This is how I keep the game fresh at nearly 3k hours: Set your base up in the worst place possible, and NEVER destroy your stairs. Destroying the stairs WILL give you security, but it will also quickly bore you.

@@PinkManGuy You're right. It's one of the ironies of the game that it attracts those who like to plan make reasoned decisions and therefore making surviving mundane in the later game.

Can only do a '1-year survival challenge' so many times I just wish there were *_any_* short-form challenges, like "Survive 30 days for rescue' or 'Get to x location across the map'

Do extremely rare loot, start at one of the first spots (can't remember the name sorry) and go around the big cities until you finally reach louisville then clear the giant mall. Got me probably a hundred hours and had many interesting moments, definitely recommend this playthrough.

Its the main reason why i avoid playing the game. It gets depressing fast as it reminds me the futility of life. Not really something i want a game to make me think

i agree, but my respect for the quality of the updates and the bug care balances out my anger and makes me more willing to keep waiting.

They claimed that none of the other further updates would take as long as build 41 did, because they had to recreate the whole combat engine, and update the model into 3D ones, yet, this one is in development since early 2022. And I am feeling that they add totally unnecessary minor updates too, like the fishing or the liquid system, which could wait til other updates. And maybe - but just maybe - if they planning to add such a big update, they should cut into smaller minor updates, where player could get to know with the system, test it, and report the bugs on the get go. Better than releasing the update after 2-3 years, and bugfixing for 1 more year as Build 41 did. Delaying works on further possible updates. Im a bit scared that the NPC update will take so much more time than this one. And stable NPC build would be out in 2027

​@@empat8052with the speed of development we see in this game, it's better to stop thinking about NPCs for now. thinking about NPCs is like you're on a diet and you stash a snack somewhere in the house for a time of need and you hope to forget it to find it later and be happy. but even just 1 day after you stash it you remember where it is and take it out and eat it. i haven't really followed zomboid's development pre-2023, so this may be a harsh and unjust evaluation of its development, but if the game took 11 years to develop to this point and this is what they have to show for, i am a bit underwhelmed. yes b42 sounds huge but i agree that time *was* wasted on some not very much needed mechanics like fluids and color mixing like wtf. if devs have time to focus on trivial stuff like that, then why not make quality of life improvements? vehicle sounds are abysmal. character animations are in the game's code but not functional without mods. like i don't understand what they are trying to work on. they feel all over the place for me. yes i know the game will be great when it's finished but, i hope it finishes before i freakin die you know i'd like to play the finished version before that happens. being proud of your studio's non crunch work environment is very natural. but you should also be able finish your projects. i don't really care about an amazing car that took 30 years to make. i also don't care about a car that took 30 days to design/build/deliver which is completely half baked and terrible either. there is a middle line that the product should aim to be. devs missed that line for this product, to me at least. fingers crossed though. i'm waiting for now

It doesn't help. The world will still feel dead until there are human NPCs. The animals barely have AI. They just roam around mindlessly for the most part.

Also can you imagine some OP character that's in a MP server that's been alive for like 3 years in game, and they only go out into the wilderness with a hunting knife. They come back with a bear pelt and 100+ lbs of Bear Meat (Fresh)

I made an engineer for an online server just so I could make motion sensor aerosol bombs and plant them all over, only to find out that motion sensors don't spawn on multiplayer servers :(

They actually are making a new system that they didn't mention in their list of features and now in hindsight I should have added it in myself, but there will now be wiring and piping for electricity and fluids so you can connect the generator to whatever you want from any distance!

No, just Build 41 has done as much. They used to do small updates. There have been over 40 builds, after all. But they decided it would be better to just release massive content updates, instead of smaller ones that they would have to do bugfixing on for a month.

I wonder how long the "more realistic" farming is going to be. I know it's not realistic how fast crops grow now but in game terms it's still pretty slow, if you actually need crops to grow for 3-4 months idk how viable it is going to be to even bother.
