Join us as we explore the majestic 1939 Beechcraft Staggerwing - the unrivaled queen of the 1930s skies. A marvel of engineering with its unique negative staggered wings and Pratt & Whitney 985 nine-cylinder, 450 horsepower engine, the Staggerwing was a symbol of luxury and performance.
Our special guest, Tom from Westfall Aviation, will guide us through a detailed exploration of this exquisite aircraft. After eight long years of painstaking restoration work, this Staggerwing not only flies once again but has also taken home the coveted gold Lindy at EAA Oshkosh!
In this video, you'll get an up-close look at the Staggerwing's unique features. We'll talk about the significance of the staggered wings, the roomy cabin designed to comfortably seat five, and the Hamilton Standard constant-speed propeller. You'll also get to see the retractable landing gear and hear about the impressive efforts it took to source period-correct Goodyear tires.
So buckle up, aviation enthusiasts, for a detailed walkthrough of the grand Staggerwing, the private jet of the 1930s.

I took a photo of that gorgeous plane at Sun n' Fun this year and am currently waiting on the delivery of the print to hang on my wall with other icons of the air! Such an amazing piece of art!

WAIT!!!!! You take off with full propeller pitch and then flatten it out in flight????? Is that what you meant to say? Holy crap a centrifugal starter! Also: Negative stagger does indeed provide an aerodynamic advantage in that Negative stagger reduces the ill-effect of the top wing disturbing the lower wings airflows. Negative stagger is quite aerodynamically advantageous! This was an Awesome Video of one of my Favorite aircraft of all times. THANK YOU for this! BTW: if you've got the money, have I got the aircraft design for you!!! You've never seen this before guaranteed! It fly's like a wet-dream too. Mine is Radio Controlled! Tested/proven and it's not some super lightly wing loaded foamy POS. My Design took inspiration from the Beechcraft Staggerwing but far-far away into the future lol A very Eccentric/modern WTF? Staggerwing design! Cheers: Robert

Yeah, his explanation caught my attention right away. You use fine pitch for takeoff, so you have max power available, and you increase the pitch to achieve a best cruise cruise speed/mp etc.

I thought the same thing. You start with fine pitch at take off and make the prop more course in flight.

I saw a stagger wing land a year ago or so at the Valkaria A/P in Brevard County Fl. It's color was similar to this one and it was clearly well maintained. I wonder if the plane I saw was this one.

Didn't he get it backwards when explaining the constant speed prop with coarse and fine pitch and how to use it?

Some suggestions, if your talking about the instruments, video the instruments. This long into the video we know which person is talking so video what they are talking about .way to much video of the guest, not of the guest of honor! Beautiful plane wish we could of seen more of it in detail.

Coarse pitch for T/O? Really? Flares a nice touch. 17s had no clutch on gear motor...and needed one. Too bad you did not show how to check gear position visually. Also, flap switch placement is perfect, worth a mention. A performance fun fact--T/O over foot obstacle required only 50 more feet at 6000 msl than sea level. 17s did great at altitude.

Recap tires on an airplane sound like a really bad idea. I've seen enough of them on 18 wheelers come apart to know it's not the best practice for tires. And on top of that you are using 50 year old carcasses? Those have to be dry rotted as hell? Sounds great for a static display but a terrible idea to trust them for landings.
