Do you respond to comments? I need some guidance on finding a suitable drama school. How do I tell if one is right for me? Do I need an official four or two year school? Or just a couple of choice classes? Any help would be largely appreciated! I never began taking classes seriously until you mentioned it in one of your videos, and given your background, I trusted your opinion much more. Thank you for your channel and program!

This is a good one, Kurt. Everyone, even veterans, need to be reminded of this. Every audition is an opportunity to impress a casting director. I recently read for a character on a Hulu series. I immediately thought I'm a terrible fit for this, but I did my absolute best. I didn't book it. But I was asked to read for another role in the series a week later and, boom. Booked it.

My career highlight in acting won't be getting an Oscar it would be getting to act in a scene with you. Keep up the awesome work, you've helped me properly evaluate how I want my career to go and the best ways to go about doing it. If this channel didn't exist I would of done everything a beginning actor shouldn't do and I would of traveled to the wrong places. Thank you, truly!

I want to add something to Kurt's points that might help people auditioning. For me, I imagine the audition tape is the ACTUAL performance of the character I'm applying to play. Without costume or props or special camera angles or even the whole script - in that moment for those script sides, I'm playing character and giving it my best. Even when I shut off the camera, I sometimes give a bow in my studio space like an audience of the director, casting people etc were there! Because the casting directors are asking for a performance from you for that minute or so. You simply give it and then walk away knowing you did your best. If they want more from you, they'll come get you. Otherwise, you did your job to play the character. :) hope this mindset may help you!

Question: Does accepting the audition even though you might not fit the role extend to having your rep submit you to casting? I sometimes get the feeling that reps send out blind emails to All talent on the roster, and that it's up to us, talent i.e., to see if there's a match.

Good advice. If some one just kills it in an audition, I'd certainly consider altering the character description. I'm casting for a short, and I have half a dozen 'governor staff'. One needs to speak Spanish at times. Does that mean a non-Hispanic can't speak Spanish? Nope. Superb acting is rare, so.. Great acting trumps a character description in many cases. Also, as Bryan Cranston has said, an actor's job is auditioning.

It was a question I had been asking myself just recently. A few days ago, I auditioned for the same casting director again, for the same show, for a similar uniformed character. Now, I've been auditioning for her a few times before (and other), but not booked anything, yet, and it made me ask the following questions: 1) Do casting directors have a quota to fulfil that the producers ask for? (e.g. cast at least 20 people as per a contract) 2) Does that mean they liked my previous auditions (or are they just filling said quota if there is one)? 3) Or does that mean they simply forgot my face after so-and-so many weeks or months and just want to check me out? I was very lucky when I booked my second audition, but learned later that it takes about 50-70 auditions to book your first gig ever, so I guess I'm facing the reality of numbers right now.

Thank you, Kurt. I understand in this video you were speaking to auditioning to whatever is sent to you (if auditions are directly being sent to you) but what are your thoughts on that approach as it relates to online casting sites? Do you recommend auditioning for things that are posted that dont fit you? Do you think they would take it negatively if lets say im one race but i auditioned for a apart of another race? I understand this is your opinion on the matter and that we of course can make whatever decision we like, but I am new to this and would love your opinion? 😊

I recently got an audition for a theater project. I’m super excited about having an audition and an opportunity it’s to be on stage for the first time I decided to make a career change. That said, I don’t love the project very much. Should I cancel the audition, or go through with it in order to get more experience?
@preston_padgett

The problem is I can’t get auditions. I’m in Atlanta now, and applied to all the agencies I could, but Houghton Talent and basically all the others said they aren’t taking any new submissions, and the only work I can get is through websites that book you as an extra without an audition, so i’m not able to show my acting ability and make those crucial connections. So idk how to get any actual auditions when none of the agents want new people.
@ActingCareerCenter
@ActingCareerCenter 2 жыл бұрын
There is quite a bit you can do without an agent. Submit yourself or auditions on Actors Access, Casting Networks, Backstage, etc. If you are still new to Atlanta, start networking networking NETWORKING. I've gotten so many opportunities through my network that had nothing to do with my agent. In my opinion, the best way to start networking in a new city is to get into an acting class so that you are surrounding yourself with other industry professionals on a weekly basis. I got my first agent because one of my classmates referred me to their agent. Agencies may say that are not taking any new submissions but the truth is that if you have a compelling enough marketing package, every agency would make an exception. So work your ass off to get to the point where agents can't ignore you. Things you should be doing on your own: - Get EXCELLENT headshots - Create an EXCELLENT demo reel (either from work you've booked on your own or content you create on your own) - Make sure your casing profiles (Actors Access, Casting Networks) are all perfectly filled out

Hi, your video is super helpful everytime! I've a question, recently I got many auditions from Actors Access, all are self types. If I don't be booked, am I still get in CD’s mind?

When you audition do you know in advance the conditions for that work if you are chosen? Like the timeline/schedule, duration and payment, as well as any traveling or change or appearance involved?
