Just going to say it, it's much easier to pack in a carry-on when you're a size 0 influencer and all your clothes are tiny and you're going to a warm climate. Also if all you're doing is walking around and touristy things. If you do any kind of outdoor stuff, or don't wear the smallest clothing, or you need warm clothes, your suitcase will get heavier very quickly.

Actually not that hard, you just have to be mindful of the material of clothing you wear. I stick to light but warm materials like merino wool, cashmere, alpaca, linen, viscose/modal, down, moisture wicking synthetics, typically no cottons unless it's voile fabric. These either don't need to be washed often or are super quick drying. I also wear multi use items and focus on accessories to give my outfits a little something something. All my heavy items I wear to the airport and divest them once I go through checkin.

It’s definitely harder when you’re bigger but it can be done. I’m a size 24 and did 2 weeks in Spain last November carryon only. It did involve either washing/febreezing and rewearing some items (though not as many as you’d think, I managed to fit 10 tops, 4 bottoms, 3 bras and a weeks worth of socks and panties into one side of my Beis carryon). If I had decided not to bring an extra pair of shoes and less makeup or if I had gone to the max with my personal item instead of just bringing a large purse, I might have been able squeeze in enough extra clothes to have avoided most of my rewearing. Lauren from the channel It’s the Kellys is a size 18 and travels exclusively out of a carryon, even when she travels to cold destinations. Her packing videos are great to get ideas on how to pack light as a plus sized woman. That said, I’m much less concerned about weight as I tend to fly a US airline to Europe and then take the train once I’m there so that does make it easier. I also travel with minimal tech. The most I bring with me is an iPad, but honestly I’ve started questioning the wisdom of even bringing that when I spend way more time with my phone.

The climate you’re traveling to makes the biggest difference. If your packing shorts and tanks, no matter what your size, it’s going to take up less room that sweaters as and scarves. When I travelled to Europe this fall, I had such a hard time finding packing videos for cooler weather. They all packing for warm times of the year and tropical destinations.

I live in Europe and fly carry-on only all the time with airlines that have a 7kg weight limit. I don't think they have ever weighed my bag. I have, however, had it weighed in the US and Asia. I usually take the largest possible personal item and try to put my heaviest items in it because they rarely weigh that. But, I think the real "key" is to ACT like your bag is light. When you handle it or pick it up, pretend like it weighs nothing. Sometimes I will throw it around a bit in front of the people who look at the bags to make it look lighter than it is. Works every time for me because it is almost always overweight (sometimes significantly).

We've been there during our 1-bag-carry on-only journey. My longest (6weeks) travel in 11 countries and 9 flights with 5 airlines, so I had to fly with the requirements from the airline with the smallest size and lowest allowance. So many people have already given great tips. For me, I would add that i had a breakthrough when I listed the packed items with their weight (a spreadsheet). The spreadsheet was initially slow to compile, but it's been the most useful (for me) first thing I do when packing. In the spreadsheet I highlight the most valuable items, and then I go through a process of elimination untill I get to the needed weight. It takes the 'emotion' out of packing for me. I've been traveling for 10 years with 1 bag only (with some exceptions) and it is a stress free way to travel. Good luck in your journey! We all have different needs when we travel!

@NewtonMAmom

I do the same - the spreadsheet really helps. I'm going to Paris for 8 days next week and only using an under the seat bag - this includes my 5 lb CPAP machine in it because I'm rooming with someone not my husband. Layering is key and wearing the heaviest items on the plane. I bring laundry sheets and wash underwear every few days. Merino wool socks can go 10 times without washing. I just bring 2 pairs and wear my compression socks. If I'm over weight, I put a few small heavy items in my coat pocket (like external battery, toiletries, or kindle, etc) and later just put it into my bag. I do a dry run at home using my travel toiletries and only take 2 more days worth of toiletries at the most. I bought assorted lightweight containers from Amazon (they have held up well). Even for my leave in conditioner that I need only a pea size amount, I just squeeze a little in a snack sized zip lock bag. every ounce counts. I've done 6+ weeks in Europe with only a regular sized carry on back pack and no personal item (stuffed in the backpack for later use). As an older plus size woman, I normally keep my backpacks to less than 15 lbs.

