actually, 2d knows to play MANY instruments previously working in an instrument shop so him having a guitar isnt farfetched. we've seen him do melodica, piano, guitar, banjo, and ukelele.

I think the one pro of the Now Now cover is that its at least recognizable. When I hear a song from the Now Now, I always think of the cover. When I hear a song from Song Machine, I just think of that one image where Russel’s playing the trumpet and Noodle has that tiger suit.

I think 2D playing the guitar was even better fitting for the Now Now album since it was all about him kinda taking on this new persona and role since Murdoc was in prison. It makes sense he’s playing an instrument he’s not used to since he’s playing a role he’s not used to.

I can understand your dislike for Noodles design in phase 1 and the reason you dislike Noodles head for Song Machine is for the same reason, but for her SM head I never viewed it as that and saw it as her closing and scrunching her eyes because she's smiling, especially with how the lines for her closed eyes are curved, it just communicates that more to me. Brilliant video though, keep it up!

The whole island being a character is exactly how I felt, which is why it’s phase in the lore is my favorite, and when it got destroyed in The Lost Chord I actually felt genuine pain especially since it’s been so long since we saw it

i kinda like to headcanon that in song machine noodle may have caricatured herself along with all the other members but yeah im still not a fan, and her design in phase 1 has no excuses, especially the one where her head is partially shaved

I actually love G-sides its very that early 2000’s city street aesthetic that i like. The only thing I don’t like about it is Noodle’s phase 1 design which is a general thing about the whole phase.

This is the first video of yours that I've watched and I've had to pause at 14:42 because the DHMIS soundbyte tipped me over the scale of needing to praise you: Firstly, I love that I'm understanding all the references in the "Number x" cards, and especially the DHMIS one obviously as said above. Secondly, I'm very happy that you are a The Fall enjoyer. I adore The Fall despite it's quirks and it made me happy to see you defending its honour (I'm gonna just to your album ranking video after this so I can hear more of your thoughts on it there). Thirdly, I love that you made the comparison to The Now Now being a sequel to The Fall because that was my instant first impression when the album came out in 2018. Fourthly, I just wanted to say that you put my thoughts about Plastic Beach into words in a way I've never quite been able to before. Calling the location a character in itself and the main character of Phase 3 is such a good way to think of it and I'm shocked I never have before as it's my favourite album and phase. I think that's it for now, but I'm loving your vibe and agreeing with so many of your takes so I'm feeling safe to assume I won't regret subscribing and checking out your other Gorillaz videos.

I am going to defend the The Now Now cover. I think it's alright. Nothing more than that. I do agree stylistically is off, but it works in other ways. First of all, 2D is supposed to be somewhat of a stand in for Damon, at least in theory. That specific album being a 2D heavy project was also because it was actually also a heavy Damon project. Or to me it feels that way. Most of it, again for me, reads like Damon Albarn expressing themes and topics close to his point of view. I can't help but think that it kind of reminds me of Everyday Robots' cover, but translated into a trippy Gorillaz style. Now phase wise, my interpretation is 2D being on the very very front but being disoriented about this position, especially with the absence of Murdoc at play. Him being a distorted image, with an "unfamiliar" instrument seems to make sense about how, despite him seeming confident and on charge, there are still things he has to figure out.

Ngl, seeing that I'm not the only one who really appreciate The Fall's greatness makes me feel happy, the album cover is fire!

I honestly really love cracker island and the now nows covers 😪🤣 I get the complaints for both though, I just love the Pink and Blue of the now now (plus the wavy psychedelic nature) and I love the way murdoc is being held up by a string in cracker islands

I don't really disagree with any of your ranking except for the fall. One of the main reasons I didn't like the album is because I really didn't like the cover. Despite thinking the Now Now's cover being lack luster I genuinely believe it's the best album overall. Demon Dayz and Plastic Beach are fantastic, but just based on how I can listen to the entire album through endlessly without skipping a single track makes it so good for me. I wish I liked more of what's on Song Machine because Aries is so good I just want to like the album more.

really surprised that people seem to dislike the cover of the now now! i think it's gorgeous tbh. granted, that's the phase that i got into gorillaz & 2d is my favorite character, but i just love the color palette and the warped design. i feel like the warping & layering of the image fits in so well with the sort of distorted vibe of the album

I love everything about The Fall. it was my first vinyl ever, and my mom bought this instead of Plastic Beach, because she loved this drawing way more. before I got the vinyl I never heard that album, and I fell in love with it in the matter of seconds. also Revolving doors and Amarillo were the first song I learned on ukelele and guitare. so it holds a special place in my heart.

Maaan I just don’t get why so many ppl hate Cracker Island’s cover art. It’s one of my favourites, from the pinkish-purple colour tones to the composition, I think it fits the vibe so well. Especially w/ my translucent purple variant. Plus the back cover just makes me love the front even more. I may have occult-vibe bias but yh, I dig it. I do completely agree w/ you on The Now Now. I hate the waAaRPed effect & why is 2D holding a guitar??? 🤷‍♂️ Love the art for The Fall. I feel like Jamie should’ve done something similar for the Now Now as it’s clearly the summer counterpart to The Fall (The Fall’s a better album ..don’t lynch me Gorillaz fans. ..deep down you know I’m right) Personally not a fan of Humanz’ cover, looks too weird for me, I’d rather have a 3D render closer to what they had in the Stylo vid or Cracker Island singles. Plastic Beach is #1 for me tho, cover-wise. It’s just so iconic, memorable & just generally pretty to look at while you’re spinning the record.
