You guys evidently never played the launch version of Ascension, The Trial of Archimedes section had no heath or magic chests, no checkpoints and hordes of regular enemies, 2,3,4 sub-bosses at a time. Enemy deaths yielded no magic orbs and very few health orbs. Was such a nightmare they patched it, so players could make it through.

I found GOW 2018 harder than ragnarok. Mainly cause in 2018 you ONLY have the leviathan axe at the beginning (which I never liked using) and it seems like it takes FOREVER just to kill the small time enemies like the draugr. In ragnarok you get the axe and the blades from the get go and then gameplay gets even easier when you get the spear. Also in 2018 I was not used to the combat being drastically slowed down

God, Titan, and Chaos mode from the Original Trilogy are hella harder than the Norse reboot even on Give Me GOW difficulty. Mainly because you do not compensate for the difficulty by upgrading your stats/equipment to balance the damage.

the older games are far more difficult in my opinion. granted i didn’t play them until about 2 years ago i found the old style of mechanics to be much more challenging to operate with than that of the newer games

Feel like you guys just played them on normal difficulty and never tried them on the hardest difficulty. This list is a little questionable if that's the standard of measurement.

I played 4 ragnarok 1 chains of Olympus 3 ghost of Sparta and I don’t know how the newer games are most difficult. 1 to me is the hardest lots of people can’t even beat the hydra with the button mashing and Minotaurs last game are almost impossible. The puzzles the traps the spiked tower two of them in hades realm can have people die for hours and make you rage quit. I have 1 as the hardest and won’t go through it again. Ghost of Sparta have no issues and chains of Olympus was easy minus the light puzzle.

I 100% completed all GoW games and the hardest one to 100% was ascensions because I had to buy an online pass to play the multiplayer tutorial. Just imagine the hoops you have to do to buy something on the PS3!

Personally i’ve only played GOW 2018 and ragnarok and if we are only talking the main story i think i’d say GOW 2018 is probably harder in general but i found both quite easy

2018 is harder than Ragnarok, but both games are easier than the older games. The only difficult part is the side bosses (Valkyries and Berzerkers)

Number one Ragnarok???? I pass most of the main bosses in my first try on give me god of war mode. The Berserkers are hard but nothing compared to the Valkyries. Having to fight the one in the poison area was super annoying & the volcano one & of course the last one.

Challenge of Archimedes in ascension was hell

I played Ascension on launch in harder difficulty and that Archimedes challenge in the elevator was so brutal that they patched it later. I managed to pass like days before it was patched. Theseus, the translator and the endurance before Clotho on titan mode in GoW 2 was insane. Cerberus with satyrs in front of the judges and Hades on chaos mode in GoW 3 was very, very hard. In GoW 2018 Sigrun is a nightmare. And in Ragnarok Gná and the viking king on hard almost costed my platinum.

Ascension is the hardest imo. The trial of archimedes is pain. It took me 30+ tries to beat it on hard. You have to become a master at parrying the gorgons if you want to succeed. It was one of the few moments in videogames that I really felt stuck, this and the ludwig fight in bloodborne.

Try beating all gow 1 (2005) challenges. That seemed to be one of the hardest for me.

God of War 2018 and Ragnarok are cake walks compared to the original triology. The only difficulty about those two were the Valkyries in 2018.

Guys play every game in highest difficulty. then you will understand that there is nothing more ridiculous than the clone war in god of war 1 and first translator in god of war 2

All of these games are one and done for me playing at a level lower from the hardest difficulty. I remember having trouble fighting the Valk from the air posioned maze section but I beat the Valk queen in second try compared to my countless deaths I've experienced fighting against the berserker duo and trio. Heimdall was a little tricky but it didn't take me long to figure out how to beat him. So I guess Ragnarok was way harder for me because of the berserkers.

God of War 2 is by far the hardest One on the hardest difficulty (btw i finished all God of War games on the hardest mode)

Played them all besides the text based one and the phone one. To this day nothing infuriates me more than challenge of Hades and realm of Hades in GOW 1

This list is kinda dumb. To me, Ghost of Sparta was way harder on hard difficulties then GoW2 and 3. That's because almost all the enemies use spam grabbing moves thats hard to avoid and does decent chucks of damage. I replay the series so many times and GoS is the only GoW game to have enemies that have so many unblockable grabs. Also Ragnarok is the easiest out the bunch. I beat Odin, Thor, and Heimdall all on first try

Am I the only one who thinks Heimdall was the easiest boss in the past two games. Like he wasn't really a challenge, even on Gmnm and gmgow, I thought he was really easy and I was kind of disappointed. I was hoping for a tougher challenge with him. I do think based off of weaponry, gow 2018 was more challenging. But I'm not even mad, the spear is amazing and goes so well with kratos being the ghost of Sparta. I'm on my third playthrough, I love this game and the whole series so much.

