I used Primeape on my RBY playthrough, and he was pretty good. It was mostly because he was overleveled and had a lot of coverage TM/HM moves, but still.

I once tried to make a SS run using only weak Pokémon I wouldn't normally use, so I actually have won a league using Beedrill, Arbok, Meganium and Parasect lol I don't remember the other two

You should really consider using Lord Helix, Kabutops, Primeape, and Pinsir. These Pokemon are too underrated and they can pull through. Pinsir is surprisingly bulky being able to tank at least two super effective physical moves. Omastar can actually be a good sweeping pokemon as well as Kabutops. Primeape is just overall kinda fun he hits really hard and makes me feel op when I have it.

Admittedly, I really like the sponsorship for this one despite the company making the sponsorship. I guess they expanded the things they are able to do? I wonder what's the story behind that sponsorship and getting Death Knight to show up?

I notice that a lot of these are good pokemon...just defensive/stall style. I think Mikey's explanation for Chansey probably applies to many more pokemon, as a result.

I feel you on the "caught a shiny so I used it". The first time I used a tentacruel was in HGSS when I found a shiny tentacool (she was named Violet) and decided she had to come with me for the rest of the game. Same with Clefable in Let's Go when I found a random shiny that I almost didn't realize was shiny.

Tentacruel was amazing because the poison typing makes it neutral to grass and its available in every single region when you get surf

3:44 I choose to argue about Clefable. While it definitely reached its best in Generation 6, I think it actually became viable back in Generation 4, when it gained the Magic Guard ability. Pair that with its toolbox move pool, and you have something that can get you through the game. Plus, it’s easier to catch than Munchlax. Duh. 7:21 But it’s great as a catcher in later games. Clefable was one of my first Pokémon Blue champions. She rocked. I think I used her because I liked the idea of a weird space marshmallow kicking butt. Bubblebeam, Psychic, Hyper Beam, and Sing was quite terrifying back in the day. Clefable has been my weird pink friend ever since 😁

The VERY first time I used Gengar was Sword and Shield because you guessed it trade evolution. It was really fun using him, but I still just don't get that emotional attachment to him or Alakazam that most people have. It's like that with a lot of trade pokemon actually.

Kind of funni how a month later and we got annihilape, a broken evolution of primeape that is amazing for sv playthroughs

I had a Clefable on my first ever playthrough of Pokemon Blue. It was the first mon I got to level 100 and I used to just take it into the Elite Four and use Metronome over and over for my own amusement.

I'm actually pretty sure that you can find Mankey in the route west of Viridian City in Fire Red/Leaf Green. I've used it several times, and it's good.

I think the only reason I've ever willingly used the Pidgey line was because I caught a shiny as my first catchable Pokemon in my first run of Let's Go Eevee. His name is Hermes and I love him.

Ninetails with drought was my choice on a all fire team play through I had. Solarbeam with out having to wait a turn was incredibly helpful. Def worth using in a play through

Kantoian Ninetails is actually pretty decent, I am actually using one in my Pokemon Sword Nuzlocke that I haven't continued for a while, I should continue it, btw the Ninetails' name is Firefox

I used a Vileplume in a Randomised Platinum Nuzlocke, and it was my longest surviving pokemon. It took it from a middling pokemon in my eyes to one of my favourites.

You can get a Mankey before Brock. It's located in the grass heading to Victory road before entering Viridian Forest. It's a low encounter rate in FR/LG but they are there. I've exploited this for Nuzlockes

I repeatedly used Beedrill in Blue/Red playthroughs. One, I thought it was cool. Two, it was the only one to learn actual Bug moves which were effective on Psychic. If I remember correctly. I used him a lot against Sabrina.

Man, my regular Kangaskhan was a major player in my Let's Go Eevee team. It's got so much coverage with the elemental punches and you can get it's mega stone in the indigo plateau (though that may be after you beat them once, can't remember)

Used butterfree for a very very short time but counted it. Used pidgeot for half the play through and half counted it.