I would cut jeans, fleece lined pants, and thick chunky sweaters. Take up too much space and weight. Replace with thinner options made from a merino wool for warmth and less weight or thinner materials with base layers underneath (like heattech from Uniqlo) Add down jacket, coat, or vest they weight nothing but are so warm. For shoes it will change your aesthetic, but swap out leather sneakers for lightweight trainers. I had some tree runners from allbirds that were so light, but you can any light running shoe.

It just isn't fun travelling if you have to wear the same clothes over and over. I don't mind doing laundry but I have encountered a lack of laundry facilities where there was supposed to be some, malfunctioning machines (a dryer that did not dry anything), etc. I would add my endorsement to the laundry strips. Light as a feather and they do work. PS you did not mention undergarments!! I hope there was room for them! LOL

This was such a wonderful and SUCCESSFUL packing video! It was great to see your process. It was great you showing all your considerations and all the pivoting you had to do to make it work. Even your frustrated cursing was great to see :-) I agree that the weight of the bag itself and the other smaller bags is the number one consideration. I just did 2 weeks in Europe with a backpack and I'll never go back. Traveling lighter is now an obsession. My tips are: 1. Bare minimum toiletries in the lightest weight containers (I'm talking ziploc bag light) Anything you can buy at your destination, like sunscreen and soap, just do that instead. 2. Lightweight shoes (I had two pairs in my backpack but they were very light) 3. Maximize that personal item (which you did, but I was waiting the whole video for you to get to it, lol) 4. Minimize the tech (you don't travel to be on your computer for hours, ditch the extra one. Same goes for extra tablets, chargers, smart devices, etc.) 5. Don't pack ANY just-in-case items. If it's not likely to come up, it's not worth bringing. And if you need it, it should be easy to find at your destination. 6. Laundry strips for sink laundry. Washing up undies, socks and undershirts in the sink was an absolute game-changer! Bring a small clothesline to airdry and you're golden! Happy travels!

What she does is goes into the bathroom and puts everything on, no joke. After she gets weighed, she will go back and remove everything and repack it in her backpack. She only travels with a tiny backpack and even carries a pillow. Btw, pillows dont count as luggage, so alot of people will stuff a pillow case with clothes. Also, hiding a smaller backpack on your front or a larger fanny pack under an over size hoodie i have seen done as well.

Yes! I watched so many “packing light” videos before my trip to the south of France this past June, and pretty much all of them used bags that far exceeded size and weight restrictions for European airlines. The personal bag allowance for my carrier (Lufthansa) was 11.8” x. 15.7” x 3.9” (no weight was stated) and carry on’s were limited to 21.6” x 15.7” x 9” and 17.6 pounds. Right off the bat, none of my many carry on rolling suitcases (including the one I used on my previous flight to France on United a few years ago) met the size requirements. So I ended up buying a smaller roller carry on. And like you, I hit the weight limit packing just 2/3rds full with just clothes and one pair of shoes. But all the videos I watched to prepare for my trip had people packing huge carry ones and ginormous personal item bags. Some of the personal item bags even exceeded the carry on size dimensions for European airlines. And I am very glad I bought one of those luggage scales, because the Lufthansa check in agent weighed it at a check in, and I was under the limit.
@lokicooper4690
@lokicooper4690 4 ай бұрын
I’m convinced the reason they limit the weight is to force many people to check their bag(s). The size limit is obvious (those overhead bins are only so big), but weight feels like a money grab when other airlines have no problems with heavier bags. I feel you on your frustration. I know just how you feel. I’m going on a cruise to Iceland and Norway next year (yep, booked last May!). It will be my first time outside Canada and the US since 1991. 😮

Weight is a safety limit mostly - bags shouldn't be so heavy that flight attendants/the average person can't safely lift above their head. And there's a risk of bags falling out and hurting people in extreme turbulence. Weight on the plane also adds to fuel requirements, though that applies everywhere not just cabin bags.

