Eda's smile animation when helping Luz cast the shield and when asked where magic comes from itches my brain so good

Raine quietly whistling Eda‘s Requiem even though they were practically dying and couldn’t fight Belos off anymore was so brutal to me, I was WEEPING

Just a few things I think are missing: - (AOAW) When the shadow figure in Edas nightmare turns into Lilith - (EOTP) Hooty spewing out potions like a machine gun - (HP) Belos punching a wall as goop man - (TTBK) Young Raine doing like a leg sweep for a spell circle during the covens against wild witches game - (COTH) The intro bit with the collector - (WAD) Eda doing her staff swirl as she comes out of her head masters door

Of course I love that Eda and Lilith rebuilt their relationship and are on good terms now but lowkey I miss their fight scenes they were always so epic lol

I love it when shows like this randomly decide to abuse the animation budget

We'll probably never know enough to say for sure, and Dana did say it was the only option she would want to choose, but I really feel like this show was held back by disney TVA... The budget held back the animation and story, as well as having to tone stuff down to be presentable to a child audience, not even mentioning the shortened third season... I really wish we could live in a world where we could see EXACTLY what Dana would've made if she could do exactly what she wanted. But I guess these clips and some of the art she's uploaded are pretty dang close to what we would've gotten anyways, so thats a plus!

5:33 In that scene there's almost an imperceivable switch to the fight animation style. It's really a blink and you miss it kind of thing. For me it was the very subtle movement of his head & hands and the very slight extra detail in the shading that tipped me off that there was going to be a fight. Very impressive.

I love how whenever the animation gets smoother its slightly closer to Dana’s personal style. Not that the show and her style are all that different

The way Eda puffed up when she smiled after Luz asked where magic comes from gave me such Ghibli vibes. Same when Owl Beast Eda was chasing King - looked straight out of Spirited Away like when No Face chased Chihiro. Absolutely breathtaking and talented artists

You’ve gotta love how smooth animation mostly appears in fighting scenes….and lumity scenes. It is like an unspoken rule that big lumity moments must be as smooth or as shocking as possible.

Luz's rush to the heart scene actually made me say: "Behold: The Budget" when rewatching it with my friend today.

Im pretty sure the reason the animation smoothness increases the majority of the time is because with fight scenes, they have to make more frames to smoothen it out, hence why it's more smooth. And then they're the important parts that they have to make pop out, so it's more smooth. Just my take on it, I don't know the real reason. edit: guys when I made this comment I didn't really want to be corrected, I had just wanted to say what I thought. I'm an animator myself, though I don't show it, and when im making fighting scenes theyre usually smoother for me. I get this is not the same thing with everyone, and I'm sorry if I offended you because of it. everyone has different things, and this was just how I saw it.

Hunter vs amity still might be my fave fight but that last episode was so gorgeous all round

Every Eda/Lilith fight, every Hunter fight, the Amity/Luz dance, the Eda/Raine melody, every time Willow stops holding back, and Titan Luz are my absolute favourite moments in this video.

You can just tell how dedicated the animation team was to making this show look amazing 8:03 Also that little moment of Eda showering Raine in smooches may be one of the cutest things I've ever seen 🥺

The thing that really got me into this show was the fighting it was so good and pleasing to look at they did a great job on animation in those sceens

The Owl House is always gonna be really special to me because, while I've always loved animation, scenes like these taught me to UNDERSTAND animation

I do believe the main 3-4 animators used for smooth shots like these are: Spencer Wan with Season 1 He owns an anime based studio and professionalizes in the field! Season 2 was Tom Barkel, a mainly Flying Bark Studio's animator but he gets around. The main exception to him being oriented with S2 is specifically 4:08 Dana herself animated that bit. S3 Also had a bit of Tom Barkel, As well as Husain Untoro for the finale! Husain Untoro get's around a lot too, from Netflix to Riot to Dreamworks. Also animated on Helluva Boss a little bit!

It's interesting to see how the abilities and powers of characters changed over the course of the series, either due to character growth or events in the show. (Eda and Lilith loosing their magic, hunter gaining an actual palisman, amity and the others getting stronger, etc.)

i think i just started noticing the smooth animation during the lumity kiss, the possessed hunter scene, when luz started pulling belos, and the hunter and willow scene during the end credits i love toh man im so sad it ended