I used a Jynx in my Ultra Moon playthrough and actually enjoyed it. It came in handy against Hau's Noivern and I also really liked its wide movepool.

Man butterfree is such an underrated Pokémon. It’s an excellent setup mon getting access to tailwind and sleep powder. And with compound eyes boosting sleep powders accuracy it’s a good Pokémon. I usually run a focus sash

I feel like regarding Dugtrio most people only ever used it to beat Lt. Surge, just walk for a bit on Diglett tunnel until you encounter one, chuck balls at it since you're likely underleveled (Dugtrio was around Lv: 28 at that point I believe) deliver a royal beating with Dugtrio at the Vermilion Gym, toss it into the computer and move on.

I've done a bug and grass monotype run for each game, and to be honest, Parasect is really helpful, the Effect spore ability, spore move, it can learn dig and slash, gotta admit that in a normal team it might not be impressive, but it's one of the best members when doing a kanto or johto grass/bug type monorun

Another great video from Mikey as always. Just a quick note you can find mankey in fire red and leaf green on route 22, and then use it against Brock if you picked charmander. I did that and used it throughout the game. Pretty good mon.

To be fair, Victreebel is actually really useful against Chuck's Poliwrath since it resists both its stab types. I actually kept a Victreebel on my team for about the whole game in my first ever playthrough of Soul Silver, and it did pretty well overall. Side note, I really appreciated how Soul Silver added the pokeathlon dome as a way to get evolution stones before the post game, which helped a ton of pokemon be more viable in playthroughs. In Gold and Silver, you can't get a Leaf, Water, Fire, or Thunder Stone until you're in the Kanto region, which means you can't use Poliwrath, Arcanine, Ninetales, Victreebel, Vileplume, Starmie, Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, or Cloyster for your main playthrough, even all of those pokemon's previous evolutions can be obtained in the Johto region. Also, I have Diamond, but on my first playthrough, I did the whole game without a fire type at all since I picked Turtwig, and I regretted nothing.

In my first silver playthrough I caught a bellsprout not knowing I'd never be able to evolve it into a victreebel. But that thing was a beast. Maybe no johto gym leaders are weak to grass per se, but weepinbell got me through the elite 4 and champion. I don't think she was even especially over leveled. In my next kanto playthrough, I made sure I caught another bellsprout, because if weepinbell was good enough for late game how good was victreebel? Very. It basically carried. Victreebel has been securely my 4th favorite pokemon ever since.

If you've never played with a Vileplume, you should consider it whenever you replay Sword/Shield. It's amazing for the first couple of gyms, and also, its poison type makes it quite good against the fairies that pop up later in the game

I caught an Oddish early on in my Red team and wasn't sure if I would use it the whole time, but decided to keep it around for a bit. It then pretty much solo'd the S.S.Anne since most of the trainers use Water types and Absorb heals it. It evolved into Gloom before I was even done with the ship, so I just went "ok, I guess I'm using a Vileplume on this team". And now Vileplume is one of my favorite Pokemon.

This has encouraged me to do a series of Red and Blue playthroughs where I use every evolutionary line. It should take me 14 playthroughs, plus a run through the Elite Four with Mewtwo.

I used a Ninetails and Kingler in my play through of Eevee and I have to say they were pretty decent Pokémon to use. I’ve been playing Pokémon for almost 20 years, and it’s awesome that even after all that time, I can find new enjoyment using Pokémon I’d usually give a pass to.

You can get mankey before fighting Brock in fire red. It is in the grass patch leading to the indigo league where you also fight your rival for the first time.

My favorite thing about this list is that six-year-old me beat the elite four using pretty much just Primape and Seaking. :) I think I used Pikachu to get through Misty, but beyond that, this is all I used back in the day before I really knew what I was doing. I certainly had no idea what STAB was, but I did understand typing for the most part.

if im being honest, i like using weak pokemon, i get bored just being able to one OKO everything, so i usually only use one or two actually good pokemon. an example is when i played black 2 for the first time, my team was emboar, braviary, ampharos, audino, zoroark, and maractus. this team may not be the best, but thats what was so fun, having struggling battles you barely manage to come out alive. it just gives more exitment to the game.