In Australia, we've always had to deal with weight restrictions whether we're travelling domestically or internationally, the majority being a 7 kg weight limit. The key is taking a leaf from the ultralight hiking community, primarily cutting weight from your one heaviest item, your bag. I use an ultralight hiking backpack which has a 40 litre volume and weighs 800 gms (the Durston Kakwa) bonus it's also a thousand times more comfortable to carry than actual travel backpacks. If I'm using a suitcase, it will be a Samsonite (c-lite or the 72 hr range) which has the lightest rolling luggage on the market at 1.2 kgs. They can be pricey but because I travel a lot, it's worth the investment for my convenience and peace of mind. Also taking a leaf from the ultralight hiking community, I wear mostly merino clothing items on the layers closest to my skin. Merino doesn't absorb odours so I don't need to bring as many clothes. Still with the ultralight mindset, I use ziplock bags for my organisation, so make up in one, toiletries in the other, tech in another. Speaking of toiletries, I decant all my liquids for my skincare into 30 ml bottles and my creams into a contact lens container, I find 30 mls is more than enough for up to a months travel for each step of my skincare routine. Hair care and body wash are usually provided by my accommodation so I never pack those in, or I buy at my destination. For make-up, I use products that are multi purpose, ie. Lipsticks that I can use as blush, using a concealer as my foundation (travel size Tarte Shape Tape), a quad eyeshadow that has a shade that I can use as an eye liner, etc. If I have to bring technology, I ditched the lap top and use a small tablet instead. However these days, my phone is more than enough for my needs. But I am a leisure traveller, not a work traveller. I also use the Nitecore power bank which is one of the lightest in the market. Other things I bring to shave off weight, a single use plastic water bottle (typically Smart 1ltr bottle which I can use for months before I throw it out) instead of a dedicated water bottle. Uniqlo nylon cross body bags, super capacious and ultralight, nylon folding walletc(I'm a fan of the nylon bill folds from Muji) instead of large bulky leather wallets. A compact shopping bag/tote so I can separate some stuff that I need with me on the flight once I go through security instead of having to go to the overhead bins all the time to retrieve stuff. I also use it to hang my toiletries where I need to when using the bathrooms. Ear buds instead of over ear headphones. Ultralight hiking umbrella instead of a regular one. I wear all my heaviest clothing items at the airport until I get through either the check-in counter or in the case of if I'm travelling with Jetstar who weigh carry-on at the boarding gate, until after I board. Typically clothing wise, I pack one merino tshirt, chambray or white merini shirt and a merino vest/singlet which the latter is also my sleeping pyjamas or a thermal insulating layer. One or two mid layers depending on the climate, either a down vest, knitted vest or a merino/cashmere/alpaca sweater or a cardigan. One dress that can also be used as a skirt layered under my top and can be dressed up or down. 2 or 3 pair of pants ie. Merino joggers/leggings which I can also wear as pj bottoms or in the case of leggings, an insulating layer under my other pants/dress/skirt, 1 pair of jeans (sometimes) and one smarter looking pants, either in wool or linen depending on the season. For the top layer Two jackets/coats, wearing the heaviest on the plane. 5 days worth of underwear in modal fabric which is superlight and quick drying, 2-3 pair of merino socks, one of which are compression socks. One merino bike shorts, which I use for anti chub rub or as pj bottoms. Two pairs of shoes which vary depending on climate. One giant cashmere or wool scarf which doubles as a blanket or if I'm travelling to warmer climates, I bring a sarong instead which has a million uses. Because I'm so minimal with my clothing choices, it's the accessories I bring which change up my looks. Accessories typically don't weigh as much as clothing items.

