Loved the video man also happy to see A senile animal so high up on the list it’s imo the Melvins at their best. Lysol is my number one but Bullhead makes perfect sense it’s the album that got me into the Melvins.

I heard Houdini about a decade back, thought it was cool but nothing special. Last week, I heard Ozma and Bullhead for the first time, and when Your Blessened ended, I felt that this song made all other "regular" bands seem unimaginative. Thanks for the ranked list. I will use this as a guide in my Melvins journey.

Not a bad ranking... Electroretard definitely, don't agree with Prick, Freak Puke, Honky, Hostile Ambient Hostile Takeover... BUT, FINALLY somebody who likes The Maggot (My FAVORITE one)!

Switch Ozma with Lysol and it's a pretty solid list. Ozma and GPT both deserve top 10 spots, but since Ozma technically contains GPT also, might as well put Ozma in the top 5.

A shame they haven't made a decent album since 2010. I consider Nude with Boots their last good record. If I would make a list with must listen albums: Bullhead and Lysol (sludge/drone), Houdini and Stoner Witch (grunge), the Maggot (metal), Hostile Ambient Takeover and Pigs of the Roman Empire (noise rock) and a Senile Animal (double drums). Honorable mention: Stag (experimental).

Well done video all around. I agree with the majority of the ranking you came up with, Bullhead is the legit #1 and GPT and Stag are rightfully ranked at the top. A few choices I don't quite agree with: Honky should be higher, admittedly it takes several spins to get into, but once it clicked for you, you will definitely appreciate this masterpiece. Ozma is ranked a bit too low for me, while Hold It In, Sausages and the two later albums with the BB guys are ranked quite too high. Hold It In really has some pretty annoying moments, Sausages is just not very representative for the band's typical sound and the two latter BB albums... NWB gets noticeably weaker towards the end and Bride Screamed Murder has too many filler tracks for my taste.

Ok. So I have long considered them at the top of my favorite bands. I had a hard time saying they're my favorite band...because SURELY a TRUE fan would love all the albums. It was cool to hear that a bunch didn't connect for you either...and I agreed with many assessments.

It might sound like blasphemy but ozma is ranked lower for me lol. I can definitely appreciate it's value and I don't dislike any of it but the production on it just sounds a bit lackluster to me compared to their other work. (also, Stag is my favorite of the Atlantic trilogy.)

Everybody's an opinion. But wow- you ranked Honky lower than Basses Loaded and the Jelvins discs? Myself, would put Honky at least in the top 15. And I def prefer Ozma over Gluey. Glad to see Sausages getting some love., and too dig Hold it in. Bullhead rules. Houdini is good, but I don't think it would make my top ten. And HAT is a beast of an album, worthy of love. Glad you ranked Senile so highly. Cheers.