I will point out that the Mew glitch in Gen 1 is easy as long as you're following the steps correctly, effectively making it a very good team choice since it has a very good typing and can learn any TM move.

I remember watching you and I always thought that team sky was an actual team in the games, so imagine my surprise when I learned that team sky was a thing that you made up.

I am a zookeeper in chicago and I regularly feed the hippos day old sausages so they have a taste of their home. I put strings on the sausages and swing them around the hippos they get so mad at me and scream but it's an obsession sometimes the hippos try and break out of their cages but I keep swinging those hotdogs in wide circles over their heads. Luckily my boss doesn't know I do this or my coworkers....

I would do this, but I'm currently playing each main game in order for the first time, so my pokemon list would be far too long 🤣 currently just beat the first gym in black/white, and this channel has definitely been fun to watch while I play through the games!

In my opinion Beedrill carried me when I was fighting Misty's Starmie because when it hits level 25 or higher it learns a bug type move which is super effective against psychic types and it's also good with Koga with his poison types but it could be challenging when up against the psychic gym since it is also a poison type

Justice is served in playthrough of Scarlet, where he picks Primeape/Annihilape and Toedscruel 💯

A lot of the water types you listed have something to make them unique and good

You take back what you said about Marowak. In LeafGreen I used one with a Thick Club and it basically oneshotted everything that didn't resist Ground or Rock. It's basically Rampardos but with a better typing.

Honestly a bunch of these are fun to use on a playthrough without being the strongest options. I mean in Gen 1 Arbok learns Glare and Wrap which can basically take down anything. In later generations it has useful abilities and a decent movepool. The same can be said for Clefable and Magic Guard is fun to play around with, ignoring weather and other passive damage

I used kingler when I was kid in fire red. Because I thought that crab hammer was a very cool and strong move . And wanted to use a diverse team. So I used it all throughout the game . Often I did think that considering my high attack , why I did less damage. It was only after many 3 or 4 years did I get to know that in that game, all water moves are special , so my attack was of no use. I feel silly when I think about it now .

I certainly have used Vileplume and Victreebell on very recent teams. I did a Poison only run of Sword where Vileplume bodied Nessa twice and wound up beating Raihan in the Champion Tournament, and in Let's Go Eevee Bellsprout was my first pokemon that I caught (and used), I loved its overworld animation as Bellsprout (Weepingbell and Victreebell's were much less interesting) and it wound up have a game-long rivalry with Trace's starter Pikachu. So those 2 are very special to me now.

You have gained me. I am a introvert and messy type. Messy type is the type that can learn a verarge of moves. Introvert type meaning that I'm an introvert. The moves I currently know are: game out, an introvert type move that can inflict a random statice effect on all enamies and boost my attack and special attack by playing a game so hard that it becomes real but all enamies will regain hp, cluter, a messy type move that causes damage to an emimie by throwing cluter at them, shadow ball and dazzling gleam. I'm week to: water, due to it cleaning things up and cleaning people, and bug, cause introverts don't like the outdoors and a mess containg food will attract bugs, type moves. The types that are week to me are: grass, gouhst, electric, ice, dark, poisen.

I didn’t get back into Pokémon until X&Y, but, even then, I didn’t start replaying through games until Sun & Moon - not from lack of wanting to because I still hold the Gen 6 games in very high regard. Pokémon Bank made it easier for me to go about restarting games from then on. Even so, it’d mostly be Pokémon that caught my eye or that I really wanted to play with again, all thanks to breeding. At least once every new game, I try to reform the first teams I used during my first playthrough of one or both versions before going back to play with Pokémon that catch my eye or I just hadn’t used before. I say all of this just to say that there’s still so many Pokémon that I’ve yet to play with, but I’m itching to get back to playing Sword & Shield before the next games come out.