I have played on very hard mode on all series. Gameplay wise I found God if war 1 and 3 very difficult. GOW 2018 was difficult only because of shitty camera or else it could have been relatively easier

I know I'm 9 months late. But I also have my list from the easiest GOW games to the hardest. Keep in mind that I haven't played all of them. So Betrayal and That Typing Facebook dialogue options game won't be on here. Neither will any expansions. So Ragnarok's Valhalla will also be excluded. So here we go. 1: GOW Chains of Olympus. This game was easy to platinum let alone play. It did start out a little hard on God mode. But once you get the shield and the gauntlet early on or upgrade your Blades of Chaos, it becomes way simpler. The bosses were alright. But nothing to write home about and some of them are an absolute cakewalk when you realize Defensive parring breaks them in half. So yeah. Pretty casual friendly game if you ask me. I'm someone who says Git Gud Scrub. 2: GOW Ghost of Sparta. This game isn't much harder than Chains of Olympus. It has more dynamic bosses that makes the battles more interesting. More enemies to compliment the new deflection parring attacks. You're dealing with more enemies in numbers. But outside that, it's mostly on par with Chains of Olympus. And if there's one thing a GOW game should be on any Difficulty, it's hard or at least a steep learning curve. If you played any of the games up until this point, you'll probably think the PSP games were made for Baby casuals only. 3: GOW Ascension. The game that was responsible for the new direction of the Nordic games. Really at this point, the GOW formula was at it's peak. Ascension just tried to take what worked in the original games and dumb it down. It does have some of my favorite bosses. Not going to lie. And you do deal with way more enemies than you have in any of the early GOW games up until that point. Ascension's not a bad game though. It just has a black mark on the legacy of the series because it was an irrelevant prequel no one asked for. In that regard, it's shallow and the tagged on and now defunct multiplayer is part of the reason it kinda failed. 4: GOW3. This was the conclusion of the series. I final epic Battle with Greek God Zeus. This one had one of the hardest segments in any game. The Labyrinth. Of course you got the tricky puzzles, Traversal, Traps that can kill you in a moment's notice, and the most enemies it'll throw at you. Playing on Chaos mode is a fun time. Best part is enemies are just as subseptible to taking damage as you are. This makes the game really fun and really engaging. I like it. 5: GOW 2018. This one's a weird one. I almost like it. But it had a bit of a rough start. First you walk around, then it throws a small number of enemies at you. Then you walk some more. Get introduced to the Trolls. Initially a good start until you realize that the trolls are recycled like 20 times throughout the game. If it wasn't for the amazing main story bosses and the Valkyries, I wouldn't be ranking this. GOW 2018 is fairly challenging in the mini and main story bosses. Otherwise the enemies it throws at you would make easier than here. 6: GOW Ragnarok. This game fixed most of my issues I had with the last game. Added more enemies to fight that were up to the challenge, got rid of the trolls mostly. But amped up the bosses. Thor, Heimdall, Odin, Freya, Hell even that fight with Agraboda's Grandma was interesting despite the fact that it's on my least favorite part of the game. The Atreus segments. The puzzles are also nice change of pace. Even though the NPCS spoil them and I hate that. But all and all, pretty good. 7: GOW2. Ahh my favorite GOW game in the series and the second to last one I get the most replay from. GOW2 definitely has very light handholding in it. By that, I mean it wants you to figure out the puzzles yourself. The level design is so unique. A lot of the enemies you'll be facing in numbers and solving hard puzzles. Sometimes it's a combination of the two. Upgrade those weapons, master the parry skill, become an unstoppable badass. If you definitely want a challenge, play it on Titan difficulty. That will complete change the way you play. When people ask for tips on these games, I say Git Gud. 8: GOW1. And now we're at in my opinion is the hardest GOW game to date. Constant fight after fight. Almost no time to breath. Hey you just fought these Minotaurs? Well now you have to deal with these spike balls Cyclops. Oh you fought these puppers that turn into Cerberus, well you have these trolls with spike sticks. Oh and right after, let's throw archers at you. You always have to be on guard at all times. Don't let up. Upgrade to your heart's content and make sure you don't rage too hard at the Hades level. Pretty much the hardest GOW game ever. There's my list. That's all I think.

I’ll you right now, idk how the newer difficulty compare, but God of war 1, is very Easy outside of the Ares fight if your on hard, and God of war 3 is a bit challenging, but God of war 2 was def the most challenging of the 3.

Ragnarok the hardest? Ha this must be a joke. Great story but as a game it was like a day in the kindergarten. I played it in Give me a challenge and didn’t get the challenge I expected. Only hard part about that game are the berserkers and the Valkyrie queen which are still not as challenging as the valkyries in the prequel. I wish the next entry in the franchise will be difficult like god of war 3 which is def the most difficult game in the series without a doubt

Sorry but Kratos is leagues above all Norse Gods so that statement of them being on par with Kratos is not true. Throughout the game Kratos holds back, its not only until he uses his rage (which is what his past self was constantly as in what gave him true unmatched strength) that he turns back to his past self going all out and he WRECKS