Now you should do a ranking the Butthole Surfers’ discography. My personal ranking: #8: piouhgd (1991) The album is very confusing and also forgettable, even by Butthole Surfers standards. It tries to mix avant-garde with hardcore punk and neo-psychedelia but it fails on every level and it all sounds rushed and out-of-place. This would be their last album before signing with Capitol Records. #7: Weird Revolution (2001) As the title suggests, this album is very weird indeed. However, unlike “pioughd”, it actually sounds more focused and well-crafted. Mixing alternative rock with hip-hop and electronica, it sounds like it would be a solid Butthole Surfers album, although it’s unlikely that any OG fan of the band would ever recommend this album to anyone who are trying to get into the band. I will say this, though, “The Shame of America” and “Dracula from Houston” are some of the band’s best songs from their mainstream era. #6: Electriclarryland (1996) Obviously, this album needs no introduction as it is the band’s most commercially successful album in their entire discography. But, let it be known around this time, the band were criticized by OG fans, claiming them to be “sellouts”. This album, along with their previous album, Independent Worm Saloon, are where the whole “mainstream sellout” ordeal came out. Nonetheless, Electriclarryland is still a good album with some great tracks, including their most popular track "Pepper". This is the album that is likely to be recommended to beginners who are looking into the band, as the band's original sound is hard to get into for most people. #5: Independent Worm Saloon (1993) Speaking of mainstream sellout, this was the album started it all. This was actually the album got into them, mostly thanks to the song “Who Was In My Room Last Night?” the band’s first song that brought them into the mainstream. The album itself is pretty good and it has some catchy tunes. Much like Electriclarryland, it is likely that this album would be recommended to beginners. #4: Rembrandt Pussyhorse (1986) The band’s second album, this was one of the band’s earliest releases back when they were signed to highly influential independent label Touch and Go Records, a label that was dedicated to experimental music and hardcore punk. This album, while still being a fan favorite, or not, depending on your point of view, and much like the band’s earlier albums, is unlikely to be recommended by anyone who are interested in getting into the band. #3: Psychic… Powerless… Another Man’s Sac (1984) The album that started it all for the band. It is raw, unbridled, and unpredictable, like you’d expect from early Butthole Surfers. There’s really no need for me to explain any further. #2: Hairway to Steven (1988) It obvious the album title is a play-on words of the song “Stairway to Heaven” by legendary rock band Led Zeppelin. The reason why the album is rated so high needs no explanation: This album, much like the next album on this list, is a fucking masterpiece. It is weird and all over the place. Do I need to mention anything further? Also, songs like “I Saw an X-Ray of a Girl Passing Gas” and “Rocky” are some of the best Butthole Surfers songs ever made. #1: Locust Abortion Technician (1987) Of course this album would be at #1 on this list. This is probably, if not, THE best Butthole Surfers album in their entire discography. Much like their other albums from the 80s, this album needs no introduction. This album is trippy as fuck and it shows. The songs are unhinged, very psychedelic, and devoid of any mainstream creativity, coming from an artistic perspective and that’s what makes this album so great and unique in every way possible. Also, their song “Sweet Loaf” will forever be the best Butthole Surfers song ever made because it’s literally their own wacky parody version of “Sweet Leaf” by Black Sabbath and the intro to the song is absolutely hilarious and random.

hey, nice take on a great bands catalouge .... But now i have to ask, you said you think history of bad men possibly was their best song ever ... I seen this, and I wonder why, and .... i guess its possibly their most available in terms of soumding pretty standard and straight forward ... I will have to take a listen because i have skipped it when I played the reckord, but it feels like one of those songs that everyone that ever heard melvins has signed an agreement to where ....haha so now whats |wrong here ...... nothing much .... but hold it in is way to high diewctly under STAG? thats just not ok, =) No send that and freakpuke down to the bottom under 3 men and a baby .... and i reccomend giving both walk with love and death .... and try the jello reccords again .... im glad i did thats what i think i think ... Their best song, I have to say instant larry .... a crazy rare song that only is on a movie soundtrack --- from Demon knight (1996) Now its available here on youtube, someone succedeed slip it through the cracks in copyrights algoritm .....i i have tried a number of times with diffrent versions and other soundcompression ... but now its back after only been available as vinyl and cd on ebay and discogs

I don’t agree with this lineup, but that’s expected. Senile is a great album. I’m so tired of listening to history of bad men.. so many other way better songs! Going to look for the demon knight cd myself now that you bring it up!

Prick and Honky had me questioning my taste in music. They're both unlistenable. It actually made me angry with the band like they fucking duped me into buying CD's that I had to wind up dumping. I should have held onto them as they're both worth some money these days. Anyhow, these are my top 5 from Melvins: 1. Stag 2. Stoner Witch 3. A Senile Animal 4. Hold It In 5. Tres Cabrones. A Senile Animal would have been number one but the album's production is kind of shit and sounds way too tinny when blasted on a stereo. I can't deny the greatness of some of those tracks though.