In my first fire red playthrough, Vileplume has been a staple member. I REALLY MEAN IT. It got me throught alot of gyms. This might be surprising, but my Dugtrio got me through all of the Giovanni battles.

Your channel mascot with a Hail form got me thinking about my custom Pokémon region, complete with 120 new 'mons including regional forms and new evolutions for preexisting Pokémon. Of course, the dex isn't finished yet, but I thought maybe I can make an evolution for Castform based on your channel mascot. I call it: CASTSTORM: Normal/Electric Ability: Storm Warning - Works the same as Castform's Forecast ability where its form changes based on weather, featuring a Rain Form (Water/Electric), Sunny Form (Fire/Electric), Hail/Snow Form (Ice/Electric), and now even a Sandstorm Form (Ground/Electric) What's more is that Caststorm comes with two signature moves: Meteorology (name subject to change) and Superstorm. Meteorology is a Normal Type Status move that changes the weather to a random condition, allowing Caststorm to transform whenever it damn well feels like. This may be a bad move, but it could be great. Who knows? Superstorm is guaranteed to be great, however. It's an Electric Type move that, depending on the weather, gains an extra type effectiveness. So not only will it be super effective against Water, but it can also be super effective against Grass, Bug, Ice, Steel, etc during Sunlight; Steel, Poison, Fire, etc in Sandstorms; Grass, Ground, etc during Hail; and Ground, Rock, Fire, etc during Rain. Can I get a "Hail Yeah!"?

Looking at the original 151, I’ve never used the birds, Mewtwo or Mew, Dragonite, or the fossils for a playthrough. Maybe I’ll do an all-Legends playthrough.

Parasect is good for shiny hunting since it can damp as a hidden ability and can learn false swipe. That's like, the only thing though.

I’ve always used Staryu/Starmie in every play through of Kanto 😅 Not only are they my favorite Pokemon but Starmie has great move coverage & good enough stats that in my opinion make it worth it to train even late game. The Pokémon league is so easy with the right moves on Starmie + Calcium

I feel like quite a big reason slowpoke is underused in playthroughs is that slowpoke for some reason has higher attack than spA,while its the reverse for slowbro

I used Arbok in my most recent SoulSilver playthrough. It was better than I was expecting. It was the main reason I was able to defeat Whitney's Miltank more easily than usual!

On Starmie: In Pokémon Red, if you do the "Mew Glitch" on Nugget Bridge with the 1st Swimmer in Misty's Gym, you can save and do the glitch again by teleporting then fighting either the 2nd trainer in her gym or Misty herself (I can't remember which) and then go back to Nugget Bridge for a Staryu encounter. Yes, that's cheesing because you're breaking the game which also gives you a Mew, but it's still *_technically_* a way to have a Staryu/Starmie on your team right as you get Badge #2. Then it only needs level 27 for Recover (if you want it), and evolve since everything else can be taught by TM (Psychic, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, Surf, etc.).

For me on my 1st ever nuzlocke recently which i did on soulsilver, my ilex forest encounter was paras, and i was able to bring it up to final battle with red, though i kinda got lucky multiple times cause of quick claw procs and spore then swords dance xscissor sweep on some stages.

Arbok was decent in gen 1 specifically. It was designed around the move Wrap, and that move was broken back then, especially paired with Glare or Toxic. When they nerfed Wrap in Gen 2, Arbok had basically nothing going for it after that.

It hurts because I like Pidgeot, and it is the starting bird who hasn't used it it's powerful... but yeah that makes sense I guess. I mean it's pretty good early on, even in OG RBGY, but Fearow can be better with moves like drill peck, Pidgeot gets hurricane and heat wave by gen 5, so you could use it and its mega that it gets along the way in PE, same with Beedrill, just suggestions.
