I remember driving the final Saab model back to the dealership after a show at our local county fair. It felt weird. I knew it was the last model, I was never a Saab fan. It was strange driving the very last model of a car. That car was actually pretty unique compared to everything else I drove that year. Also after years of working in an auto body shop, I can still say the Saturn was one of the easiest cars to work on ever. They were so freaking easy. I actually miss the simple engineering in Saturns. Great cars honestly.
@davidmhh9977
@davidmhh9977 7 ай бұрын
I'd argue that Saturn had the most potential of any of the brands GM axed in 08. Pontiac was more iconic, but just wasn't able to differentiate itself from Chev by the 2000's. Hummer wedged itself into a really narrow niche that wasn't viable during the recession, and Saab also had too narrow of a niche, while also just being too up and down in terms of quality. As for Saturn, it suffered from badge engineering, but at least it's body style made it stand out. It also filled the small economy car niche better than any other GM brand.

Other than the FWD issues and lack of frame rigidity. I put the full Viggen rescue kit on that baby, swapped the turbo for a TD04, viggen intercooler, cobra turbo inlet pipe, stage 1 tune, bilstein shocks.. she was a beast in the end. I miss that car.

Back in 2008 i had a plastic saturn SC2, some guy came up to my window and tried to carjack me. Kicked my door as hard as i could and launched him across the road. Took off, and when i pulled over i looked and my door was so, so badly dented, all i did was bumped the door with my palm a few times and suddenly the door popped right back and there was only some minor wear on the paint

My first car was a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero. It may have been a goofy car, but it was absolutely bulletproof in my experience. I really beat the tar out of that thing and it always just kept on taking it. Great first car even if the company went out of business.

It because the alero was just a cavalier, and like any chevy compact they're hit and miss. I had a 2.2l Cavalier with a 4 speed autobox and exactly zero other features. Bulletproof. People with the 2.4 claimed it ate rocks and died quickly. I had a Chevy Cruze with the 1.4l turbo. It had a coolant leak once and managed to drive itself to the shop pissing a stream of coolant and still managing to hold the gauge solid at normal temp. People with the 1.8l said it ate rocks and died quickly.

@@krishamm2605 It was a very simple car. It had as much as I could ask for in the features department being that it was my first car, and I bottomed out and slammed it and absused it plenty in the years I owned it. As far as im concerned, the Alero and I guess by extension the cavalier was a great car. My buddy had an 04 (I think) cavalier and though he hated its limited featureset, it gave him some rather painless years of driving. worst he ever did with it was ditch it in the winter and even then after pulling it out, just drove home no worries.

I so much enjoyed driving my parents ‘69 Plymouth Satellite 4-door, that I bought a brand new Satellite wagon to haul around my band equipment once I finished college. It cost $3,575 and it took about 3 months for them to manufacture it and ship it to my local Plymouth dealer in NJ. In ‘75 My wife had a sporty Pontiac LeMans she bought used from her brother. She had a heavy foot, and our kids nick-named her Maria ‘Andretti’ (after Mario Andretti of NASCAR fame)
