Today at the Mystery Shack, we revisit the series that started this very channel - Avatar The Last Airbender. We continue our saga through Book 2: Earth and rank every episode in a Tier List format to determine which is definitely, unquestionably, mathematically, and certainly not just in my opinion, the best one.

I disagree that Toph only embraces neutral Ying is usable when she discovers metalbending. She's blind, and as we have seen in her fights and seismic sense, she ALWAYS waits. Because she has to. She's the Neutral Ying master.

Yeah, Korra is headstrong, stubborn, and already has a rather fiery personality. Of course Earth and Fire would come naturally, and obviously she was born and raised for Water. But she does not start out very in touch with spirituality

I agree with you both. But Korea didn't actually learned air bending at the start. She treated the art as fire bending but with a different alement

@omri.d korra did say that every time she tries airbending, nothing happened. Plus, you're forgetting that avatars mastering elements takes place over years. The only exception was aang, who had a literal fire under his ass, so after korra mastered the other 3 bendings she was good at they were going to Start training her in airbending eventually as there was really no rush to do that as the world was in relative peace compared to aang.

18:45 I know it wasn't treated the same in Korra but air is the seemingly most spiritual element of the 4 which is the part of being the avatar she's always had trouble with growing up so it passes in my book

My fav episode of the series is the library! such a beautiful moment with the realization that there was gonna be an eclipse, that scene was what made me re-watch this series

That tier list seems pretty fair for Season 2 as pretty much all the episodes of Season 2 are all good to wonderful. I think ATLA has 2 or 3 episodes that I might say skip. World/lore building episodes tend to be slow & not as referred but they are very necessary for the big moments

For sure, just like I said in another comment - I think, in terms of quality, Avatar is extremely consistent. Personally, even 10s of rewatches later, I still wouldn't skip even the infamous Great Divide. Though I am EXTREMELY biased towards this series, so that may just be me 😄

I cannot wait for season 3 I do not want it rushed out but I would love to see it soon because if i'm being honest this is the only show you've covered I truly connect with and enjoy so seeing you do your third video is what I am personally waiting for. If you're interested in anything Avatar, believe me when I say that the channel will be flooded with everything Avatar Studios and the Netflix live action version once we get more info on it. 👍 As for the book 3 video - it's in the works, but as I like to approach content with some variety and I'm super stumped for time, it will take a while :)

I love how Iroh uses fire bending inspired by other nations’ bending. The foundation or stance he taught Zukp from Season 1 is based on earth. The lightning redirection’s flow is based on Water. Finally his giant fireball in Season 3 is based on Air with his intense breathing and funneling he does with fire to create it.

This was an incredible video and by far one of the best videos I've seen covering Avatar The Last Airbender. I didn't agree with all of your tier list, but I loved your breakdowns of what you liked in each episode. It really helped me understand where you're coming from, which is the whole point of a such a video format. Upon reflecting on where I'd rank certain episodes, I think I likely enjoy episodes with earthbending action and political complexity more so than episodes with worldbuilding. That being said, I still love a lot of the heavy worldbuilding episodes in Season 2. I wish we got to see Iroh's tea menu. It could've had so many kinds of tea, like jasmine tea, lemon tea, and green tea.

18:46 i think LoK shows that it never had anything to do with the elements and more with the user's personality Aang is completely in line with the teachings and ideals of the Air Nomads and Airbending in general with his calmer, more avoidant, pacifist and spiritually aligned personality Korra on the other hand has a more brash, impulsive, action over planning, materialistic personality which is basically completely in opposition to Airbending and it's teachings and therefore needed to put in more effort and develop throughout the first season to be able to start using airbending. at least that's how i interpreted it after watching LoK even though yeah ATLA did say that it was because Aang was an airbender

Just recently finished Avatar and watched your first video of this kind and now i see this, awesome. And while book 1 was great, book 2 started going into incredible imo Edit after finishing the video: If there is no jasmin tea, Iroh can make lemon tea.

Honestly, I think Avatar is one of the most consistent in terms of quality, so I'd have a very hard time ranking the books themselves. Happy to see new people still watching the series for the very first time! Ohh what I wouldn't give for that experience 😅

Wow I can't believe I missed this video. I can see why this was so tough for you to make. First, it is February of 2023 and I now watch your Attack on Titan retrospective episodes when they come out (we are midway through season 3 atm.) So I found myself constantly thinking about minor points you missed in each episode here, assuming we should have been in "Overanalyzing" territory. Second, it shows how much I absolutely love this show too much that even with your ridiculous handicapping/scaling of the "tier list" format that I kept on thinking that the "lower" episodes should have been higher. Good work taking the lemon of a list format and changing it practically to breaking point to make it fit a group of episodes too good for such a format. As they say, if "life gives you lemons, make lemon tea" 😂 (Uf, that *was* stretched to breaking point...sorry I suck.🤗)

I'm currently rewatching the series and I was definitely crying through The Tales of Ba Sing Se and Appa's Lost Days. Pretty brutal to have those two back to back! I agree with this list for the most part too! Personally I don't think The Tales of Ba Sing Se is quite as good as others say. I think I'd put that one maybe in A or high B tier. Which would bump up Zuko Alone to SSS. It's good for the Iroh and Momo shorts but the other segments are just fine imo. Everything else is really spot on for me.

Limits feel a bit arbitrary. If you have to add them, it makes more sense that they would just be sequential. SSS - 1 MAX SS - 2 MAX S - 3 MAX A - 4 MAX B - 5 MAX

I liked the old rating system better; especially with your "favorite moment" segment at the end of each episode. Also, tier lists are overused. Your design was way better than the boring tier list spectrum

man i lose my shit at tales of ba sing se every time. and to see aang be taken down by someone who isn’t even supposed to be his biggest threat just a few weeks before he’s supposed to save the world is genuinely terrifying when it comes to what that could’ve meant for the series’ future. i absolutely adore zuko alone, i think it’s one of the best episodes in all of media and is hands down the best solo adventure of its nature. but, i have to agree that tales of ba sing se and the crossroads of destiny are purely better episodes in regards to the season and series as a whole

Unpopular opinion but Tales of Ba Sing Se was A Tier at best, I personally feel the whole episode is incredibly boring, and the only redeeming quality is Irohs story, which is why everyone loves it