OK WAIT HEAR ME OUT- I've never been a huge Huntlow shipper, because I always headcannoned them both as aroace, BUT. Seeing them in the finale changed my mind a bit as I do think they'd be cute together. However, I still think they're both asexual (don't experience sexual attraction) and I believe in a round about way that Dana may have confirmed this. Huntlow was something Dana was excited about from the start, as we see in an interview when she couldn't stop herself from reacting when someone asked about the ship (even though it was spoilers). And yet, she didn't give them a kiss scene, or even a kiss on the cheek. Even with a shortened show, she could have added a small kiss near the end or even in the time skip (since by that time it's clear theyve been in a relationship for a few years). But she didn't. Instead, she gave us a cute little hug between them with *smooth animation*. When's another time we've seen smooth animation? Lumity kiss. And yet she didn't give Huntlow a kiss scene, just a nicely animated scene of Willow catching Hunter before he fell. I believe that this may hint to them having an asexual relationship, as some asexual people don't engage in more physical acts like kissing. (Notice that I say *some*. I myself am asexual and enjoy kissing, cuddling, and I want to be in a romantic relationship. Even though I'm sex-repulsed) Even if they do kiss as a part of their relationship, I still think the reason she didn't include it was for the purpose of hinting that they might be ace. It's a stretch, I know. Also, this show is my special interest, Hunter is my comfort character, and I project onto my favorite characters a lot, so I will admit that I'm probably biased, but still-I think it'd be cool if that was the case. DISCLAIMER: THIS IS A HEADCANON. I am not in any way trying to insinuate that if you do not kiss in a relationship you're automatically asexual. People have different preferences for PDA regardless of their sexuality! This is just my interpretation :)

KINGS AND LUZ'S SQUICK IS SO CUUTE

The animation team really put their heart into those few special scenes, they just have so much life and detail! I can’t imagine how amazing it would be if the whole show were like that (even though that would be sooooo much more work for them)

I swear the animation in the last episode was the smoothest I’ve seen all seasons since the intro. Like is A grade, movie quality smoothness. They DID NOT HOLD BACK.

A few of these moments (like hunter being possessed by belos fight scene, lumity kiss, luz ripping belos away from the titan, and some others) were animated by this AMAZING Australian animator called Tom Barkel. he's worked on many amazing shows, including TOH (obviously), Amphibia, and Rise of the TMNT (and the movie). He's absolutely amazing. I really just wanted to put a name to some of these shots.

There are two things they do smooth animation for 1: Fight scenes that need the extra frames 2. Romance moments

This show will forever be in my heart since it's technically changed my life. Originally I thought that the show would be so basic because(C'mon, Disney changed so much) it really opened anything inside me that made me open up about my sexuality or anything else, It made me feel like it was something to cope with and it understood me like how Luz was. it made me understood the character and all the characters around her who had depth and made me have respect for them. And the voice actors behind them gave it their all for this final touch. THANK YOU OWL HOUSE FOR EVERYTHING.

god i’ll miss this shows beautiful animation & visuals so much

its always so fun trying to tell who animator is who, i can always tell Dana animated some of the frame because she has the iconic speedy comics line in her animation and is so great at animating speedy object. You can really see it kick in hunter fight scene since he is one speedy boy and her timing on frame is so good, especially in capturing hunter desperation in his movement. And Tom Barkel has a great sense of consistency in his animation, he has great understanding of space too. His animation style is very reminiscent of the way studio trigger would animate action in animation. it has so much going on but you can still tell what we should focus on because tom barkel also has a great way to make sillhoutte of shape thats easy to register by our brain detection thingy, for example in hunter fight he literally put in so much iconic frame scene that would have hunter poses in such a cool way that could just be a standalone drawing if it could tbh.

So beautiful. The Titan-Luz sakuga gives us chills each time we watch it!!

Fun fact cartoons like this tend to be animated on 2s so that they can be produced faster. Owl house will change its animation from 2s to 1s in a very smooth way which is why the fight scenes are gorgeous.

If anyone's wondering animator names, I recognize at least 3 of them Most of the season 1 clips are animated or storyboarded by Spencer Wan (storyboards are, for scenes like this, a rough version of the animation so it's almost the same thing) He made the first two clips from the intro, all the opening clips, basically every clip shown from ep 1, 4, 5, 16, and 18 (he also boarded the scene of inner willow in ep 15) not 100% sure if he worked on the clips in the finale though. Unsure who made the clips in 2x6 and 7, but Dana herself made the fight in 2x9, I think the clip after was a very short Spencer Wan bit, and the rest is unknown until the Lumity Kiss, which is Tom Barkel, as well as every clip after that until the scene where Camila and Luz are talking. Unsure who did all the Titan Luz scenes, but a lot of the parts look like Spencer Wan's style so I assume he did some work. The part where eda and luz spin around together looks like Dana's style so that could be her. Then it's more unknown until Luz starts running up to Belos, where Tom Barkel comes back in full force for the finale. Great stuff by everyone involved!
