The origin of Nintendo as a games company is tied to the "Donkey Kong" franchise, so we decided to rank the series! For this list, we’ll be showcasing Nintendo’s great ape and co. from their worst to their best. However, we won’t be including spin-off games or Game & Watch releases. Our countdown includes “Donkey Kong Country” (1994), “Donkey Kong Jungle Beat” (2005), “Donkey Kong Country Returns” (2010), “Donkey Kong Jr.” (1982), and more! Which Kong adventure is your favorite? I really wish Rare would come back for it. I love Retro's take on the series but i miss the variety in gameplay of the snes country trilogy. Retro's games are more action focused but in Rare's games you can feel the heart put into them.

I think Donkey Kong Country 3 is very underrated, I love the bartering system with the bears, hidden banana bird caves, the soundtrack on the SNES was so great it couldn’t be replicated on the GBA (which had its own unique soundtrack), and the open world to explore with the unique vehicles was awesome to explore especially when you found secret areas.

DKC2 is easily my favorite; one of my top 10 favorite games of all time. Tropical Freeze and Donkey Kong 64 are also amazing games that aren't overwhelmingly far behind.

The trilogy in general is better than tropical freeze which has an amazing soundtrack and great level design but controls terribly especially with DK alone and no assist barrels

Tropical Freeze is not even that good, there is a clear bias because it's newer but DKC1 and 2 are far better games.

@@karlcharron3350 The jump mechanic is way worse in the new games. The old games were much more accurate with jumping and movements.

@@DMaster8686 Been a while since I played DKC2 but I don't remember being as elated playing it as I was when playing Tropical Freeze. Every level was more inventive and different than anything I had seen from that series before. Don't remember movement or jumping being problematic. I only remember that the game was a very decent challenge and every cleared stage felt like an actual accomplishment. That said, DKC2 wasn't an easy game either. In the end, top 10 lists are opinionated pieces and there is no clear 'better game'. If you believe there is, I could see you being bothered by any list that does not happen to be the same as yours. Some people here even believe DK64 should be first and that would never make it anywhere close to it in my list (although it does have the best final boss fight in the series). Recency bias IS a thing but Tropical Freeze is 10 years old. Nostalgia bias definitely is also a thing, if not an even more powerful bias.

Great list! For me, my top five Donkey Kong games go: 5. Returns 4. Tropical Freeze 3. Dixie Kong's Double Trouble 2. Country 1. Diddy's Kong-Quest Lot of it I admit is nostalgia, but nothing can beat the fun of the OG trilogy. Not to mention the still beautiful graphics and the AMAZING soundtracks!

Thank you for including the 1994 Gameboy Donkey Kong in the list! That game is criminally underrated and a lot of fun. Of course, the levels get harder and trickier the further you progress, but once you have the right strategies and go through a lot of trial and error, you can beat the game without too much difficulty.

Love the alpine aesthetic of DKC3 and the soundtrack is gorgeous. Unless you're one of those people who despise Kiddy, I think it's as strong a title as any in the series.

That's the aspect I don't like about Tropical Freeze (and actually newer games in general) that they tend to stay much easier and very forgiving. Having 4 hits with both kongs instead of losing one with a hit is insane

Nintendo should remaster both DKC Returns & Yoshi's Wooly World with the DKCR 3D and Poochy & Yoshi's Wooly World content. In DKCR's case, it means making the already gorgeous game even more so in HD plus more control options like on 3DS

I'd love them to take another stab at the idea of racing with Animal Buddies. Looking back, a really good use the Animal Buddies could have had in DK64 is for fast travel. Once you hit a button in certain areas at the "end" or high points of a worl, it activates crates in many areas, and you can use the animals to blaze through areas you've already been in to speed up the game a bit. Imagine being able to use Rambi or Expresso on land to tear around fast, or Engaurde simply to speed through the underwater areas....

Donkey Kong on the arcade literally kick started Nintendo as a video gaming juggernaut. Can't wait to play the GameBoy version because the surprising extra levels after beating the arcade port.

I am actually 100% on board with putting tropical freeze at number one. I would still probably put country 2 at number one myself but tropical freeze would make a very easy second place and it was so good that I’m not even upset at all about swapping them.

I'll agree... Tropical Freeze is peak. As much of a masterclass as DKC2 is... DKCTF has smoother controls, more robust levels, and the soundtrack really is the pinnacle of the series.

I heard that there was a third Donkey Kong arcade game, but I never heard of Stanley the Exterminator. After learning about it, I can see why he is forgotten. Although, if Nintendo makes a new Super Smash Bros. game, it would be interesting if they included Stanley as one of those trophy battle items.

While a great game, Donkey Kong (1994) I don't think should have been included. In a lot of ways it is a precursor to the Mario Vs Donkey Kong series, If you are not going to include those then why this one. Mario Vs Donkey Kong is a like a spiritual remake of this game.

DKC2 is definitely the best Donkey Kong game, no questions asked. That game will always hold a place in my childhood heart! Also, while Donkey Kong ‘94, as it should be called to avoid confusion with the original arcade game, isn’t that more of a Mario game?

I'm happy to agree with your numbers 1 and 2. While getting towards the end of Tropical Freeze, I had to seriously consider if it was the best 2D platformer ever made, then thinking back pretty far, I decided that Super Mario World was still the best, but Tropical Freeze came pretty damn close!