So true. If I can leave behind PJs I will. Bike shorts have become my short replacements - infinitely lighter than denim shorts but also other shorts. I've become a fan of tunic dresses and shirt dresses for extreme versatility - layering potential increases exponentially. Oh and instead of packing cubes I've taken to using good quality delicates bags. Can still get some compression happening, still organisational AND you have some delicates bags if you have access to a washing machine at any point on the trip. It's a win

Here in Asia the carry-on weight limit is often 7kg (15.4 lbs) per person. It's hard to pack within that! I can pack my backpack with tech, toiletries, and other essentials at 7kg. But then I need a separate bag for clothes. The only way I can make it work is by taking my toddler's weight allotment. 🌸Heidi

@FlirtingWithTravel
@FlirtingWithTravel 4 ай бұрын
I’ve had it happen at different times. Flying Emirates out of EWR they weighed at the ticket counter (I couldn’t get a mobile boarding pass). Out of JFK on Swiss Air, the weighed at the ticket counter. On Air France in Paris they weighed my bag in the line for security. And extra fun, Air France uses a combined weight of carry on and personal item so there’s no shifting things around to sneak extra weight in bags.

This video is extremely helpful as everything has changed. I remember I didn’t have to deal with weight. I also could travel with full size products if I wanted to. I use ziplock bags for my toiletries & power cords/phone chargers … Wear your heaviest clothes/shoes on the plane, only pack as light as possible (ballerina flats, light sandals, light work out T-shirts, light travel pants …). My son & I, we had passed the 7kg limit baggage when we used Air Asia from Kuala Lumpur to Vietnam. They actually weighted our luggage right at the plane entrance! Since I always get cold on the plane, I wear layers of clothes (1 tank & 1 T-shirt underneath my hoodie, 1 capri leggings under my pants + 1 heavy jacket/coat, thick socks & heaviest shoes - voilà, at destination you can re-use those extra layers of clothes …).

Yeah, been there, done that. I have been weighed on every flight to Europe, Africa and usually to South America. I have never been to Asia, so I can’t speak there. It is hard AF to pack only in a carry on for a trip this length without going overweight, especially in the winter. I think you did a fantastic job! I love all your tips and I love that this was a process video that showed your logic for how you made choices. My travel is a smidge easier because I wouldn’t have taken a laptop at all; however, I do travel with an iPad Pro and a hotspot from Solis, which is no lightweight. I also use one charging block that works for several different devices from Anker; I rotate items for charging over a couple of hours if I need to. If I have enough weight allowance, I take the one that actually has a battery pack inside of it, too. I always buy shampoo/conditioner when I get in country (I have very long hair but find the hotel size is enough to get me by in a pinch until I can buy a bigger bottle). I love going into grocery stores and pharmacies in other countries, so this is a fun excuse to head into them. Another tip that I think was embedded but wasn’t said out loud what only bringing 1 bra and about 3-4 pairs of underwear. If you have a bit of powdered soap or a cut up laundry sheet, you can wash these in your hotel sink and dry them over night. Since menstrual cups have hit the market, they are a complete game changer for travel! I started using one in 1999 and never looked back (thankfully, I am now past the need…). I agree wholeheartedly on travel small, pack smart. Scarves are awesome accessories. Don’t forget silk scarves and cashmere either… they both can be surprisingly warm as well as incredibly lightweight. I also encourage bringing a super lightweight foldable backpack or duffel. Yes, you can use this on the trip, but I typically have it for the return trip home. I check my main bag then because I don’t need to worry as much about it arriving on time, but I can still use the lightweight backpack for my carryon on the plane ride back for my electronics and gifts that I might have purchased while traveling. Thanks for such a wonderful, informative video.

