Christian v. Hardys ladder match that remade the business yet again.

I will never forget that Jarrett and Debra at Over the Edge. And I will never forgive whomever pushed Jarrett in the back, yelling at him to 'go'. It is still heartbreaking to watch. Which is why it is not my 'go to' PPV either. A horrible night.

No Mercy '99 the day I was born

It should have been the Undertaker versus Ken Shamrock in Hell in a Cell at WrestleMania. I imagine that match would have been much more memorable, for all the right reasons!

Started watching in 98 and in 99 is when I became a huge fan and started ordering the PPVs every month (well, begging my parents to) and at the time I loved all of it. But looking back, 99 was the worst year for actual matches and overall PPV quality.