Video spoilers! Paused to comment before the top 2, because I know which ones they are (it's obvious lol), I imagine the ones making this list had a hard time deciding on #1. ... Oh yeah. 100% agree. Only one DK game could top DKC2, it was an absolute masterpiece for its time. But Tropical Freeze was on point. Even the world map was an amazing callback to DKCR, and I love that attention to detail. And a solid final boss.

I've been a HUGE Donkey Kong fan since I can even Remember it in my Childhood in a Super Nintendo, Nintendo DS and Wii Times. Donkey Kong an Original Trilogy of DK Country 1 2 and 3 aren't my Childhood because Super Nintendo wasn't my First Nintendo but We have owned Super Nintendo easily over 30 Years what's older than me but I've Played that Trilogy and my Favourite is Donkey Kong Country 2 because there you Play as Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong what's my Favourite Kong Combo in DK Games. Haven't Played Mario VS. Donkey Kong on Nintendo Gameboy Advance because We Nevee had it but i'm GLAD it's coming for Nintendo Switch Mario VS. Donkey Kong Remake after 20 Years since 2004. About of Gameboy Consoles We only have Gameboy Color and Sp, what DK Games there is for Gameboy Color and Sp? I have been Played Mario VS Doneky Kong Mini-Land Mayhem on Nintendo DS what was my First Handheld and Nintendo Console in my Childhood, that's why I Remember Mario VS Donkey Kong Mini-Land Mayhem Better than Gameboy Advance version, in Mini-Land Mayhem Donkey Kong Kidnapp Mario's an Original Girlfriend Mayor Pauline and one of Charles Martinet's BEST Lines is "HEY, GIVE IT BACK YOU BIG MONKEY!" Donkey Kong Country Returns for Nintendo Wii (what was my First Nintendo Console what you can Connect for a TV) is my First Donkey Kong's own Game what I've Played in my Childhood and I Really like that Game, it's a little bit Hard but it Dosen't Matter, I like Returns Gameplay, Soundtracks, Level Designs, Boss Battles and Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong Combo and it's Nice Diddy Kong have a Rocket Packback in that Game. Tropical Freeze for Nintendo Wii U was one of my First Wii U Games after New Super Mario Bros U, Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8 and The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild in 2014 after 10 YEARS what are my Reasons to Feel an Old only just as 21. Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze is Not Better than Returns but I LOVE in that Game you can Play as 4 Characters Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong and Crangy Kong, Defienitily Diddy Kong and DixieKong are my Favourite DK Characters Combo, Tropical Freeze have an AMAZING Gameplay, Level Designs, Soundtracks, Co-Op with 4 Players Villains defienitily Boss and Boss Battles like a Polar Bear Boss battle. I still have Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze for a Wii U after 10 Years and 6 Years ago it came for a Switch since 2018 where you can Play as Funky Kong, haven't Buyed it yet but someday I'll Buy and Play it for a Switch too. Rarest Donkey Kong Game what I have for Nintendo Gamecube and Kongo Drums is Donkey Kong Jungle, I Don't have Nintendo Gamecube what my Big Brother have but I have that Game, Gamecube Controller, Wii and Wii U, I knowI can Play Gamecube Games for a Wii but can I PlayGamecube Games for a Wii U with Gamecube Controller? Donkey Kong Barrel Blast is a DK Game haven't Never heared Before This video and I Gotta say it looks Really Fun like a Mario Kart Version of Donkey Kong what Diddy Kong Racing is too. I would LOVE to Buy and Play that Donkey Kong Barrel Blast with Nintendo Wii, it's Strange Never heared about of it. But Donkey Kong Games what I've heared about and Hope are coming Back for Nintendo Switch Gameboy Advance and Nintendo 64 Libraries for Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pass System are Donkey Kong King of Swing what Celebrate it's 20th Anniiversary in a Next Year 2025, Diddy Kong Racing Mario Kart Copy of Diddy Kong but aren't there Donkey Kong or Dixie Kong in that Racing Game? And Donkey Kong 64 First 3D Platformer Donkey Kong Game for Nintendo 64 what might Be even Better than Super Mario 64, I've been wanted to Play Donkey Kong 64 for a long Time and Hope it comes for Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pass N64 Library, Hopefully it will Be Relased in a Next Nintendo Direct of Februrary 2024. Donkey Kong have been Missing 6 Years since 2018 so Now's The Time to Bring Donkey Kong Back in Buisness, it's Nice Mario VS. Donkey Kong Game and Donkey Kong Land is coming Super Nintendo World and I Hope a New Donkey Kong Country or Donkey Kong 3D Adventure Game. Like some People wants, Paper Donkey Kong would Be Cool too. Year 2024 will Be The Year of Donkey Kong HO HO HO HOO HO! 🌎🌍🌏🌃🌄🌋🎭🏞🏝🛖🦍🦧🐒🍌🪘🌊🐋🦈⛵️🛶🐻‍❄️🐧🦤🦭🌬❄️

How does DK 1981 outrank DK64 when DK 1981 is IN DK64 and needs to be beaten in it? You literally get DK 1981 with DK64, plus the entirety of DK64.
