Watch all 24 goals from Alex Ovechkin from the 2020-21 season. The Washington Capitals captain led the team in goals with 24 and finished fourth on the team in points. Ovechkin finished the year with 730 career goals.

Incorrect. Gretzky is and his almost 900 goals say so.

@@careyblake4522 statistically, in the time Gretzky was playing, there was 32% more goals being scored on average compared to nowadays. If we apply that number to ovechkin’s count, we get roughly 1,000 goals, more than Gretzky.

@@careyblake4522 additionally, ovechkin has scored all of his goals with one team, whilst Gretzky has scored all his goals throughout 4 teams. Also, he needs to average about 33 goals for 5 seasons to pass Gretzky. Considering that he was on pace for 35-40 goals this season, he is still at it and definitely capable of beating Gretzky’s goal record by the time his new contract ends.

@@careyblake4522 did Grezky have a full lockout season and 3 half seasons like Ovi did? Add 100 to Ovis resume if were gonna be realistic

Had a slow start to the season. Was back to his normal goal scoring ways for like at least 15-20 games before he got injured. Had Ovi played the full 56 games he probably would have reached 30 goals.

Greatest goalscorer in history. I don’t care if he doesn’t reach Gretzky’s record. Gretzky played in a time with arguably the most awful defensive tactics in professional sports and teams were scoring 10 goals a game on eachother. Ovie’s a much better goalscorer than Gretzky ever was.

@@lo-fi8558 sorry, i meant compared to the amount of praise he gets. Just like Laine used to. But i do give him props for still being effective. I think thats the most impressive thing, outside of his prime days. He being old and effective not many can do that. Selanne was too, maybe the #8 has something to do with it😅
