I think it really is exactly what people thought of from this album at first. Like people needed an another Kanye album after the "masterpiece" that was MBDTF, but a lot of people didn't want Kanye to do what he did on Yeezus and I definetly think Kanye was aware of that. It was on the first song of the album too so to me it just makes me feel like he was straight up telling everybody that it may not what they would want
@future3438
@future3438 3 жыл бұрын
it's also his best album opener of all time. Yeezus is the complete opposite of MBDTF which is his most maximalistic work. The first second of On Sight removes any previous expectations regarding the album with abrasive synthesizers that leaves the listener dumbfounded. Imo the way the sample was used was genius to me. Kanye is doing less to achieve more in this album which is the reason why some of the samples aren't tweaked as much as MBDTF.

Def my fav Kanye album. Only album of his that I actually really loved. Not bc it was "ahead if it's time" or "experimental", I didn't think it was any of those things (okay, for a hip hop album from a mainstream artist, yeah it was experimental, but not really forward thinking or experimental to anyone who listens to "underground/indie" hip hop). I did love that he was taking less commercial, more experimental sounds, and thrusting them into the mainstream, however. That he was able to take a lot of atonal and abrasive instrumentation and sampling, and make a hit record, really pleased me. That said, I've always wondered where it would be if not a Kanye album. Would it have gotten a lot more love from some factions if not Kanye? I think, yes. Would it have been hated by the mainstream, never gone anywhere, been merely an indie/underground hip hop classic, or possibly even just gone nowhere, if not a Kanye album? Well, I really think all of those things are possible, though I'd like to think the later of those wouldn't be the case (could have been, though). Yeezus was a Kanye record, though, so all that speculation is irrelevant, if not interesting. Nobody should be surprised, given it's brave-for-mainstream sound, that it had so many haters, but in my irrelevant opinion, it was his greatest, even edging out his other brilliant (brace-for-mainstream) record, MBDTF. Anyway, thanks for the vid, as always dude. I love getting these OG tracks. Great music!

Types of people that tend to hate on the Yeezus album 1. Kanye fans who couldn't handle him doing something different. 2. Death Grips/Industrial music elitists who are butt-hurt that a "mainstream" artist like Kanye was able to take the underground gritty industrial sound put a poppy accessible twist on it and get a tone of critical acclaim 3. Dudes that just parrot whatever Theneedledrops opinions are. "its basically deathgrips even though only 2 of the 10 tracks sound remotely like them" headasses.

Those are both amazing seminal albums but as experimental as they are they still very much have a boombap feel, I'm talking more so along the lines of Experimental elitists who say YEEZUS is not REEL experimental Hip Hop yet jack off to Run the jewels and Clpping and claim your out of the loop for thinking differently.
@Lilithsdaughter18

LOL U clearly didnt read my comment properly I was talking about the Type of people who spew elitist views regarding YEEZUS never usually bring up experimental albums with boombap influences from the 80s and 90s like Delton, Pauls boutique or even company flow (All experimental classics not denying that) its usually Fantano heads that say shit like "clpping and Run the jewels is how U make Reel Induswuol Hip Hap not like YEEZUS" . Thats what I was alluding to. P.S Completely unrelated but IMO Run The Jewels is overrated beyond words I mean Killer Mike and El P are bonafied Legends individually but as a collective not so much.
@Lilithsdaughter18
@Lilithsdaughter18 7 жыл бұрын

Yeezus is so underrated. Top 3 ye albums in my opinion. Everything about it is mind blowing. No artist today would be fearless enough to create a album like this while being on top of the world. This album represents being free creatively and being fearless while still sounding like it could come out tomorrow.

I don't even mind this album. I like tracks like "Black Skinhead" "New Slaves" and "Bound 2". This album gets too much hate. I think it's better than 808s and Heartbreak by Far.

The I Am A God Jamaican sample is by far my most favorite of Kanye’s. Every time I hear it, I’m just in awe. The way he elevated a little-known club vocal into something so massive, so cerebral, and almost transcendent, it’s so hard to describe the sheer depth and beauty of this song. It’s breathtaking, and it shows just how true it is that Kanye is a creative genius

I had always been a fan of rock and metal music especially industrial rock like Nine inch Nails so I immediately loved Yeezus. Come to think about it, it was kinda dumb that a whole lot of Ye fans thought he would do a MBDTF 2 and I'm here like "why the heck did u expect Ye to do the same sound again?? He's always evolving so don't expect him to do the same album twice in a row"

It’s sad that there are some people only look surface deep into some music. I don’t think the album was ever meant to hit the ears softly and attract major attention. This album was meant to be rough, energetic, emotional and provocative. This album is the contrast of albums like college dropout, it kinda shows we all have a sinful side and that life is wild and unpredictable, like the sound of the album. That’s album taught me that we all interpret the world differently. We have to be open minded and really listen to the music even if it doesn’t sound traditional or we may not understand what is being said at the moment. Some music starts to make more sense over time with life experience and that is the kind of music I love.