I’ve traveled several times with just a backpack. In my experience, they never weigh your backpack. I think as long as it’s not a massive bag, they don’t even bother. You have the right idea of using the tote bag for a personal item. I have a large cotton tote that I use that holds a ton but looks chill. Leaves room for souvenirs!

I steer clear of the hardside suitcases when carrying on as they typically are heavier than if you got a fabric/softside. Also I find it gives more when packing. I would purchase some of the items when I get to my destination such a laundry soap, toothpaste deodorant etc . I stick with a neutral color black, navy or tan/beige then i can mix/max with less items and a pop of color or accessories. Keep the scarfs, green sweater over the black sweater. I would have worn one of the scarfs on the plane. A crossbody bag over a tote I think it would be easier to manage/travel with a having to also carry the big backpack.
@missmayflower
@missmayflower 4 ай бұрын
My hard side is way lighter than any fabric suitcase. The fact that the fabric gives tempts you to pack overweight. I avoid compression packing cubes for the same reason. A small daypack for personal item allows you to be hands free and stays on your shoulders unlike an awkward tote bag.

You are forgetting the biggest hack. Get a coat with big, zipped pockets - put your heaviest things in there. Wear your heaviest/bulkiest items and multiple layer them. You are just going thru the security part; you can repack your bags once past security. Bring silky thin blouses (packs small and dries quickly for handwashing) Also, skip the bulky knitted sweaters/hat and get a fashionable microfleece for the layering layer.

Look at ultralight hiking backpacks. Especially the ones with a frame and hip belt. My recommendation for travel is the Durston Kakwa 40l in small which fits all carryon size restrictions and weighs 800 grams. These style backpack distributes the weight to your hips instead of shoulders only so things feel lighter when in reality it's not. If you really want to go the cabin suitcase route, samsonite has the lightest on the market with the 72 hour models and the c-lite ones. Also look into bringing a utility jacket. These typically have lots of pockets, so you can put a lot of stuff in them which you wear until you get past checkin.

One tip for toiletries for space and weight, is for my facial cleansers and liquids. I usually put those cotton rounds in a ziplock bag and then lightly soak those with the cleanser. zip the bag and throw it in. They will stay moist for 7-10 days. I also go to the make up and perfume counters and ask for samples.

Hi! Stumbled upon your video when I’m packing too - I travel several times by plane for work & leisure within Europe. There’s an option of paying a bit extra for heavier cabin bag (max 12kg on average) when you’re checking in online for your flight. The price varies per airline I think, but I remember EasyJet charged 14.99€. I do that mostly only when I travel for work, because I need my laptop with me. This may be an option if tech gear is a must?

I’m a U.S. size 10-12 and I pack for about 2-3 weeks in my 40L backpack. I wear my thicker shoes or boots on the flight and pack one lighter pair of shoes. In the winter I wear into the plane my heavy leather jacket, my hoodie, and my scarf because it gets so cold on the plan anyway so that does make space in the bag. I’ll wear my thicker jeans or leggings on the plane and pack a lighter jean and extra leggings in the bag. I will say I have curly hair so that is one product I bring extra of, but I really use very squishy containers for the few toiletries I have. I don’t buy the “travel size” products because the containers are weird shaped and don’t compress well. The ones I’m using I got on Amazon and have been on many trips. I take minimal makeup too. I don’t do too much editing but I use my iPad Pro or just my iPhone pro to save space. Normally I have my personal item too but just use a small crossbody to go because some flights only let you have the one bag. But on the way home this summer I used my large Le Pliage bag that I keep packed in my backpack for any souvenirs I bring or if the bag is a bit heavy so I don’t need to check the bag on my return 😅.

