It looks slow, but it is the same speed. I think whoever was in the suit (Dave Prowse or Bob Anderson, the latter more likely) just lifted the prop much slower which makes it look like a delayed ignition since the effects were what it was at the time. But yeah, still the best one in the franchise (if we exclude Rogue One and Rebels… or RotJ when Luke and Vader cross swords).

I know Rise of Skywalker isn't a great movie, but the moment in the cave when Rey ignites her lightsaber and then Poe switches on his flashlight and kinda stares dejectedly at it for a second will never not be funny.

They tend to sound different too depending on the light or dark side. When Anakin takes Obi-WAN’s blue lightsaber to fight Dooku, it lights up sounding like a Sith blade. When Anakin was saving his mother, it lit up like a Jedi’s saber, despite acting on feelings of the dark side, regardless of the color, it tends to light up with a different sound depending on where they are with the Force. And in that scene where Anakin is about to kill the youngling’s, it sounds like how a sith blade would.

There are two Jedi ignition sounds, while a Sith sound. Kylo ren’s saber, Ashoka’s white sabers, and the dark saber have their exclusively unique sounds

Some scenes for anakin's lightsaber has the sith ignition sound in the sequels tho.. guess they made that a mistake , which is forgivable since its a fan fiction :)

Can we take a second to appreciate how good the sound design for Ezra’s two different lightsabers is?? The two renditions of his saber have probably got to be my favorite sounding sabers in all of Star Wars, or at least top 3. Ahsoka’s white sabers and Luke’s green saber in ROTJ are probably my other two favorites

@@Calibo999 This is just my personal opinion, but I see her as a Skywalker because she felt connected to Leia. Luke? Not so much. Last Jedi really ruined a lot of stuff including Luke. But Leia took Rey under her wing and helped her. I feel that if Luke or Leia had lived, they would have been ok with it. Plus, why should Rey be stuck with the last name of someone she didn't even know? That's just me

The lightsaber sound effects from the Prequel Era, Clone Wars Era and Original Era are my favorite ones. So satisfying, intimidating and cool as hell. I love how the darksaber sounds uniquely different from the ordinary vanillla lightsabers, It shows and proves that it really is an ancient relic of The Old Republic Era.

No doubt about it. For me, Luke's green lightsaber had the best ignition. Soon as he activated it, you hear that iconic whine and you knew someone was getting their a*s handed to them. The fight over the sarlacc set the tone

One thing the Disney era truly can't be faulted for is it's sound design. So many awesome things from the lightsabers, Kylo's voice, Palpatine speaking in TROS, the lightning storm at the end of TROS, the jetpack sounds in The Mandalorian.

Scrolling down to find this comment… how do you animate that and not notice… I could understand in live action if a saver prop casts a shadow but animation 😐I thought the first thing they would do was make sure lightsaber models had shadows turned off.

I think lightsabers do cast shadows, and it makes sense really, if the "natural light" is brighter than the saber, but the saber absorbs the light, then it would cast a shadow

When Darth Maul ignites his for the double blade and when Yoda does his those are the 2 best ones cause maul you didn’t expect to be a double blade and we always wondered how yoda would do with a lightsaber and I can say I will never underestimate Yoda in this franchise.

One thing that would greatly benefit Star Wars is each character having a more unique sound, like Stand sounds in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Lore-wise it could be explained that the Kyber Crystal is reacting to the person who's wielding the weapon. EA Star Wars Battlefront 2 has some cool unique sounds for the character's Lightsabers. That's where I got the idea from.