1 pair of socks? And I guess 1 bra too? Underwear? With your toiletries you're putting a bag in a bag which just adds weight. Just use ziplocs. I'm an adamant carry-on only traveler and I even managed to take a 3 week expedition cruise to Antarctica with only a carry-on and personal item. I flew Aerolinas Argentinas so I had a 22 lb. limit for the carry-on and about 6.5 for the personal item. Now keep in mind I had to bring insulated and waterproof snow clothing. I was able to stick to the weight limit by using the REI packable duffle in the 50 liter size (it's discontinued, but you can just under pack the 60 liter or they also offer a 40 liter...the 50 liter was just max carry-on dimensions when fully packed). It only weighs 9 ounces when empty! The replacements I mentioned each weigh about 1 lb. I won't go into my slightly overweight personal item as they let it slide which was great since I needed a heavy duty waterproof pack since it was going on wet zodiac rides and getting set in the snow a lot. I was able to fit 4 very packed medium Eagle Creek spectre compression packing cubes into the 50 liter REI bag. I even brought an extra of the 50 liter bags to check coming home (believe it or not there's a gift shop in Antarctica at Port Lockroy and I spent generously!). Now full disclosure, carrying a flimsy 22lb duffel bag on my shoulder wasn't pleasant, but it did allow me to be certain I wouldn't have to check my bag. Also, for long trips I usually just buy toiletries when I get there and dispose of them before I leave.

I did 4 weeks in Europe a year ago in the winter and we did carry on only. I am a size Large/14. Not a size 0. It did require a lot of planning. The first step is to find out the size and weight requirements for both your personal item and your carry-on. You need this info for each airline you are flying on. You will need a luggage scale (they are inexpensive) and an Oxo kitchen scale. The importance of lightweight, but warm layering cannot be overstated! I used an Oxo kitchen scale to weigh each item I was thinking about bringing and lined up, by weight each top, each bottom, each layering piece, each pair of shoes, etc. I selected each type of item based on weight and versatility. We mapped out where the laundromats were at each location, and picked hotels somewhat based on them being walkable to a good laundromat. We did laundry about once a week. We also used a dry bag and a super thin lightweight clothesline for hand washing socks, underwear more regularly. Also, don’t bring your own shampoo, etc. Use what is provided by hotels, and/or buy certain items when you get there. Visited 7 cities in 3 countries. Best vacation ever.

I travelled to London and Paris for 10 days in Christmas, only carried a carry on bag and backpack. It was totally doable as long as you pack only necessary stuff. I did a laundry though one time in the hotel. Carried 2 pairs of shoes, 1 winter coat, no laptop. Brought lightest 3 long sleeve tops, a pair of black jeans, 2 pairs of warm leggings , 2 sweaters so I can mix match and layers for different looks. I am not a PJ person, I do tank tops to sleep. No make up, only moisturizer, lipstick to use also as blush. Of course toothpaste, toothbrush ( you can ask for these at the hotel as complimentary) if you opt not to bring them. Chargers, cellphone, and adapter. Packing in summer will be better and less weight.

This has been my gripe since I fly budget airlines and they tend to be stricter with weight! As you said, what's the point if we only bring the absolute BARE necessities and don't even have fun?! Which not gonna lie, I'm a high-maintenance girlie so bare my minimum is probably a lot too haha. Thank you for actually WEIGHING your suitcase, none of the other videos do this!! Fitting everything into a cabin suitcase isn't the problem, the problem is that the suitcase itself weighs a third to a half of the maximum cabin weight, so you really don't have much room for anything else, especially if you need to take your tech with you! Great video!

I know I'm commenting late, but my top tip is: Buy a stuffed neck pillow with a zipper (not the inflatable kind). Then before a flight, I take the fluff out and re-stuff it with tank tops, yoga pants, whatever can get crumpled up. I have managed to cram 2 leggings, 3 tops, and a couple pairs of thin socks that way. I roll through security with the neck pillow hanging off my purse or on my neck and have never been questioned about it. Have even made it through those small budget airlines with their ridiculously tiny weight limits and had zero problems.

If you are planning on minimalist travel, the things you bring have to be light, including the bag. It also means that the focus is not on the things you bring, it will be what you do. My Tom Bihn Tri star bag is just over 3lbs and is all I ever need for travel. It is just about small enough to qualify as a personal item. My wife and I traveled with that, a carry on ebag and personal item backpack for 3 weeks in Europe with our 15 month old (which meant the ebag was mostly diapers) and it was easy. It was October so we needed warm jackets so all we used was packable down jackets, a couple pants, a few shirts, minimal tech. Yes, we did laundry a couple times. We wanted to stay minimal to make it easy to get around, especially with the toddler. (Also, you might want to forget some things and get a couple souvenirs to use instead.) If you are bringing two laptops and extra scarves, two sweaters, and non-lightweight clothes, you will not be doing minimalist travel. And that is perfectly ok. Minimalist travel is not for everyone and if you want to bring more things, than that is what you should do. The one key is also pack a change of clothes in your carry on if you have to check in a bag, just in case. If you need to bring more things or like some heavier items to enjoy your trip then enjoy your trip. Travel should first and foremost be fun.

Glad to find your video especially as I am from Australia and our carry on limits are only 7 kgs. I always got confused watching all the other videos that put so much into a carry on, which I cant do for my Europe trip due to the weight restriction

7kg!?! What can you carry with that little , a tshirt, chapstick, and a winning smile? 😂

Traveling to and from AU is how I learned to pack light. I now wear multiple items like 2 sweaters and a jacket if I'm going somewhere cold and put a pillow case in my carry-on. Bam I have a travel pillow for the flight :-D.

Trictio s I. South Africa. Even if u got the space u can't carry so much. I traveled to Canada and USA, no bags were weighed there. You cannot believe the size of the carry on luggage u come across.

This is brilliant. As a New Zealander who would be limited to 7kgs (although all our flights to Europe come with a generous checked bag allowance), this is the most realistic packing video I've ever seen. I'd still ditch the second scarf though. But we'll done!

Loved your video. Thanks for showing the true process with the Tetris organizing and the multiple weighing and bag changes. I’m currently packing my carry on a few days early for a family trip to Paris. Will definitely remove items each day as I get closer to departure date. Considering using my travel t-shirt and leggings as my pjs. Will also break out the scale. ❤

All depends on the climate I'm going to, going to Colombia in a few weeks and use a 40L osprey backpack and a Filson drybag messenger bag, in the backpack - 4 pairs of pants, 3 shorts, 6 pairs underwear/socks, 5 shirts, 2 pair of shoes, toiletries and medications. Weighs 16lbs. Messenger bag has headphones, documents, cables, and camera, another pair of undergarments for emergencies, umbrella, and room for a couple small souvenirs or something. But i use technical fabrics i.e. hiking clothes, as much as possible which really helps.

I honestly never thought about my lip gloss or eyeliner being a liquid. I'm so glad nobody's ever said anything.

2 additional suggestions - 1. All the liquid makeup needs to go into your liquids bag as well. You might get lucky sometimes with the odd lip gloss, but many times you won't. Save yourself the trouble. 2. Umbrellas can be useless in some situations. If its crowded or windy, it won't be work. A packable raincoat or even an emergency poncho works better.

Don' know if anyonecsuggested it but laundry sheets instead of liquid. Also I agree with down jacket/vest- so light and "squishable".

Mine was never weighed. They laughed because I stood two feet away and tossed my bag into their carry size thingy and it cleared by an inch on each side! We all laughed as I totally expected to miss, I grabbed it and after all that they said uh you’re in the last boarding group can we gate check it? They promised it would be in the hall as I exited the plane. I pulled my tiny Bagalini travel bag out, took out the emergency one day clothes I’d separated into a ziplock just in case, meds and chargers. Closed it, took a photo of the guy with the bag and the identification on it. It was in the hallway when I arrived from Berlin to New York!
